O-GlcNAcylation of progranulin promotes hepatocellular carcinoma proliferation.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

January 2025

Institute of Laboratory Medicine, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Diagnostics, School of Medical Technology, The First Dongguan Affiliated Hospital, Dongguan Key Laboratory of Environmental Medicine, Guangdong Medical University, Dongguan, 523000, China. Electronic address:

Progranulin (PGRN) is overexpressed and implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development; however, its post-translational modifications and regulatory mechanisms in HCC remain largely unexplored. Here, the expression levels of PGRN, OGT, and O-GlcNAcylation were found to be elevated in both HCC samples and cell lines. LC-MS/MS analysis and immunoprecipitation revealed that PGRN underwent O-linked N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) modification at threonine 272 (Thr272).

Numerous studies have substantiated the pivotal role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and the prognosis of afflicted patients. Notably, individuals with NSCLC may exhibit heightened vulnerability to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), resulting in a more unfavorable prognosis subsequent to infection. Nevertheless, the impact of COVID-19-related lncRNAs on NSCLC remains unexplored.

The risk difference (RD) between the secondary infection, given the primary infection, and the primary infection can be a useful measure of the change in the infection rates of the primary infection and the secondary infection. It plays an important role in pharmacology and epidemiology. The method of variance estimate recovery (MOVER) is used to construct confidence intervals (CIs) for the RD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the communication between plasma and immune cells during sepsis, aiming to identify biomarkers linked to organ dysfunction and patient prognosis.
  • Researchers isolated PMN-derived EVs from septic shock patients and healthy controls, conducting miRNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis to identify significant differences.
  • Findings revealed specific miRNAs and PMN-related proteins that could serve as biomarkers for sepsis-related organ dysfunction, and the study identified potential prognostic predictors while also highlighting how plasma-EVs impact neutrophil autophagy.

Novel insights into Cntnap4 in Alzheimer's disease: Intestinal flora interaction.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Guangzhou Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Guangzhou 514000, China. Electronic address:

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with unclear etiology. This study employs single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), high-throughput transcriptome sequencing, 16s rRNA sequencing, and animal experiments to investigate the role of the contactin-associated protein like-4 (Cntnap4) gene in AD and its interaction with intestinal flora. We found that Cntnap4 deficiency in AD mice led to increased Tau protein phosphorylation, amyloid-beta plaque accumulation, and neuronal loss.

Relevance of peripheral inflammation indexes in different collateral circulation for intracranial hemorrhage in acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke patients undergoing endovascular treatment.

J Stroke Cerebrovasc Dis

December 2024

1(st) school of clinical medicine, Southern Medical University, China; Stroke center and Department of Neurology, 10(th) Affiliate Hospital of Southern Medical University, China; Guangdong Medical University, China. Electronic address:

Background: Asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) is common after endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). Collateral circulation could modify the association between aICH with functional outcome and we aimed to investigate the impact of systemic inflammation index on 3-month outcome under different collateral circulation.

Method: Consecutive patients undertaken EVT were enrolled and classified into non-intracranial hemorrhage (non-ICH), aICH and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) groups according to the neurological status and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) changes within 72 hours after EVT.
