Introduction: Induction of labour in women with an unfavourable cervix is associated with a risk of caesarean delivery. When a diagnosis of fetal growth restriction (FGR) is also involved, the risk of intrapartum fetal acidosis increases. The main objective was to identify prognostic factors for the risk of caesarean delivery after induction for suspected FGR after 36 weeks of gestation with an unripe cervix.

Study Question: How has the performance of the European regional register of the European IVF-monitoring Consortium (EIM)/European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) evolved from 1997 to 2016, as compared to the register of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the USA and the Australia and New Zealand Assisted Reproduction Database (ANZARD)?

Summary Answer: It was found that coherent and analogous changes are recorded in the three regional registers over time, with a different intensity and pace, that new technologies are taken up with considerable delay and that incidental complications and adverse events are only recorded sporadically.

What Is Known Already: European data on ART have been collected since 1997 by EIM. Data collection on ART in Europe is particularly difficult due to its fragmented political and legal landscape.

The mutational landscape of gray zone lymphoma (GZL) has not yet been established, and differences from related entities are largely unknown. Here, we studied coding sequence mutations of 50 Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-negative GZLs and 20 polymorphic EBV+ diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) not otherwise specified (poly-EBV-L) in comparison with classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL), primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL), and DLBCL. Exomes of 21 GZL and 7 poly-EBV-L cases, along with paired constitutional DNA, were analyzed as a discovery cohort, followed by targeted sequencing of 217 genes in an extension cohort of 29 GZL and 13 poly-EBV-L cases.

Département de Médecine Interne, Université de Paris, Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, Paris, France; Centre de Recherche sur l'Inflammation, INSERM U1149, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients are at risk for pneumococcal infection. Twenty-one consecutive SLE patients (40[25-75] years) received the sequential PCV13/PPSV23 vaccine and factors associated with long-term protection were analyzed. Immune protection, defined by an antigen-specific IgG concentration ≥1.

Aix Marseille Univ, INSERM, IRD, SESSTIM, Sciences Économiques & Sociales de la Santé & Traitement de l'Information Médicale, 13385 Marseille, France.

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide. Previous research has demonstrated its neuroprotective effects in the elderly. People coinfected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) experience an accelerated aging process and cognitive impairment, which significantly impair quality of life and may affect disease-related dimensions such as treatment adherence.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates comorbidities in patients with COPD, focusing on those exposed to organic dust (like dairy farmers) and tobacco smoking.
  • The research finds that, regardless of exposure, patients with COPD do not have a higher frequency of cardiovascular issues compared to non-COPD individuals.
  • Tobacco smoking is linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular comorbidities, while exposure to organic dust appears to lower that risk, emphasizing the importance of managing cardiovascular health in COPD patients.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the reliability and performance of MRI measures enhanced with intravenous (IV) injection of gadolinium contrast versus non-enhanced MRI measures for the diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis (AC). We also aimed to examine the association between MRI findings and clinical features in patients with AC.

Methods: MRI of 42 patients with a clinical diagnosis of AC confirmed by arthrography and that of 42 patients in a control group were retrospectively studied by 2 blinded readers.

Objectives: To compare objective and subjective image quality of bronchial structures between a 512-pixel and a 1024-pixel image matrix for chest CT in phantoms and in patients.

Materials And Methods: First, a two-size chest phantom was imaged at two radiation doses on a 192-slice CT scanner. Datasets were reconstructed with 512-, 768-, and 1024-pixel image matrices and a sharp reconstruction kernel (Bl64).

Article Synopsis
  • - Gray zone lymphoma (GZL) is a rare type of B-cell lymphoma that has characteristics of both large B-cell lymphoma and classic Hodgkin lymphoma, and is often poorly understood.
  • - In a study examining GZL alongside other lymphoma types, researchers found that GZL shows intermediate features between classic Hodgkin lymphoma and primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, while another subset, polymorphic-EBV-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, shows distinct clustering.
  • - The research identified two subtypes of GZL with different clinical features, linked to their anatomical location, and indicated that GZL is characterized by specific biological pathways related to tumor behavior and the microenvironment, highlighting the role of certain immune

Reform of the 3rd cycle in surgery training.

J Visc Surg

June 2020

Service d'urologie, center hospitalier Lyon Sud, université de Lyon Sud, 69310 Pierre-Bénite, France.

The main objectives of the reform of the 3rd cycle of medical studies in France that was instituted in 2017 after eight years of preparation, are to train future specialists in a consistent and equitable fashion and to replace the previous time-based qualification by training based on the progressive acquisition of skills. This reform was an opportunity for the 13 different French surgical specialty Colleges involved to share reflections on what a surgeon actually was and to define training in surgical sub-specialties. The current reform is well adapted to these specifications and has fostered training models that are consistent with each other.

EMERGEncy versus delayed coronary angiogram in survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest with no obvious non-cardiac cause of arrest: Design of the EMERGE trial.

Am Heart J

April 2020

Cardiology Department, European Hospital Georges Pompidou, Assistance Publique- Hôpitaux de Paris, Paris Descartes University, Sudden Cardiac Death Expert Center, INSERM U 971, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Background: In adults, the most common cause of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) is acute coronary artery occlusion. If an immediate coronary angiogram (CAG) is recommended for survivors presenting a ST segment elevation on the electrocardiogram (ECG) performed after resuscitation, there is still a debate regarding the best strategy in patients without ST segment elevation.

Hypothesis: Performing an immediate CAG after an OHCA without ST segment elevation on the post-resuscitation ECG and no obvious non-cardiac cause of arrest could lead to a better 180-day survival rate with no or minimal neurological sequel as compared with a delayed CAG performed 48 to 96 hours after the arrest.

People living with HIV (PLHIV) are more likely than the general population to develop AIDS-defining malignancies (ADMs) and several non-ADMs (NADMs). Information is lacking on survival outcomes and cause-specific mortality after cancer diagnosis among PLHIV. We investigated causes of death within 5 years of cancer diagnosis in PLHIV enrolled in European and North American HIV cohorts starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) 1996-2015, aged ≥16 years, and subsequently diagnosed with cancer.

Specific and reciprocal interactions with the bone marrow microenvironment (BMM) govern the course of hematological malignancies. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), secreted by leukemia cells, facilitates tumor progression via remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) of the BMM. Hypothesizing that leukemias may instruct the BMM to degrade the ECM, we show, that MMP-9-deficiency in the BMM prolongs survival of mice with BCR-ABL1-induced B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) compared with controls and reduces leukemia-initiating cells.
