The prevalence of alcohol use disorders in hospital patients was studied in all the hospitals of one area of France. Alcohol disorders were diagnosed by the head nurse or a physician in the hospital where the patient was being attended, and by means of the CAGE self-questionnaire. This descriptive survey, carried out on one particular day, concerned 7626 patients.

[Pharmacologic approach to negative symptoms in schizophrenia].

Various pharmacologic agents have been reported to be effective in treating negative symptoms of schizophrenia. European schools of psychiatry and especially the French one assumed the opinion that part of negative symptoms of schizophrenia do respond to neuroleptics. In light of effects of reserpine and some phenothiazines on negative schizophrenia, various pharmacologic agents have been studied focusing on these properties.
