Background: Intermediate cell carcinoma (Int-CA) is a rare and enigmatic primary liver cancer characterized by uniform tumor cells exhibiting mixed features of both HCC and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Despite the unique pathological features of int-CA, its molecular characteristics remain unclear yet.

Methods: RNA sequencing and whole genome sequencing profiling were performed on int-CA tumors and compared with those of HCC and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.

These biomarkers are increased in patients with aquaporin-4 antibody-positive NMOSD (AQP4+NMOSD) during clinical attacks suggesting a concomitant axonal and glial damage. However, there are contradictory results in double seronegative NMOSD (DS-NMOSD).

Objective: Left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) is recommended to decrease the stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation and contraindications to anticoagulation. However, age-stratified data are scarce. The aim of this study was to provide information on the safety and efficacy of LAAC, with emphasis on the oldest patients.

Studies have reported that the constituents of the wound microenvironment are likely to have critical roles in the degradation and fate of the polymeric matrix and the compounds dissolved in the wound dressing matrix. Thus, chronic wound assessment and the design of effective medical devices and drug products for wound care partly rely on an in-depth understanding of the wound microenvironment. The main aim of this review is to identify and discuss the different stages of chronic wound progression, focusing on the changes in the biochemical composition of the wound microenvironment, with particular attention given to venous leg ulcers (VLUs), as they are one of the most prevalent chronic wound aetiologies.

Impact of lock solutions on the mechanical performance of polyurethane central venous catheters: A comparative study.

The impact of ethanol locks on the mechanical performances of central venous catheters was compared to that of aqueous-based locks. Several mechanical tests were performed to evaluate catheter behavior: kinking radius measurements, burst pressure, and tensile tests. Different polyurethanes were studied to assess the impact of radio-opaque charge and polymer chemical composition on catheter behavior.

Surface and mechanical properties of polyurethane central venous catheters after repeated contact with chemotherapy excipient solutions.

This article investigates the impact of the interactions between polyurethane central venous catheters and solutions containing excipients used in cisplatin and paclitaxel formulations. Changes to the properties of catheters and the leaching of catheter additives into the infused solutions were studied while these solutions were infused cyclically for several months. Chemotherapy treatment was mimicked in vitro in compliance with hospital practices.

Background: Data comparing tofacitinib and vedolizumab in ulcerative colitis (UC) are lacking.

Aims: To compare the effectiveness of tofacitinib and vedolizumab in patients with UC who had prior exposure to anti-TNF therapy METHODS: In this multicentre study, we included consecutive patients with UC ≥18 years old with partial Mayo score >2 and prior anti-TNF exposure, who started tofacitinib or vedolizumab between January 2019 and June 2021. Comparisons were performed using propensity score analyses (inverse probability of treatment weighting).

Absence of Mortality Differences Between the First and Second COVID-19 Waves in Kidney Transplant Recipients.

Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 pandemic evolved in 2 consecutive waves during 2020. Improvements in the management of COVID-19 led to a reduction in mortality rates among hospitalized patients during the second wave. Whether this progress benefited kidney transplant recipients (KTRs), a population particularly vulnerable to severe COVID-19, remained unclear.

Changing the Antipsychotic in Early Nonimprovers to Amisulpride or Olanzapine: Randomized, Double-Blind Trial in Patients With Schizophrenia.

Background And Hypothesis: Meta-analyses have shown that the majority of patients with schizophrenia who have not improved after 2 weeks of treatment with an antipsychotic drug are unlikely to fully respond later. We hypothesized that switching to another antipsychotic with a different receptor binding profile is an effective strategy in such a situation.

Study Design: In total, 327 inpatients with an acute exacerbation of schizophrenia were randomized to double-blind treatment with either olanzapine (5-20 mg/day) or amisulpride (200-800 mg/day).

Mepolizumab for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (SYNAPSE): In-depth sinus surgery analysis.

Background: Patients with severe chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) often require repeat sinus surgery. Mepolizumab reduced the need for sinus surgery in the SYNAPSE trial; this analysis sought to provide a more in-depth assessment of surgery endpoints in SYNAPSE.

Methods: SYNAPSE was a double-blind Phase III trial (NCT03085797) in adults with recurrent, refractory, severe, CRSwNP eligible for repeat sinus surgery despite standard of care treatments and previous surgery.
