Acute kidney injury (AKI) can progress to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and subsequently to renal fibrosis. Poor repair of renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) after injury is the main cause of renal fibrosis. Studies have shown that restoring damaged fatty acid β-oxidation (FAO) can reduce renal fibrosis.

Histone deacetylase HDAC6 has been implicated in regulating antiviral innate immunity. However, its precise function in response to DNA virus infection remains elusive. Herein, we find that HDAC6 deficiency promotes the activation of cGAS-STING signaling and type I interferon (IFN) production, both in vitro and in vivo, resulting in a decrease in HSV-1 infection.

This study investigates the epidemic trend of pyrazinamide (PZA)-resistant tuberculosis in Southern China over 11 years (2012-2022) and evaluates the mutation characteristics of PZA resistance-related genes ( and ) in clinical () isolates. To fulfil these goals, we analyzed the phenotypic PZA resistance characteristics of 14,927 clinical isolates for which Bactec MGIT 960 PZA drug susceptibility testing (DST) results were available, revealing that 2,054 (13.76%) isolates were resistant to PZA.

The self-assembled peptide RADA16-I (RADARADARADARADA) has been widely used in biomaterials. However, studies on the practical application of self-assembled peptide hydrogels loaded with bioactive peptides are still insufficient. In this study, we successfully prepared the peptide nanofiber gel RGJ by incorporating the bioactive peptides A8SGLP-1 (G) and Jagged-1 (J) into RADA16-I (R) in specific ratios.

Objective: The effectiveness of Sanhuang Shu'ai decoction (SSD), a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat diarrhea and colitis, especially ulcerative colitis (UC), is not well understood regarding how its chemical components work.
Methods: This research used ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC)-tandem mass spectrometry (MS), network pharmacology, and molecular docking to understand the active substances and potential mechanisms of SSD in treating UC.
Results: UHPLC and MS analyses identified 710 active components in SSD extracts (ZYTQY) and 387 in SSD-containing serum (HYXQ), with 35 active compounds found in both ZYTQY and HYXQ and 67 active compounds from SSDD (SSD compound obtained directly from the database), along with 6 metabolites that may be key components in its function.

Background: Endocervical adenocarcinoma (ECA) comprises a heterogeneous group of diseases whose incidence has increased significantly in recent decades. ECA can be histologically classified into human papillomavirus-associated (HPVA) and non-HPVA (NHPVA) types. Given the variability in pathological features and clinical behavior between the subtypes, evaluating their respective immune microenvironments is essential.

Marine collagen is gaining more attraction than terrestrial collagen because it is free of zoonotic disease and religious constrain. In this study, we aimed to investigate and compare the physicochemical properties and functional characteristics of acid-soluble collagen (ASC-MF) and pepsin-soluble collagen (PSC-MF) extracted from scales of Megalonibea fusca. ASC-MF and PSC-MF were evaluated in terms of yield, collagen type, amino acid composition, thermal stability, microstructure, cytotoxicity, and other physicochemical parameters.

In aquatic environments, the deposition behaviors of nanoplastics (NPs) are closely associated with interfacial interaction between NPs and iron (hydr)oxides minerals, which are typically coupled with solution chemistry and organic matter. However, the roles of solution chemistry and organic matter in the deposition behavior of NPs with iron (hydr)oxides minerals and related interfacial interaction mechanism are still poorly understood. In this study, the deposition behaviors of carboxyl-modified polystyrene nanoparticles (COOH-PSNPs) with magnetite were systematically investigated.

Previous studies demonstrated that dexmedetomidine (Dex) posttreatment aggravated myocardial dysfunction and reduced survival in septic mice. Yet, whether Dex elicits similar effects in septic patients as defined by Sepsis-3 remains unknown. This study sought to assess the effects of Dex-based sedation on mortality and cardiac dysfunction in septic patients defined by Sepsis-3 and to further reveal the mechanisms in septic rats.

Marine fungal natural products (MFNPs) are a vital source of pharmaceuticals, primarily synthesized by relevant biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). However, many of these BGCs remain silent under standard laboratory culture conditions, delaying the development of novel drugs from MFNPs to some extent. This review highlights recent efforts in genome mining and biosynthetic pathways of bioactive natural products from marine fungi, focusing on methods such as bioinformatics analysis, gene knockout, and heterologous expression to identify relevant BGCs and elucidate the biosynthetic pathways and enzyme functions of MFNPs.
