Pollen grains, in addition to their allergenic properties, play an important role in the temporal and spatial analysis of forensic events and are considered secondary trace evidence. Pollen analysis requires expertise in microscopy techniques and palynology. This study aims to determine the persistence of pollen on common used fabric types and how much of it can be removed through washing.

In response to the World Health Organization's research agenda of antimicrobial resistance in human health, this study appraised the antibacterial and antibiofilm synergistic activity of meropenem and ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) combination against carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of meropenem in combination was found to be ~1/12 of its MIC alone. The results of microtiter dilution assay showed that the combination was more efficient in reducing the biofilm biomass than meropenem alone or ZnO-NPs alone.

The current study investigates the biochemical composition and biological activities of ethanol extract from the fruit body of , marking the first detailed examination of this species. The primary goal was to assess the antimicrobial, anti-biofilm, and antioxidant properties of ethanol extract from the fruit body of against a range of bacterial strains. Conventional microbiological and biochemical techniques were employed to assess the antimicrobial efficacy of the extract and to determine its minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values.

Strong anisotropy exhibited by materials, particularly in their low-dimensional forms, is a highly intriguing characteristic. In this study, we investigate the effects of geometrical potential and thermodynamics on the electronic properties of monolayer monochalcogenide charge carriers. First, the geometrical potential is introduced in a monolayer structure.

A new, sensitive, and cost-effective lab-on-paper-based immunosensor was designed based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for the detection of exosomes. EIS was selected as the determination method since there was a surface blockage in electron transfer by binding the exosomes to the transducer. Briefly, the carbon working electrode (WE) on the paper electrode (PE) was modified with gold particles (AuPs@PE) and then conjugated with anti-CD9 (Anti-CD9/AuPs@PE) for the detection of exosomes.

Aluminum-based metal organic framework composite containing ionic liquid was prepared and used as sorbent for extraction of sixteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in list of priority pollutants of United States Environmental Protection Agency before their analysis by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The dispersive micro solid-phase extraction method, known as a simple and fast method, was preferred as the extraction method. The optimized parameter conditions were 5 mL of sample solution, 10 min sonication by ultrasonic bath, 30 mg of sorbent, 30 °C extraction temperature, 0.

Although there are studies in the literature on the effects of different coloured light-emitting diodes (LEDs) on different organisms, there is limited information on how these effects change with temperature increase. In this study, the effects of blue, green, red and white LED lights on the early development process of zebrafish (Danio rerio (Hamilton, 1822)) were comprehensively investigated. In addition, to simulate global warming, it was examined how a one-degree temperature increase affects this process.

A high-performance and affordable peanut shell-derived biochar was employed for the efficient removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) from aqueous solutions. The properties of peanut shell biochar (PSB) were investigated through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements. The FTIR analysis revealed numerous active sites and functional groups for the binding of dye molecules, while the BET surface area was determined to be 351.

In this study, a novel adsorbent material, poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-N-isopropyl acrylamide) (p(HEMA-co-NIPAM) hydrogel, was synthesized for the purpose of removing methylene blue (MB) from aqueous media. The synthesis of hydrogel was carefully conducted, and its properties were thoroughly examined using techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The adsorption experiments conducted revealed a remarkable affinity of p(HEMA-co-NIPAM) hydrogel towards MB.

Among the different types of phase change materials, paraffin is known to be the most widely used type due to its advantages. However, paraffin's low thermal conductivity, its limited operating temperature range, and leakage and stabilization problems are the main barriers to its use in applications. In this research, a thermal energy storage unit (TESU) was designed using a cylindrical macroencapsulation technique to minimize these problems.

Respiratory viruses have caused many pandemics from past to present and are among the top global public health problems due to their rate of spread. The recently experienced COVID-19 pandemic has led to an understanding of the importance of rapid diagnostic tests to prevent epidemics and the difficulties of developing new vaccines. On the other hand, the emergence of resistance to existing antiviral drugs during the treatment process poses a major problem for society and global health systems.

Prosthetic materials are a source of bacterial infections, with significant morbidity and mortality. Utilizing the bionic "Lotus effect," we generated superhydrophobic vascular prostheses by nanocoating and investigated their resistance to bacterial colonization. Nanoparticles were generated from silicon dioxide (SiO), and coated vascular prostheses developed a nanoscale roughness with superhydrophobic characteristics.

Shallow lake ecosystems are particularly prone to disturbances such as pulsed dissolved organic matter (allochthonous-DOM; hereafter allo-DOM) loadings from catchments. However, the effects of allo-DOM with contrasting quality (in addition to quantity) on the planktonic communities of microbial loop are poorly understood. To determine the impact of different qualities of pulsed allo-DOM disturbance on the coupling between bacteria and ciliates, we conducted a mesocosm experiment with two different allo-DOM sources added to mesocosms in a single-pulse disturbance event: Alder tree leaf extract, a more labile (L) source and HuminFeed® (HF), a more recalcitrant source.

In this research, the removal of boron and arsenic from geothermal water was examined by using novel -methyl-d-glucamine functionalized gel-like resins (abbreviated as 1JW and 2JW) synthesized by the membrane emulsification method. The outcomes were compared with those of commercially available boron selective chelating ion exchange resin (Diaion CRB 05). According to the results obtained with the novel resins, it was possible to reduce both boron and arsenic concentrations in geothermal water by using these novel gel-like chelating resins below their permissible levels for agricultural irrigation (<1 mg B/L) and drinking water (<0.
