Background And Aims: Guidelines suggest non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) be conveyed to cardiac arrest centres (CAC). We hypothesised that (a) a pre-hospital conveyance algorithm based on initial presenting rhythm following OHCA is feasible and (b) that would demonstrate survival advantage.
Methods: This observational pilot study included all consecutive patients with OHCA from suspected cardiac aetiology from the county of Essex, United Kingdom from April 2022-April 2023.

Introduction: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is increasingly in demand for treating severe aortic stenosis in a variety of surgical risk profiles. This means increasing wait times and elevated morbidity and mortality on the waitlist. To address this, we developed the SWIFT TAVR algorithm to prioritize patients based on clinical risk and reduce wait times.

Iron regulatory protein 2 (IRP2), a post-transcriptional regulator of cellular iron metabolism has been associated with susceptibility to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Resistive breathing (RB) is the hallmark of the pathophysiology of obstructive airway diseases, especially during exacerbations, where increased mechanical stress is imposed on the lung. We have previously shown that RB, through tracheal banding, mimicking severe airway obstruction, induces pulmonary inflammation and injury in previously healthy mice.

Background: Weight loss after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) demonstrates significant diversity in the long term and the implicated mechanisms behind suboptimal clinical response (SCR) or recurrent weight gain (RWG) need to be scrutinized. This study retrospectively examines weight-loss trajectories, aiming to identify critical time points to optimize follow-up strategies and guide future prospective research.
Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective study of 104 patients that underwent SG.

Objective: The aim of the current study was to examine possible associations between gingival thickness and other parameters, such as crown length and width, papilla height and patient's age and gender.
Overview: This cross-sectional study included 238 consecutive white Caucasian consecutive patients in all stages of orthodontic treatment (before, in-course, and after orthodontic treatment). Measurements of gingival thickness were carried out at both central mandibular incisors, mid-facially on the buccal aspect of each tooth, and 2 mm apically to the free gingival margin, with an Ultrasound device.

Background And Purpose: Patients with active cancer face an increased risk of ischemic stroke. Also, stroke may be an initial indicator of cancer. In patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke treated with thrombectomy, analysis of the clot composition may contribute new insights into the pathological connections between these two conditions.

Background: There is a lack of information on the current healthcare systems for children with kidney diseases across Europe. The aim of this study was to explore the different national approaches to the organization and delivery of pediatric nephrology services within Europe.
Methods: In 2020, the European society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) conducted a cross-sectional survey to identify the existing pediatric nephrology healthcare systems in 48 European countries covering a population of more than 200 million children.

Background: Early life infections (ELIs), encompassing both viral and bacterial types, occur within the first six months of life. Influenced by genetic host factors and environmental conditions, the relationship between ELIs and subsequent allergic manifestations, particularly cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) and atopic dermatitis (AD), is complex and not fully understood.
Objective: The aim of the current study was to examine the potential interplay between nutrition, infections, and allergic manifestations in the first six months of life in infants with a family history of allergies, who were either exclusively breastfed (EBF) or fed a combination of breast milk and standard (SF) or partially hydrolyzed infant formula (pHF).

In Greece, () in dogs, and and in livestock, have been repeatedly reported however only based on morphological identification. Recently, there has been a great effort to accurately identify the species belonging to the species complex, using modern molecular tools and describe their spatial distribution.

Social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and Instagram, host millions of daily users, giving rise to bots automated programs disseminating misinformation and ideologies with tangible real-world consequences. While bot detection in platform X has been the area of many deep learning models with adequate results, most approaches neglect the graph structure of social media relationships and often rely on hand-engineered architectures. Our work introduces the implementation of a Neural Architecture Search (NAS) technique, namely Deep and Flexible Graph Neural Architecture Search (DFG-NAS), tailored to Relational Graph Convolutional Neural Networks (RGCNs) in the task of bot detection in platform X.

During surgical repair of congenital heart defects, surgeons often come across anomalies that might not have been adequately illustrated in preoperative imaging. In this case image, we describe the absence of pericardium which was discovered during surgical repair of a sinus venosus defect in a small child.

Introduction: The increasing adoption of strict vegetarian diets during pregnancy has raised concerns about their effects on maternal and neonatal outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the impact of strict vegetarian diets on key pregnancy outcomes, including neonatal birth weight, small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infants, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), hypertensive disorders, and gestational weight gain (GWG).
Methods: A comprehensive literature search across multiple databases yielded eight studies from various countries, involving a total of 72,284 participants.

β-adrenergic receptors (β-ARs) play a critical role in modulating learning, memory, emotionality, and long-term synaptic plasticity. Recent studies indicate that β-ARs are necessary for long-term potentiation (LTP) induction in the ventral hippocampus under moderate synaptic activation conditions that do not typically induce LTP. To explore potential dorsoventral differences in β-AR-mediated effects, we applied the β-AR agonist isoproterenol (10 μM, 30 min) to dorsal and ventral hippocampal slices, recording field excitatory postsynaptic potentials (fEPSPs) and population spikes (PSs) from the CA1 region.

Introduction: The beneficial role of physical activity on the cardiovascular system has been well established and appreciated. The aim of this narrative review was to present a summary of the latest recommendations for physical activity, and to evaluate the most recent scientific evidence regarding the role of aerobic and or resistance exercise in relation to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk.
Methods: Narrative review; searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar.

Background: The polygenic nature of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) requires the identification of converging genetic pathways during early development to elucidate its complexity and varied manifestations.
Methods: We developed a human cerebral organoid model from induced pluripotent stem cells with targeted genome editing to abolish protein expression of the ASD risk gene.
Results: CNTNAP2 cerebral organoids displayed accelerated cell cycle, ventricular zone disorganization, and increased cortical folding.

Cholinergic transmission fundamentally modulates information processing in the brain via muscarinic receptors. Using electrophysiological recordings of population spikes from the CA1 region, we found that the muscarinic receptor agonist carbachol (CCh, 1 μM) enhances the basal excitation level in the dorsal but not ventral hippocampus. Using a frequency stimulation protocol, we found that CCh transforms depression of neuronal output into facilitation (at 3-30 Hz) in the ventral hippocampus while only lessening depression in the dorsal hippocampus, suggesting that muscarinic transmission boosts basal neuronal activation in the dorsal hippocampus and strongly facilitates the output of the ventral hippocampus in a frequency-dependent manner.
