Background: Dysregulated pathways in cancer may be hub addicted. Identifying these dysregulated networks for targeting might lead to novel therapeutic options.

Objective: Considering the hypothesis that central hubs are associated with increased lethality, identifying key hub targets within central networks could lead to the development of novel drugs with improved efficacy in advanced metastatic solid tumors.

Background: Fenestrating a Fontan baffle has been associated with improved perioperative outcomes in patients with univentricular hearts. However, longer-term potential adverse effects remain debated. We sought to assess the impact of a fenestrated Fontan baffle on adverse cardiovascular events including all-cause mortality, cardiac transplantation, atrial arrhythmias, and thromboemboli.

Cardiac Drugs in ACHD Cardiovascular Medicine.

J Cardiovasc Dev Dis

April 2023

Cardiologie Congénitale Adulte, Institut du Thorax, CHU de Nantes, 44000 Nantes, France.

Adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) is a growing population that requires life-long care due to advances in pediatric care and surgical or catheter procedures. Despite this, drug therapy in ACHD remains largely empiric due to the lack of clinical data, and formalized guidelines on drug therapy are currently lacking. The aging ACHD population has led to an increase in late cardiovascular complications such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and pulmonary hypertension.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare disease affecting mainly the pre-capillary pulmonary vascular bed. However, some forms of the disease have venous/capillary involvement. It is an obstructive remodelling of the pulmonary arterioles coupled with vascular pruning, increasing right ventricular afterload and leading to right heart failure.

Objectives: We sought to assess the resumption of sport, exercise performances, and quality of life (QoL) in adults and children after surgical repair of anomalous coronary arteries originating from the opposite sinus (ACAOS).

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent surgical repair for ACAOS between 2002 and 2022 were retrospectively identified. Information about sports activity and exercise performance based on metabolic equivalents of task (METs) calculated at the last exercise stress test, were collected.

Study Design: Retrospective study of a multicenter prospective database.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the organization and correlations between different spinal segments according to pelvic incidence (PI) and age.

Summary Of Background Data: When planning surgery for the correction of adult spinal deformities, considering lumbar lordosis (LL) as a uniform segment is an approximation that can lead to planning errors.

Introduction: Combining basal insulin (BI) with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) is recognized as a relevant option to optimize glucose control in type 2 diabetes (T2D). The EASY real-world study aimed to evaluate the modalities of initiation and the effectiveness of the insulin Degludec plus Liraglutide (IDegLira) fixed-ratio combination in the French health care system.

Methods: A retrospective analysis included all patients with T2D and prior injectable therapy (GLP1-RA and/or insulin) who started treatment with IDegLira from September 2016 to December 2017 in 11 French diabetes centers.

Introduction: Pre-viable premature rupture of membranes (pre-viable PROM) is a rare event occurring in less than 1% of pregnancies. Nevertheless, it can be responsible for severe maternal complications, the risk of which needs to be balanced with the possibility to prolong the pregnancy up to viable gestational age. Maternal sepsis was reported in 1%-5% of women who received conservative management and prophylactic antibiotics, but information on maternal mortality is lacking.

Purpose: The prognosis of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), traditionally determined by anatomic histology and TNM staging, neglects the biological features of the tumor that may be important in determining patient outcome and guiding therapeutic interventions. Identifying patients with NSCLC at increased risk of recurrence after curative-intent surgery remains an important unmet need so that known effective adjuvant treatments can be offered to those at highest risk of recurrence.

Methods: Relative gene expression level in the primary tumor and normal bronchial tissues was used to retrospectively assess their association with disease-free survival (DFS) in a cohort of 120 patients with NSCLC who underwent curative-intent surgery.

Obesity limits the access to kidney transplantation and increases the risk of complications and mortality posttransplantation. Usual noninvasive measures, including lifestyle changes and dietary education, do not provide long-term and consistent body weight reduction. In many cases, only bariatric surgery allows patients to significantly reduce body weight.

January 2023

Marie-Lannelongue Hospital, Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgery Department, Centre de Référence des Malformations Cardiaques Congénitales Complexes M3C Groupe Hospitalier Saint-Joseph, Paris-Saclay University, Plessis-Robinson, France.

Inferior sinus venosus defect associated with left hepatic vein drainage to the coronary sinus is an extremely rare condition. We report the case of a 41-year-old man suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension related to this unusual CHD. Planning of heart-lung transplantation in this case required accurate anatomical description.

Institut Micalis UMR 1319, université Paris-Saclay, INRAe, AgroParisTech, Châtenay, Malabry, France; Service de microbiologie clinique, Groupe hospitalier Paris Saint-Joseph, Paris, France.

Objectives: We aimed to understand the immune response among healthcare workers (HCWs) following SARS-CoV-2 infection, and to determine the infection prevalence during the first wave of the pandemic among workers in our hospital.

Methods: Determination of the serological status against SARS-CoV-2 (nucleocapsid) was offered to all HCWs. All HCWs with positive SARS-CoV-2 serology were proposed to be included in a longitudinal medical and serological follow-up (anti-spike) for 7months.

Carriers of germline telomerase-related gene (TRG) mutations can show poor prognosis, with an increase in common hematological complications after lung transplantation (LT) for pulmonary fibrosis. The aim of this study was to describe the outcomes after LT in recipients carrying a germline TRG mutation and to identify the predictors of survival. In a multicenter cohort of LT patients, we retrospectively reviewed those carrying pathogenic TRG variations (n = 38; TERT, n = 23, TERC, n = 9, RTEL1, n = 6) between 2009 and 2018.

The usefulness of 3D printed heart models for medical student education in congenital heart disease.

BMC Med Educ

September 2021

Pediatric cardiology unit, Children Hospital, CHU Toulouse, 330 Avenue de Grande Bretagne TSA 70034, 31059, Toulouse cedex 9, France.

Background: Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology enables the translation of 2-dimensional (2D) medical imaging into a physical replica of a patient's individual anatomy and may enhance the understanding of congenital heart defects (CHD). We aimed to evaluate the usefulness of a spectrum of 3D-printed models in teaching CHD to medical students.

Results: We performed a prospective, randomized educational procedure to teach fifth year medical students four CHDs (atrial septal defect (ASD, n = 74), ventricular septal defect (VSD, n = 50), coarctation of aorta (CoA, n = 118) and tetralogy of Fallot (ToF, n = 105)).
