Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus and a major cause of end-stage renal disease. Isoferulic acid (IFA) is a phenolic compound that has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hypoglycemic effects. Researches and our previous study showed the potential anti-diabetic capacity and anti- oxidative stress damage targeting podocytes of IFA.

Background: Natural compounds can positively impact health, and various studies suggest that they regulate glucose‒lipid metabolism by influencing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This metabolism is key to maintaining energy balance and normal physiological functions in the body. This review explores how SCFAs regulate glucose and lipid metabolism and the natural compounds that can modulate these processes through SCFAs.

With changes in lifestyle behaviors, including dietary structure and habits, the prevalence of Youth-onset Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (YODM) has increased 2 to 3 times compared to 30 years ago. YODM patients experience complications earlier, progress faster, and exhibit more severe symptoms. However, limited and inconclusive direct evidence, coupled with poor patient compliance, poses challenges in the clinical management of YODM.

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is representative of cardiovascular disease and the leading cause of death in humans. Previous studies have shown that kidney disease is associated with CHD, and current treatment options that can improve both cardiac and renal functions still have some limitations. The traditional Chinese medicine Bu-Shen-Huo-Xue granule (BSHXG) can promote blood rheology, inhibit platelet agglutination, and improve heart and kidney functions.

Background: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one of diabetic complications, which has become the leading cause of end-stage kidney disease. In addition to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor/angiotensin II receptor blocker(ACEI/ARB) and sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an effective alternative treatment for DKD. In this study, the effect of Qufeng Tongluo (QFTL) decoction in decreasing proteinuria has been observed and its mechanism has been explored based on autophagy regulation in podocyte.

To reduce the risk of adverse events (AEs) without compromising efficacy while improving chemotherapy compliance is crucial.
Methods: The authors searched Cochrane, Embase, Pubmed, and Web of Science databases for articles from inception to August 8, 2023, the main outcomes were disease-free survival, overall survival, chemotherapy completion rates, and AE frequency.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Buyang Huanwu decoction (BYHWD) in treating diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).
Methods: Eight electronic databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, Wanfang Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and PubMed, were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of BYHWD to treat DPN. We identified all RCTs related to BYHWD and those on the treatment of DPN with the combination of mecobalamin.

Liver fibrosis incidence and adverse outcomes are high; however, there are no known chemical drugs or biological agents that are specific and effective for treatment. The paucity of a robust and realistic in vitro model for liver fibrosis is one of the major causes hindering anti-liver fibrosis drug development. This article summarizes the latest progress in the development of in vitro cell models for liver fibrosis, with a focus based on the analysis of induction and activation of hepatic stellate cells, cell co-culture, and 3D model co-construction, as well as concurrent potential methods based on hepatic sinusoidal endothelial cell establishment.

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) has become the major cause of chronic kidney disease or end-stage renal disease. There is still a need for innovative treatment strategies for preventing, arresting, treating, and reversing DKD, and a plethora of scientific evidence has revealed that Chinese herbal monomers can attenuate DKD in multiple ways. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is one of the active ingredients of Astragalus membranaceus and was selected as a chemical marker in the Chinese Pharmacopeia for quality control purposes.

Paris saponin I, II, and VII are three important components in Paris polyphylla, which have been widely studied as tumor cytotoxic drugs, but their safety in vivo has not been reported. Therefore, this study evaluated the safety of these three drugs based on the zebrafish model. Firstly, the lethality curves and lethal concentration of 50% (LC) values of the three saponins were determined and the results showed the values of LC of Paris saponin I, II, and VII were 122.

Background: Prediabetes is a widespread condition that represents the state between normal serum glucose and diabetes. Older individuals and individuals with obesity experience a higher rate of prediabetes. Prediabetes is not only a risk factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus (t2dm) but is also closely related to microvascular and macrovascular complications.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by polyarticular, symmetric, and aggressive inflammation of the small joints in the hands and feet, resulting in dysfunction. With progress and development in medicine, treatment of RA is constantly evolving, making several drugs available for the treatment of RA. From the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) at the start of illness to glucocorticoids and then to conventional synthetic DMARDs (csDMARDs), biologic DMARDs (bDMARDs), and targeted synthetic DMARDs (tsDMARDs), therapeutic-use drugs for RA have been keeping pace with scientific research.

Ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) is a special type of coronary heart disease or an advanced stage of the disease, which is related to the pathological mechanism of primary dilated cardiomyopathy. Ischemic cardiomyopathy mainly occurs in the long-term myocardial ischemia, resulting in diffuse myocardial fibrosis. This in turn affects the cardiac ejection function, resulting in a significant impact on myocardial systolic and diastolic function, resulting in a decrease in the cardiac ejection fraction.
