Background: We aimed to investigate the association of intracranial complications diagnosed on neuroimaging with neurological outcomes of adults with severe pneumococcal meningitis.
Methods: We performed a retrospective multicenter study on consecutive adults diagnosed with pneumococcal meningitis requiring at least 48 h of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) and undergoing neuroimaging, between 2005 and 2021. All neuroimaging were reanalyzed to look for intracranial complications which were categorized as (1) ischemic lesion, (2) intracranial hemorrhage (3) abscess/empyema, (4) ventriculitis, (5) cerebral venous thrombosis, (6) hydrocephalus, (7) diffuse cerebral oedema.

Background: Assessing the risk of subsequent self-harm after hospitalisation for COVID-19 is critical for mental health care planning during and after the pandemic.
Aims: This study aims to compare the risk of admission to hospital for self-harm within 12 months following a COVID-19 hospitalisation during the first half of 2020, with the risk following hospitalisations for other reasons.
Method: Using the French administrative healthcare database, logistic regression models were employed to analyse data from patients admitted to hospitals in metropolitan France between January and June 2020.

Autism represents a large spectrum of diverse individuals with varying underlying genetic architectures and needs. For some individuals, a single de novo or ultrarare genetic variant has a large effect on the intensity of specific dimensions of the phenotype, while, for others, a combination of thousands of variants commonly found in the general population are involved. The variants with large impact are found in up to 30% of autistic individuals presenting with intellectual disability, significant speech delay, motor delay, and/or seizures.

Background: Quality of life is decreased in bipolar disorders (BD) and contributes to poor prognosis. However, little is known about the causal pathways that may affect it. This study aimed to explore health-related QoL (HRQoL) in BD and investigate its relationship with cognition and psychosocial functioning.

Stroke remains a leading cause of mortality and long-term disability worldwide, with variable recovery trajectories posing substantial challenges in anticipating post-event care and rehabilitation planning. In response, we established the NeuralCup consortium to address these challenges by benchmarking predictive models of stroke outcome through a collaborative, data-driven approach. This study presents the findings of 15 participating teams worldwide who used a comprehensive dataset including clinical and imaging data, to identify and compare predictors of motor, cognitive, and emotional outcomes one-year post-stroke.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a central nervous system disease involving gray and white matters. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could help identify potential markers of disease evolution, disability, and treatment response. This work evaluates the relationship between intracortical inhibition and facilitation, motor cortex lesions, and corticospinal tract (CST) integrity.

Background: Postoperative cognitive decline (POCD) is the predominant complication affecting patients over 60 years old following major surgery, yet its prediction and prevention remain challenging. Understanding the biological processes underlying the pathogenesis of POCD is essential for identifying mechanistic biomarkers to advance diagnostics and therapeutics. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of immune cell trajectories differentiating patients with and without POCD and to derive a predictive score enabling the identification of high-risk patients during the preoperative period.

The psychologist working in an institution plays a specific role within a multidisciplinary team, where skills are multiple but complementary. As part of a holistic approach, the psychologist's position in relation to other team members, the different functions he or she occupies and his or her ethical responsibility are essential elements in the support provided. Whether supporting professionals or caring for patients, the psychologist brings unique resources to the relational space.

Background: Psychiatric disorders often emerge during adolescence or young adulthood, leading to significant disability among youth. The transition from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to Adult Mental Health Services (AMHS) is critical for individuals experiencing emerging psychopathology, with delayed access to care negatively impacting long-term outcomes. Accessing mental health services for adolescents and young adults is often complex and delayed due to challenges in service visibility, accessibility and appropriateness.

Background & Aims: There is limited understanding of the benefits of alcohol rehabilitation after alcohol hepatitis (AH).
Methods: We conducted a 2012 to 2021 national longitudinal study involving adult inpatients diagnosed with AH in France. We assessed the primary outcome of liver transplantation or death within 1 year after AH, including in its complicated form (CAH) defined as ≥2 hepatic or extrahepatic complications within 4 weeks after AH.

Background: Nutrition is largely affected in bipolar disorder (BD), however, there is a lack of understanding on the relationship between dietary categories, BD, and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome. The objective of this study is to examine dietary trends in BD and it is hypothesized that diets with increased consumption of seafood and high-fiber carbohydrates will be correlated to improved patient outcomes, and a lower frequency of metabolic syndrome.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study includes two French cohorts.

Introduction: We investigated the link between habitual caffeine intake with memory impairments and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients.
Methods: MCI (N = 147) and AD (N = 116) patients of the Biomarker of AmyLoid pepTide and AlZheimer's diseAse Risk (BALTAZAR) cohort reported their caffeine intake at inclusion using a dedicated survey. Associations of caffeine consumption with memory impairments and CSF biomarkers (tau, p-tau181, amyloid beta 1-42 [Aβ], Aβ) were analyzed using logistic and analysis of covariance models.

Neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by progressive dysfunction and loss of specific sets of neurons. While extensive research has focused on elucidating the genetic and epigenetic factors and molecular mechanisms underlying these disorders, emerging evidence highlights the critical role of secretion in the pathogenesis, possibly even onset, and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, suggesting the occurrence of non-cell-autonomous mechanisms. Secretion is a fundamental process that regulates intercellular communication, supports cellular homeostasis, and orchestrates various physiological functions in the body.

Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG) is the gold standard to investigate the epileptic network in cases of drug-resistant epilepsy. Robot-assisted SEEG is increasingly being used; however, its installation process in the operating room is more difficult than that of the stereotactic frame procedure. New robotic tools and 3D intraoperative imaging ease the setup while achieving the same mechanical precision and a lower complication rate.
