[Median inferior cervicomandibular cleft: a case report, etiologic and therapeutic aspects].

Introduction: The orofacial clefts include 30 variant according to Tessier classification: the number 30 contain mandibular arc damage isolated or associated with damage of surrounding soft tissue.

Case Report: Our patient was a newborn with median mandibular cleft associated with ankyloglossia, bifid tongue and a top cervical fistula. We have not found polymalformative syndrome.

Simple method to determine beta-lactam resistance phenotypes in Pseudomonas aeruginosa using the disc agar diffusion test.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major opportunistic bacterial pathogen in nosocomial infections because of the increasing prevalence of resistance to many of the commonly used antibiotics. To ensure optimal efficiency of antibiotic treatment against this species, antibiotic susceptibility tests must be interpreted with caution. Most microbiologists now consider it essential to characterize the antibiotic resistance expressed by isolates.

[Post-licensing surveillance of vaccines].

Pharmacoepidemiological studies are essential in the post-licensing surveillance of vaccines in order to evaluate the potential benefits and risks of vaccines used in common practice. Surveillance is required to detect rare or unanticipated vaccine adverse events and to ensure confidence in vaccination. Epidemiological studies provide data on the long-term protection conferred by vaccination, and the incidence and associated mortality of, and population susceptibility to, diseases preventable by vaccine.

[Cleft of the lower lip, mandible and sternum. A case report and review of the literature].

The Authors report a case of cleft interesting the lower lip and mandible with a sternal cleft. This association is exceptional, it was described in three world cases to this day. At this occasion, a review of the literature is realized, in particular concerning the associated malformatives anomalies and the therapeutic behaviour.

Brain natriuretic peptide: A marker of myocardial dysfunction and prognosis during severe sepsis.

Objective: To investigate the value of brain natriuretic peptide plasma levels as a marker of systolic myocardial dysfunction during severe sepsis and septic shock.

Design: Prospective observational study.

In 1994, the French bioethics laws changed the regulations concerning donated human tissues with safety precautions and therapeutic use. The decree of 29(th) December 1998 describes the practical obligations required of bone tissue banks for approval by the French Health Ministry. Before the new regulations, a quality system was implemented at the Cochin hospital bone tissue bank.
