The process map of penile prosthesis implantation in outpatient surgery in Spain: a consensus document.

Penile prosthesis (PP) implantation is feasible as an outpatient surgery. The present study describes the surgical process and establishes a consensus for improving the care circuit for outpatient PP implantation in Spain. A working group composed of a scientific committee with extensive experience in PP implantation and representatives of important scientific societies reached a consensus about the recommendations for outpatient PP implantation.

Comunitats is an online peer support community app for BC survivors that involves healthcare professionals.

An update on access to novel treatment for metastatic melanoma in Europe - A 2024 survey of the European melanoma registry and the European association of dermato-oncology.

Advances in cancer treatments have significantly improved their effectiveness, yet access to first-line therapies remains limited. A 2017 survey revealed that over 25 % of metastatic melanoma patients in Europe lacked access to recommended therapies. To address this, the European Association of Dermato-Oncology and the European Melanoma Registry conducted a follow-up study on the registration and reimbursement of first-line treatments.

Clinical and sensitization profile in peach allergy due to LTP sensitization.

Background: Lipid transfer proteins (LTP) are associated with a wide range of severity of allergic reactions. However, the risk factors associated with this severity are not fully understood.

Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics of peach-allergic patients due to LTP sensitization and analyze the relationship between the severity of the reactions and patients' sensitization profiles.

Direct oral anticoagulants versus vitamin K antagonists in patients with thrombotic antiphospholipid syndrome: A prospective observational analysis.

Background: The role of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) versus vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in the treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome remains uncertain.

Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study on APS patients with VTE treated with VKAs or DOACs in a tertiary hospital from 2010 to 2023. Clinical characteristics, recurrent arterial or VTE events, and hemorrhagic complications were analyzed over a one-year follow-up.

Enhancing cardiovascular patients' knowledge of air pollution: a pilot study evaluating the impact of an educational intervention in cardiac rehabilitation.

Introduction: Air pollution poses significant risks to cardiovascular health, yet patients often lack comprehensive knowledge about its impact and mitigation strategies. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention within a cardiac rehabilitation (CR) context in enhancing patients' understanding of air pollution and its cardiovascular effects.

Methods: A pre-post pilot study was conducted from February 2021 to June 2021 at the Gregorio Marañón University General Hospital, Madrid, Spain.

Executive summary: Clinical practice guidelines on the management of resistant tuberculosis of the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC).

The Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and the Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology (SEIMC) have developed together Clinical Practice Guidelines (GPC) on the management of people affected by tuberculosis (TB) resistant to drugs with activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These clinical practice guidelines include the latest updates of the SEPAR regulations for the diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant TB from 2017 to 2020 as the starting point. The methodology included asking relevant clinical questions based on PICO methodology, a literature search focusing on each question, and a systematic and comprehensive evaluation of the evidence, with a summary of this evidence for each question.

COVID-19 clinical phenotypes in vaccinated and nonvaccinated solid organ transplant recipients: a multicenter validation study.

Clinical phenotypes of COVID-19, associated with mortality risk, have been identified in the general population. The present study assesses their applicability in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR) hospital-admitted by COVID-19. In a cohort of 488 SOTR, nonvaccinated (n = 394) and vaccinated (n = 94) against SARS-CoV-2, we evaluated 16 demographic, clinical, analytical, and radiological variables to identify the clinical phenotypes A, B, and C.

Long-term outcomes among patients who respond within the first year to nivolumab plus ipilimumab or nivolumab monotherapy: A pooled analysis in 935 patients.

Purpose: To investigate the predictive value of RECIST response within 3, 6, or 12 months on long-term survival, and explore differences between nivolumab+ipilimumab and nivolumab monotherapy, we analyzed pooled 5-year data of 935 responder and non-responder patients at various time points after treatment initiation in CheckMate 069, 066, and 067 studies.

Patients And Methods: Treatment-naive advanced melanoma patients received nivolumab+ipilimumab or nivolumab monotherapy. To decrease immortal time bias, 3-, 6-, or 12-month overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) landmark analyses were performed.

Deterioration Patterns in Patients Admitted for Severe COPD Exacerbation.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations represent significant clinical events marked by worsening respiratory symptoms, often necessitating changes in medication or hospitalization. Identifying patterns of exacerbation and understanding their clinical implications are critical for improving patient outcomes. This study aimed to identify exacerbation patterns in COPD patients using variations in the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) scores and compare clinical characteristics and comorbidities among patients with different exacerbation patterns.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy due to truncating variants in myosin binding protein C: a Spanish cohort.

Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is an inherited disorder whose causal variants involve sarcomeric protein genes. Real-world performance of susceptibility testing for cefiderocol: insights from a prospective multicentre study on Gram-negative bacteria.

Objectives: Cefiderocol is a novel siderophore-conjugated cephalosporin developed for the treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial (GNB) infections. However, the current gold standard for cefiderocol susceptibility testing, broth microdilution (BMD) using iron-depleted cation-adjusted Mueller-Hinton broth, presents challenges for many microbiology laboratories. In this study, we evaluate the real-world performance of disc diffusion (DD) and a commercial BMD method (ComASP) to test cefiderocol susceptibility in a series of isolates collected prospectively from severely ill patients in a multicentre study.

Should we measure quality of life among people with HIV? A multicentre survey of physicians' opinions in Spain.

Objectives: We assessed the opinions of physicians caring for people with HIV (PWH) from the multicentre Spanish CoRIS cohort regarding the assessment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL).

Methods: We designed an online self-administered questionnaire comprising 27 structured questions across four domains: (i) sociodemographic and clinical data; (ii) usefulness of measuring HRQoL; (iii) information, training and resource needed; and (iv) whether and how HRQoL should be measured. Physicians completed the questionnaire between April and June 2023.

Integrating automated dispensing cabinets into the medication dispensing process: feedback from the practice in European hospitals.
