FSGS is a common glomerular disorder that has a high propensity for recurrence after kidney transplant. The pathophysiology of FSGS is unknown, but podocytes seem to be the target of one or several circulating factors that lead to cytoskeleton reorganization and proteinuria. Research on podocytes has identified B7-1 as an important factor in podocyte biology and a new therapeutic target in renal disease.

Background: ALK-negative anaplastic large cell lymphoma associated with breast implant (i-ALCL) has been recently recognized as a distinct entity. Among 43 830 lymphomas registered in the French Lymphopath network since 2010, 300 breast lymphomas comprising 25 peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL) were reviewed. Among PTCL, ALK-negative ALCL was the most frequent and all of them were associated with breast implants.

The earliest symptom of glomerular injury in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) is microalbuminuria. The effect of hydroxyurea (HU) on urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) is unclear and should be determined, because increasing numbers of patients with SCD take this drug to improve red blood cell function. In this cohort study of 58 SS-homozygous adults with SCD who initiated HU therapy, we evaluated ACR changes and relationships of these changes with demographic, clinical, and biologic parameters at HU initiation (baseline) and 6 months later (follow-up).

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare autosomal-recessive condition resulting from structural and/or functional defects of the axoneme in motile cilia and sperm flagella. The great majority of mutations identified so far involve genes whose defects result in dynein-arm anomalies. By contrast, PCD due to CC/RS defects (those in the central complex [CC] and radial spokes [RSs]), which might be difficult to diagnose, remains mostly unexplained.

Few studies have examined the occurrence of minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). We report here a series of 18 patients with MCNS occurring among 13,992 new cases of NHL. We analyzed the clinical and pathologic characteristics of this association, along with the response of patients to treatment, to determine if this association relies on a particular disorder.

Anti-cancer therapeutic approaches targeting the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) ligand (anti-VEGF) or inhibiting its receptors (RTKI) have recently been developed. In spite of the promising results achieved, a serious drawback and dose-limiting side effect is the development, among others, of renal complications. This encompasses two glomerular pathological entities, namely minimal change/focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and thrombotic micro-angiopathy, involving two distinct cell types, podocytes and endothelial cells, respectively.

Low-dose IL-2 administration can control autoimmunity by specifically activating CD4(+) Foxp3(+) regulatory T cells (Tregs). Here, we studied IL-2-based immunotherapy in experimental graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). IL-2 administration to donor mice induced a dose-dependent expansion of Tregs in the graft but was insufficient to control GVHD.

Human CD4(+) CD25(+) FoxP3(+) regulatory T cells (Tregs) prevent allogeneic graft rejection by inhibiting T cell activation, as has been shown in mouse models. Recently, low-dose IL-2 administration was shown to specifically activate Tregs but not pathogenic conventional T cells, leading to resolution of type 1 diabetes in nonobese diabetic mice. We therefore tested the ability of low-dose IL-2 to prevent allogeneic skin graft rejection.

Purpose: To determine whether any tumor biomarkers could account for the survival advantage observed in the LNH 03-2B trial among patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and low-intermediate risk according to the International Prognostic Index when treated with dose-intensive rituximab, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vindesine, bleomycin, and prednisone (R-ACVBP) compared with standard rituximab, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP).
Patients And Methods: Using immunohistochemistry, expression of CD10, BCL6, MUM1, MYC, and BCL2 and coexpression of MYC/BCL2 were examined. The interaction effects between each biomarker and treatment arm on survival were studied in a restricted model and a full model incorporating clinical parameters.

The pathophysiology of cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease remains incompletely understood. New explanations for the pathogenesis of CF lung disease may be discovered by studying the patterns of protein expression in cultured human nasal epithelial cells (HNEC). Chronobiological models have contributed to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of bipolar disorders. Circadian functions dysregulations are associated with bipolar disorders, including biochemical (melatonin and cortisol profiles), actigraphic (sleep/wake patterns), and dimensional (chronotypes) circadian markers. These associations are observed not only during acute episodes but also during euthymic periods.

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs) are heterogeneous and uncommon malignancies characterized by an aggressive clinical course and a mostly poor outcome with current treatment strategies. Despite novel insights into their pathobiology provided by recent genome-wide molecular studies, several entities remain poorly characterized. In addition to the neoplastic cell population, PTCLs have a microenvironment component, composed of non-tumor cells and stroma, which is quantitatively and qualitatively variable, and which may have an effect on their pathological and clinical features.
