Although hematopoietic cell transplantation from an HLA-matched unrelated donor is potentially curative for hematologic malignancies, survival is lower for African Americans compared with Caucasians. Because only approximately 20% of African Americans will have an HLA-matched unrelated donor, many of these patients undergo HLA-haploidentical relative or umbilical cord blood transplantation. In this study, we analyzed outcomes after HLA-haploidentical related donor (n = 249) and umbilical cord blood (n = 118) transplantations in African American patients with hematologic malignancy between 2008 and 2016.

Objectives: Polymerization shrinkage stress may lead to marginal damage, microleakage and failure of composite restorations. The objectives of this study were to : (1) develop a novel nanocomposite with low-shrinkage-stress, antibacterial and remineralization properties to reduce marginal enamel demineralization under biofilms; (2) evaluate the mechanical properties of the composite and calcium (Ca) and phosphate (P) ion release; and (3) investigate the cytotoxicity of the new low-shrinkage-stress monomer in vitro.

Methods: The low-shrinkage-stress resin consisted of urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) and triethylene glycol divinylbenzyl ether (TEG-DVBE), and 3 % dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM) and 20 % calcium phosphate nanoparticles (NACP) were added.

This proposal, born in the time of a severe crisis for the health care system, might also be applied when the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) outbreak ends and thereby reduce the turnaround time for results from molecular testing for patients with cancer and increase the number of patients potentially benefiting from highly effective targeted therapies.

Studies including our own have shown that downregulation of ERα with pure antiestrogen fulvestrant in combination with aromatase inhibitors may prolong responsiveness of the tumors to endocrine therapy. The objectives of this study were to: (1) develop a bioactive composite with calcium (Ca) and phosphate (P) ion-release and antibacterial capabilities via nanoparticles of amorphous calcium phosphate (NACP) and dimethylaminohexadecyl methacrylate (DMAHDM); (2) inhibit root biofilms of Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Candida albicans in a biofilm-based recurrent root caries model to protect root dentin hardness under biofilms for the first time.
