Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on male fertility preservation (FP) through sperm banking for men aged 15-49 diagnosed with testicular cancer (TC) or lymphomas (L) in France in 2018.
  • It analyzed data from the French National Cancer Institute and sperm banking centers, estimating sperm banking rates of 41% for TC, 40% for Hodgkin L, and 7% for non-Hodgkin L among diagnosed men.
  • The findings suggest a need for improved patient education and awareness to increase sperm banking rates and assess factors leading to the lack of sperm preservation before gonadotoxic treatments.

  • Surgical resection (SR) is a potential cure for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but high recurrence rates pose a challenge, necessitating the development of better risk stratification tools for predicting recurrence.
  • A new scoring system, called the Early Recurrence Score (ERS), was created from data of 2359 patients who underwent SR for HCC, evaluating factors like alpha-fetoprotein levels and tumor characteristics to forecast 2-year recurrence risk.
  • The ERS effectively stratified patients into four risk categories with good accuracy and can help personalize surveillance and therapy plans post-surgery.

Supporting children and adolescents who are trans or who are questioning cannot be done without an ethical reflection on one's own practice as a health professional. It is important to consider the young person as a whole, including reproductive health issues. This article proposes, through the principles of Beauchamps and Childress, an ethical reflection on the issues of beneficence - not maleficence, and of autonomy and justice for adolescents, young adults, and future trans or questioning parents.

Antihypertensive treatment: the human factor. Two barriers limit the effectiveness of treatment in chronic diseases: non-adherence by patients who do not take prescribed drugs and clinical inertia by physicians who do not follow good practice guidelines. Taking this "human factor" into account reveals the importance of the quality of the doctor-patient relationship.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and aggressive leukemia for which we developed a nationwide network to collect data from new cases diagnosed in France. In a retrospective, observational study of 86 patients (2000-2013), we described clinical and biological data focusing on morphologies and immunophenotype. We found expression of markers associated with plasmacytoid dendritic cell origin (HLA-DRhigh, CD303+, CD304+, and cTCL1+) plus CD4 and CD56 and frequent expression of isolated markers from the myeloid, B-, and T-lymphoid lineages, whereas specific markers (myeloperoxidase, CD14, cCD3, CD19, and cCD22) were not expressed.
