The precise mechanisms underlying the inhibitory effects of SIRT3, a mitochondrial sirtuin protein, on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development, as well as its impact on mitochondrial respiration, remain poorly understood. We assessed sirtuins 3 (SIRT3) levels in HCC tissues and Huh7 cells cultured under hypoxic condition. We investigated the effects of SIRT3 on cell proliferation, glycolytic metabolism, mitochondrial respiration, mitophagy, and mitochondrial biogenesis in Huh7 cells.

The use of the white-light thoracoscopy is hampered by the low contrast between oncologic margins and surrounding normal parenchyma. As a result, many patients with in situ or micro-infiltrating adenocarcinoma have to undergo lobectomy due to a lack of tactile and visual feedback in the resection of solitary pulmonary nodules. Near-infrared (NIR) guided indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging technique has been widely investigated due to its unique capability in addressing the current challenges; however, there is no special consensus on the evidence and recommendations for its preoperative and intraoperative applications.

Lung adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is an uncommon histological subtype. We aimed to characterize the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in lung ASC and estimate patient response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), which have never been systematically investigated. In cohort I, we collected 30 ASCs from a single center for analysis of TIME characteristics, including immuno-phenotyping, tumor mutation burden (TMB), T-cell receptor (TCR) repertoires, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), and immune checkpoint expression.

Background: Electronic media use (EMU) becomes one of the most common activities in adolescents. The present study investigated the deleterious influence of excessive EMU and EMU before bedtime on social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties (SEBD) in adolescents. The role of sleep and circadian problems in mediating the association of EMU with SEBD was examined.

Introduction: For NSCLC patients with complete resection, the prognostic role of EGFR mutation for recurrence, especially for CNS metastasis, is still controversial. In this study, we aimed to identify the characteristics of the recurrence pattern of lung adenocarcinoma based on EGFR mutation status.
Methods: Overall, 888 patients with completely surgically resected LUAD who underwent EGFR mutation status analysis from two Chinese institutions were included.

Purpose: Surgical site infection (SSI) frequently occurs in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) after tumor resection and can lead to death in severe cases. Moreover, there is no definitive conclusion about the risk factors of SSI. Therefore, it is of great clinical significance to study the factors affecting the SSI.

Optic neuropathies are leading causes of irreversible visual impairment and blindness, currently affecting more than 100 million people worldwide. Glaucoma is a group of optic neuropathies attributed to progressive degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). We have previously demonstrated an increase in survival of RGCs by the activation of macrophages, whereas the inhibition of macrophages was involved in the alleviation on endotoxin-induced inflammation by antagonist of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH).

Background: Maintenance therapy is important in the management of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The present TFINE study assessed the efficacy and safety of docetaxel continuation maintenance (DCM) therapy after first-line treatment with different doses of docetaxel plus cisplatin.
Methods: In this open-label, randomized, phase III study, newly diagnosed patients with advanced NSCLC were initially randomized (R1, 1:1) to receive first-line treatment with cisplatin 75 mg/m plus docetaxel 75 mg/m (DC75) or 60 mg/m (DC60) for up to 4 cycles.

Objectives: Pulmonary arterial hypertension symptoms in systemic lupus erythematosus patients are non-specific and early diagnosis and intervention are challenging. It remains essential to explore risk factors for pulmonary arterial hypertension in systemic lupus erythematosus patients to identify high risk patients and allow intensive monitoring.
Methods: From January 2010 to December 2018, 84 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and pulmonary arterial hypertension and 160 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus but without pulmonary arterial hypertension were enrolled.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the novel biomarkers for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) responses in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by integrating genomic profiling, tumor mutational burden (TMB), and expression of programmed death receptor 1 ligand (PD-L1).
Materials And Methods: Tumor and blood samples from 637 Chinese patients with NSCLC were collected for targeted panel sequencing. Genomic alterations, including single nucleotide variations, insertions/deletions, copy number variations, and gene rearrangements, were assessed and TMB was computed.

Background: Echinoderm microtubule-associated protein-like 4 () is the canonical anaplastic lymphoma kinase () fusion partner in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and -positive patients showed promising responses to ALK tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). However, studies that comprehensively investigate ALK TKI treatment in patients with different fusion patterns are still lacking.
Methods: Ninety-eight -positive patients with advanced NSCLC were retrospectively studied for their response to crizotinib and subsequent treatments.

Background: ARCHER 1050, an ongoing, randomized, open-label, phase III trial of dacomitinib versus gefitinib in newly diagnosed patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and an EGFR-activating mutation, reported significant improvement in overall survival (OS) with dacomitinib.
Objective: This paper reports an updated OS analysis of ARCHER 1050 after an extended follow-up.
Patients And Methods: In this multinational, multicenter trial, adults (aged ≥ 18 years or ≥ 20 years in Japan and Korea) with newly diagnosed NSCLC and EGFR mutation (exon 19 deletion or exon 21 L858R substitution), and no history of central nervous system metastases, were randomized 1:1 to receive dacomitinib 45 mg/day (n = 227) or gefitinib 250 mg/day (n = 225).

Background: Optimal parathyroid hormone (PTH) control during non-dialysis chronic kidney disease (ND-CKD) might decrease the subsequent risk of parathyroid hyperplasia and uncontrolled secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) on dialysis. However, the evidence for recommending PTH targets and therapeutic strategies is weak for ND-CKD. We evaluated the patient characteristics, treatment patterns and PTH control over the first year of haemodialysis (HD) by PTH prior to HD initiation.

Background: To investigate whether the mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at ST36 involves dopamine (DA) and its receptor and whether it is mediated by the vagus nerve in a rat model of intestinal ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury.
Methods: Rats were subjected to gut ischaemia for 30 min and then received EA for 30 min with or without abdominal vagotomy or intraperitoneal administration of butaclamol (D1 receptor antagonist) or spiperone (D2 receptor antagonist). Plasma levels of DA and tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-α were assessed 1 or 4 h after reperfusion.

The cross-talk between cancer cells and monocyte-derived alveolar macrophages (Mo-AMs) promotes non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) progression. In this study, we report that both cancer cells and Mo-AMs robustly express beta 3-adrenergic receptor (ADRB3) in NSCLC. ADRB3 supports lung cancer cells proliferation and promotes chronic inflammation.
