Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the tibial rotation between two types of knee implants: rotating hinge knee prostheses and constrained condylar prostheses, focusing on clinical outcomes in revision knee arthroplasty.
  • It included 20 patients, with 10 receiving each type of prosthesis, and tibial rotation was measured at various degrees of knee flexion using accelerometers.
  • Results showed that the rotating hinge knee group had significantly higher tibial rotation and better postoperative Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Scores, suggesting it may offer greater clinical satisfaction due to its lower rotational constraint.

Uterine sarcomas are rare and heterogeneous malignancies accounting for 1% to 3% of all gynaecological tumours. There are many histological subtypes recognised, including leiomyosarcomas, endometrial stromal sarcoma, and uterine carcinosarcoma, although the latest has been recently discarded in this group. Despite its low incidence, these types of cancer currently entail multiple challenges, either in diagnostics or clinical management, with a poor prognosis associated.

Objective: To identify correlates of quality of life (QoL) measured with the Quality of Life Scale (QOLS) in participants of a multidisciplinary day hospital treatment program for fibromyalgia (FM).

Methods: In this cross-sectional, observational study, "real world" data from 480 FM patients including socio-demographics, pain variables and questionnaires such as the SF-36, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Multiphasic Pain Inventory (MPI), SCL-90-R and others were categorized according to the components (body structure and function, activities and participation, personal factors, environmental factors) of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF). For every ICF component, a linear regression analysis with QOLS as the dependent variable was computed.

Introduction: Periprosthetic infection is considered an increasing incidence pathology whose therapeutic strategies can be defined as unsatisfactory. Currently, animal models are employed to study its physiopathology and strategic therapies, but non-species-specific materials are implanted as foreign bodies. The use of these implants implies intrinsic instability, which hinders the development of a biofilm on their surfaces and complicates the post-operative recovery of the animal.

Department of Cardiology, Gregorio Marañón General Hospital, Madrid, Spain; European University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain; Complutense University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain.

Dyspnea is a common and disabling symptom of respiratory and heart diseases, which is growing in incidence. During hospital admission, breathlessness is under-diagnosed and under-treated, although there are treatments available for controlling the symptom. We have developed a tailored implementation strategy directed to medical staff to promote the application of these pharmacological and non-pharmacological tools in dealing with dyspnea.

Weber-Christian disease (WCD) is an inflammatory disease whose main histological feature is lobular panniculitis of adipose tissue. The location of panniculitis determines the clinical presentation, being the subcutaneous adipose tissue the most frequent one, followed by liver, spleen, bone marrow and mesenteric adipose tissue. Systemic corticosteroids are first line treatment, but other options should be considered if systemic symptoms are observed or in case of refractory clinical situation.

Full Professor, Maxillofacial Surgery, Complutense University Medical School, Madrid, Spain; Head and Chair, Oral and Maxillofacial Department, Gregorio Marañón General Hospital, Madrid, Spain.

Purpose: Oncologic patients undergoing segmental mandibulectomy with soft tissue resection develop several esthetic and functional sequelae; therefore, the defect must be reconstructed immediately. The iliac crest flap is the only flap that allows reconstruction of the previous dimensions of the mandible. However, the excessive soft tissue of this flap prevents optimal reconstruction of intraoral soft tissue defects.

Background: Gleason grading of prostatic specimens remains as one of the most powerful factors predicting prognosis in patients with prostate cancer. This grading system was created by Donald Gleason about 49 years ago and it takes into account the 2 most prevalent grades in the tumor sample, but it does not consider the presence of a third high grade pattern when it represents less than 5% of the whole radical prostatectomy specimen.

Objective: The objective of the present study is to determine whether the existence of a third pattern of growth in the radical prostatectomy samples correlates with a shorter recurrence free survival.

Radical orchiectomy is the standard treatment for patients with seminoma. In both bilateral and unilateral testicular cancer, this therapy results in infertility, permanent androgen replacement treatment and significant psychological problems stemming from castration. Given that most patients with germinal cell tumours are long-term survivors, quality of life is becoming more and more relevant in therapeutic decision-making.
