Parsing Fabry Disease Metabolic Plasticity Using Metabolomics.

J Pers Med

September 2021

Department of Metabolic Biochemistry, Normandie University, UNIROUEN, INSERM U1245, CHU Rouen, 76000 Rouen, France.

Background: Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal disease due to a deficiency in the activity of the lysosomal α-galactosidase A (GalA), a key enzyme in the glycosphingolipid degradation pathway. FD is a complex disease with a poor genotype-phenotype correlation. FD could involve kidney, heart or central nervous system impairment that significantly decreases life expectancy.

Background And Aims: Current artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions for capsule endoscopy (CE) interpretation are proprietary. We aimed to evaluate an AI solution trained on a specific CE system (Pillcam®, Medtronic) for the detection of angiectasias on images captured by a different proprietary system (MiroCam®, Intromedic).

Material And Methods: An advanced AI solution (Axaro®, Augmented Endoscopy), previously trained on Pillcam® small bowell images, was evaluated on independent datasets with more than 1200 Pillcam® and MiroCam® still frames (equally distributed, with or without angiectasias).

Background: Although minimally invasive rectal surgery (MIRS) for cancer provides better recovery for similar oncologic outcomes over open approach, conversion is still required in 10% and its impact on short-term and long-term outcomes remains unclear. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of conversion on postoperative and oncologic outcomes in patients undergoing MIRS for cancer.

Methods: From June 2011 to March 2020, we reviewed 257 minimally invasive rectal resections for cancer recorded in a prospectively maintained database, with 192 robotic and 65 laparoscopic approaches.

Article Synopsis
  • Uterine leiomyosarcomas and soft tissue leiomyosarcomas are rare tumors associated with poor outcomes and moderate response to chemotherapy; the latest update on the LMS-02 study suggests promising results for progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) with a specific chemotherapy regimen.
  • The study involved 108 patients, primarily with metastatic disease, receiving a treatment plan that included doxorubicin and trabectedin, with a notable percentage undergoing surgical resection after chemotherapy; results showed a median PFS of around 10.1 months and median OS of 34.4 months overall.
  • Findings reinforce the efficacy of the doxorubicin and trab

The aim was to describe npPJI epidemiological, clinical and microbiological characteristics, their treatments and outcomes, and identify their risk factors.

Methods: This observational, single-center, cohort study was conducted in a French Referral Center for Bone-and-Joint Infections between September 2004 and December 2015.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate how often severe bleeding occurs after proctological surgery and to identify risk factors, especially in the context of guidelines for anticoagulant treatment.
  • - Out of 8,890 patients, only 0.7% required a hemostatic procedure, with a higher risk after hemorrhoidal surgeries, particularly the Milligan-Morgan procedure; blood transfusion was rare (0.1%).
  • - Findings indicated that the use of anticoagulants and platelet inhibitors, when managed according to recommendations, did not increase bleeding risk; surprisingly, active smokers had a lower risk of severe bleeding compared to non-smokers.
