Background: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) can lead to cognitive impairment, but underlying neural mechanisms remain to be elucidated.
Materials And Methods: To predict long-term cognitive impairment after aSAH, resting electroencephalography (EEG) was measured in 112 patients hospitalized with a diagnosis of aSAH (n = 66) or unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA; controls) (n = 46). A neuropsychological battery was administered 8 to 24 months after discharge.

The emergence of multiple drug-resistant bacteria poses critical health threats worldwide. It is urgently needed to develop potent and safe antibacterial agents with novel bactericidal mechanisms to treat these infections. In this study, magnolol was identified as a potential bacterial cell division inhibitor by a cell-based screening approach.

Traditional cancer vaccines containing a single or a few discrete tumor epitopes have failed in the clinic, possibly due to challenges in epitope selection, target downregulation, cancer cell heterogeneity, tumor microenvironment immunosuppression, or a lack of vaccine immunogenicity. Whole cancer cell or cancer membrane vaccines, which provide a rich source of antigens, are emerging as viable alternatives.

Ferroptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death characterized by iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and a decline in antioxidant capacity, all of which are regulated by gene expression. The onset of numerous diseases is closely associated with ferroptosis. Common diseases affect a large population, reduce the quality of life, and impose an increased burden on the healthcare system.

Ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) is one of the effective antibiotics used for the treatment of carbapenem-resistant (CRKP) infections, but its resistance rate has increased recently. Previous studies have focused on the mechanisms of CZA resistance, while its heteroresistance in CRKP remains poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and mechanisms of CZA heteroresistance in CRKP isolates.

Background: Mucolipidosis (ML) II and III alpha/beta are lysosomal disorders caused by mutations in the GNPTAB gene which encodes the alpha and beta subunits of the heterohexameric enzyme, N-acetylglucosamine-1-phosphotransferase.
Method: To explore the clinical and molecular characteristics of the 20 ML II and III alpha/beta patients, clinical data was collected and GNPTAB gene was analyzed by nest PCR and direct Sanger-sequencing. The activity of several lysosomal enzymes was measured in the plasma.

Aims: High telomerase activity has been detected in over 85 % of tumors, with the activation of hTERT being the most crucial mechanism for re-establishing telomerase activity. Activation of hTERT maintains telomere length in cells, enabling cancer cells to proliferate indefinitely. Nevertheless, the specific mechanism of telomerase activation in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unclear, and post-transcriptional regulation of hTERT could be a potential activation mechanism.

White adipose tissue (WAT) browning is considered a promising strategy to combat obesity and related metabolic diseases. Currently, fat-water fraction (FWF) has been used as a marker for the loss of lipids associated with WAT browning. However, FWF may not be sensitive to metabolic changes and cannot specifically reflect iron-regulated metabolism during browning.

As a member of the single-fluorophore genetically encoded calcium indicators (GECIs), jGCaMP7f is widely applied to investigate intracellular Ca concentrations. Here, we established an INS-jGCaMP7f knock-in H1 human embryonic stem cell (hESC) line by integrating jGCaMP7f gene into insulin locus via CRISPR/Cas9 system. The reporter cell line not only effectively labelled the insulin-producing cells induced from hESC, but also reflected the cytosolic change of Ca level in response to different stimuli.

Blastocyst complementation can potentially generate a rodent model with humanized nasopharyngeal epithelium (NE) that supports sustained Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, enabling comprehensive studies of EBV biology in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. However, during this process, the specific gene knockouts required to establish a developmental niche for NE remain unclear. We performed bioinformatics analyses and generated Foxa1 mutant mice to confirm that Foxa1 disruption could potentially create a developmental niche for NE.
