Unlabelled: Aquaticity is an important parameter of human aquatic performance and behavior and can be objectively assessed by the aquaticity assessment test. Low aquaticity score can unveil a person's high risk in the water while it could dictate the specific characteristics that need to be addressed or developed for improving water competence.

Aim: The aim of the current study was to assess whether human aquaticity can be developed by systematic exercise and which type of training is more effective in improving aquaticity score.

Varicella zoster virus central nervous system infection - a retrospective study from a tertiary center in Greece.

Introduction: Central nervous system (CNS) infection due to the varicella zoster virus (VZV) can complicate the primary infection or the reactivation, leading to significant mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to describe the clinical, laboratory, and radiological characteristics of patients with confirmed VZV CNS infection in a tertiary hospital in Greece.

Methods: Data about patients hospitalized from January 2018 to September 2023 with CNS infection by VZV, confirmed by a syndromic polymerase chain reaction in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), were retrospectively collected and evaluated.

Post-Concussion Syndrome (PCS) represents a complex constellation of symptoms that persist following a concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), with significant implications for patient care and outcomes. Despite its prevalence, diagnosing PCS presents considerable challenges due to the subjective nature of symptoms, the absence of specific diagnostic tests, and the overlap with other neurological and psychiatric conditions. This review explores the multifaceted diagnostic challenges associated with PCS, including the heterogeneity of symptom presentation, the limitations of current neuroimaging techniques, and the overlap of PCS symptoms with other disorders.

Replication Crisis in Psychology, Second-Order Cybernetics, and Transactional Causality: from Experimental Psychology to Applied Psychological Practice.

This article aims to reconceptualize the replication crisis as not merely a problem of flawed methods, lack of scientific rigor, or questionable researcher conduct, but as a fundamentally epistemological and philosophical issue. While improved methodologies and scientific practices are necessary, they must be considered through the lens of the underlying epistemologies. Toward this end, a new paradigm for psychological research and practice, grounded in second-order cybernetics and transactional causality, is proposed as instrumental.

Diuretics in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Diuretic drugs act on electrolyte transporters in the kidney to induce diuresis and are often used in chronic kidney disease (CKD), given that nephron loss creates a deficit in the ability to excrete dietary sodium, which promotes an increase in plasma volume. This rise in plasma volume is exacerbated by CKD-induced systemic and intra-renal activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system, which further limits urinary sodium excretion. In the absence of a compensatory decrease in systemic vascular resistance, increases in plasma volume induced by sodium retention can manifest as a rise in systemic arterial blood pressure.

DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) syndrome is a severe systemic drug reaction characterized by a latent period of several weeks following the initiation of drug therapy. Among the most well-known causative agents is allopurinol, commonly prescribed for managing asymptomatic gout. Enhancing CFRP damping with graphene nanoplatelets: experiments versus finite element analysis.

This study investigates the enhancement of damping properties in carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites by incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) into the epoxy matrix. Epoxy and CFRP specimens with varying GNP concentrations, were developed and tested through free vibration experiments to measure damping ratios. Additionally, a computational model based on the finite element method (FEM) was developed to simulate the damping behavior of these hybrid nanocomposites.

A germline FLT3 variant in aplastic anemia.

FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) genetic variants are commonly seen in high-grade myeloid neoplasms and are typically gain-of-function mutations associated with a proliferative disease phenotype. Inactivating FLT3 variants have been less frequently described in non-malignant, autoimmune disorders and are uncommon in aplastic anemia (AA). Herein, we report the first to our knowledge, and unusual case of a germline, gain-of-function, FLT3 variant in a patient with severe AA treated successfully with immunosuppressive therapy.
