December 2024

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Medical Physics and Technology, Institute of Health and Medical Technology, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Hefei Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China.

Background: Robust registration of thoracic computed tomography (CT) images is strongly impacted by motion during acquisition, high-density objects, and noise, particularly in lower-dose acquisitions. Despite the enhanced registration speed achieved by popular deep learning (DL) methods, their robustness is often neglected. This study aimed to develop a robust thoracic CT image registration algorithm to address the aforementioned issues.

Serpin B9 is Highly Expressed in Lung Adenocarcinoma and is Associated with Progression-Free Survival.

J Inflamm Res

November 2024

Galactophore Oncology Center, Hefei Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei City, Anhui Province, People's Republic of China.

Background: Serpin B9 is highly expressed in breast cancer, melanoma, and various malignant cells and inhibits NK cell killing through the Serpin B9-GrB axle. However, the current studies have only validated the role of Serpin B9 in vivo and vitro, and lack of systematic studies on the expression of Serpin B9 in patients' tumor tissues and its prognostic implications. In this study, we propose to further validate the role of Serpin B9 by comparing its expression level in tissues of lung adenocarcinoma patients and its correlation with the efficacy of immunotherapy.

December 2024

Institute of Health and Medical Technology, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, 230031 Anhui China.

The intricate expression patterns and oncogenic attributes of COL11A1 across different cancer types remain largely elusive. This study used several public databases (TCGA, GTEx, and CCLE) to investigate the pan-cancer landscape of COL11A1 expression, its prognostic implications, interplay with the immune microenvironment, and enriched signaling cascades. Concurrently, western blot analyses were performed to verify COL11A1 expression in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cell lines and clinical samples.

Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Medical Physics and Technology, Institute of Health and Medical Technology, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, No. 350, Shushanhu Road, Hefei, 230031, Anhui, China.

Gastric cancer (GC) is highly heterogeneous and prone to metastasis, which are obstacles to the effectiveness of treatment. The basement membrane (BM) acts as a barrier to tumor cell invasion and metastasis. It is critical to investigate the relationship between BM status, metastasis, and patient prognosis.

Diagnosis and treatment of refractory infectious diseases using nanopore sequencing technology: Three case reports.

World J Clin Cases

August 2024

Institute of Health and Medical Technology, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Science, Hefei 230031, Anhui Province, China.

Background: Infectious diseases are still one of the greatest threats to human health, and the etiology of 20% of cases of clinical fever is unknown; therefore, rapid identification of pathogens is highly important. Traditional culture methods are only able to detect a limited number of pathogens and are time-consuming; serologic detection has window periods, false-positive and false-negative problems; and nucleic acid molecular detection methods can detect several known pathogens only once. Three-generation nanopore sequencing technology provides new options for identifying pathogens.

To enhance the stability of Raman reporters, these reporters were trapped in a metal organic framework (MOF) exoskeleton that was grown and compressed on FeO@Au core-satellites, producing recyclable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanotags. Furthermore, encapsulation of Raman reporters in the assembled MOF-based nanocomposites was divided into two types of patterns, pre-enrichment and post-enrichment, in order to disentangle chemical enhancement of charge transfer (CT) from electromagnetic enhancement (EM) in SERS. Hence, to demonstrate the effect of encapsulation, a typical non-thiolated Raman reporter, for example crystal violet (CV) trapped in a core-satellite nanoassembly-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) shell, was selected.

Article Synopsis
  • The recent report on room-temperature superconductivity in nitrogen-doped lutetium hydride generated significant interest for its potential technological impact.
  • The results of this claim could not be verified by other research groups, leading to considerable debate within the scientific community.
  • A new experimental protocol was developed, which repeatedly showed a rise in electrical resistance, but suggested that the effect is due to a metal-to-semiconductor transition rather than true superconductivity.

Electronic address:

Glioma is a highly invasive and aggressive type of brain cancer with poor treatment response. Stemness-related transcription factors form a regulatory network that sustains the malignant phenotype of gliomas. We conducted an integrated analysis of stemness-related transcription factors using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) datasets, established the characteristics of stemness-related transcription factors, including Octamer-Binding Protein 4 (OCT4), Meis Homeobox 1 (MEIS1), E2F Transcription Factor 1 (E2F1), Transcription Factor CP2 Like 1 (TFCP2L1), and RUNX Family Transcription Factor 1 (RUNX1).

Mesothelial cells with reactive hyperplasia are difficult to distinguish from malignant mesothelioma cells based on cell morphology. This study aimed to identify and validate potential biomarkers that distinguish mesothelial cells from mesothelioma cells through machine learning combined with immunohistochemistry. It integrated the gene expression matrix from three Gene Expression Omnibus data sets (GSE2549, GSE12345, and GSE51024) to analyze the differently expressed genes between normal and mesothelioma tissues.

Terahertz wave radiation simulation in the Fe thin film.

J Phys Condens Matter

May 2024

School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, Nanjing 210044, People's Republic of China.

Femtosecond laser (FL) induced terahertz (THz) source is a new type of THz source based on injecting FL beams into ferromagnetic thin films by nonlinear effects to generate THz wave. It has a wider bandwidth compared to the traditional THz source, which provides higher flexibility and tunability in the application. In this paper, the three-temperature model and the stochastic Landau Lifshitz Gilbert equation at the atomic level are applied to simulate THz wave generation in Fe thin film induced by FL.

Prior knowledge auxiliary for few-shot pest detection in the wild.

Front Plant Sci

January 2023

Institute of Intelligent Machines, Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hefei, China.

One of the main techniques in smart plant protection is pest detection using deep learning technology, which is convenient, cost-effective, and responsive. However, existing deep-learning-based methods can detect only over a dozen common types of bulk agricultural pests in structured environments. Also, such methods generally require large-scale well-labeled pest data sets for their base-class training and novel-class fine-tuning, and these significantly hinder the further promotion of deep convolutional neural network approaches in pest detection for economic crops, forestry, and emergent invasive pests.
