Effects of real-time VR clinical practice on reducing the stigma toward dementia among students of occupational therapy: A randomized controlled trial.

Aim: This study aimed to examine the effects of real-time online clinical practice using real-time virtual reality (VR) compared with 2D PC screening on reducing stigma toward dementia, and to investigate the feasibility of online clinical practice using VR.

Methods: A single-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial was conducted. Occupational therapy students were randomized to view occupational therapy evaluation screens for dementia patients using a VR headset or 2D monitor.

Common Carotid Artery Stenosis Degree as a Predictor of Cardiovascular Disease in a General Population: The Suita Study.

Background: The utility of screening for the degree of common carotid artery (CCA) stenosis as a predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a general population remains unclear.

Methods And Results: We studied 4775 Japanese men and women whose CCA was measured using bilateral carotid ultrasonography at baseline (April 1994-August 2001). We calculated the degree of stenosis as a percentage of the stenotic area of the lumen in the cross-section perpendicular to the long axis.

Clinical outcomes of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for resectable colorectal liver metastasis with intermediate risk of postoperative recurrence: A multi-institutional retrospective study.

Aims: Risk-scoring systems for colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) after hepatectomy allow prognoses to be predicted preoperatively. We investigated the clinical outcomes of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for resectable CRLM according to patient risk status, aiming to determine the subgroup of patients who could benefit from neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Methods: In this multi-institutional retrospective analysis, the preoperative risk score was calculated from six previously reported factors: synchronous metastases, primary lymph node positivity, tumor number, largest tumor diameter, extrahepatic metastasis, and the preoperative carbohydrate antigen 19-9 level.

Reduced gamma oscillation during visual processing of the mother's face in children with autism spectrum disorder: A pilot study.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate gamma oscillations related to face processing of children with autism spectrum disorders and typically developed children using magnetoencephalography.

Methods: We developed stimuli that included naturalistic real-time eye-gaze situations between participants and their mothers. Eighteen young children with autism spectrum disorders (62-97 months) and 24 typically developed children (61-79 months) were included.

Methods: This study was a retrospective analysis within a multi-institutional prospective observational cohort study of OHCA patients in Osaka, Japan (the CRITICAL study). The data of adult OHCA patients with medical causes and initial non-shockable rhythm presenting with OHCA between 2012 and 2016 were included in machine learning latent class analysis models, which identified subphenotypes, and patients who presented in 2017 were included in a dataset validating the subphenotypes.

Clinical relevance of a newly developed endometrial receptivity test for patients with recurrent implantation failure in Japan.

Purpose: To assess the clinical efficacy of personalized embryo transfer (pET) guided by a new endometrial receptivity test, ERPeak, in patients with recurrent implantation failure (RIF).

Methods: Recurrent implantation failure patients of all ages at two private Japanese clinics from April 2019 to June 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. The intervention group ( = 244) received pET in accordance with endometrial receptivity testing results and was compared to control group ( = 306) receiving standardized timing, non-personalized embryo transfer (npET).

Methods: Data on 402 patients with GIST who underwent macroscopically complete surgery and received no neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy were selected from a prospective GIST database at the three, participating hospitals.

The Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock 2020 (J-SSCG 2020), a Japanese-specific set of clinical practice guidelines for sepsis and septic shock created as revised from J-SSCG 2016 jointly by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, was first released in September 2020 and published in February 2021. An English-language version of these guidelines was created based on the contents of the original Japanese-language version. The purpose of this guideline is to assist medical staff in making appropriate decisions to improve the prognosis of patients undergoing treatment for sepsis and septic shock.

Current state of pancreas transplantation in Japan based on the nationwide registry.

In Japan, 437 pancreas transplantations (PTx) were carried out between 2000 and 2019. Clinical data for all PTx cases are registered in the Japan Pancreas Transplant Registry of the Japan Society for Pancreas and Islet Transplantation. Here we analyzed the registry data to describe the current status of PTx in Japan.

Amelioration of pancreatic fat accumulation in Japanese type 2 diabetes patients treated with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors: a retrospective study.

Background: Prior reports have suggested that pancreatic fat is related to type 2 diabetes. Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors are expected to reduce ectopic fat accumulation.

Aim: This study assessed the effect of SGLT-2 inhibitors on pancreatic and liver fat accumulations in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: This study used the ORION database with its population-based registry of emergency patients comprising both ambulance and in-hospital records in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The G20 Osaka Summit was held in Osaka City from 28 to 29 June, 2019.

Changes in percutaneous coronary intervention practice in Japan during the COVID-19 outbreak: LIFE Study.

This study aimed to ascertain the influence of the COVID-19 outbreak on PCI practice in Japan.

Methods: In a retrospective analysis of claims data from National Health Insurance and Later-Stage Elderly Healthcare System enrollees in Kobe City, Japan, we examined the changes in PCI incidence before and during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Long-term results of a randomized controlled trial comparing neoadjuvant Adriamycin, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil vs docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil followed by surgery for esophageal cancer (OGSG1003).

Aim: The aim is to report the long-term outcomes of preoperative cisplatin and fluorouracil plus docetaxel (DCF) vs Adriamycin (ACF) for resectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Previously, this trial showed that DCF is associated with prolonged recurrence-free survival (RFS).

Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to two cycles of ACF (35 mg/m of Adriamycin, 70 mg/m of cisplatin intravenously on day 1, and 700 mg/m of fluorouracil infusion for 7 days) every 4 weeks or DCF (70 mg/m of docetaxel, 70 mg/m of cisplatin intravenously on day 1, and 700 mg/m of fluorouracil infusion for 5 days) every 3 weeks, followed by surgery.

Methods: This was a multicenter retrospective cohort study of patients with a body temperature of ≤35°C presenting at the emergency department of 12 hospitals in Japan between April 2011 and March 2016. We divided the patients into two groups based on the point of care delivery: critical care medical center (CCMC) or non-CCMC.

Methods: We undertook a nationwide, population-based, descriptive review of anonymized ambulance transport records obtained from the Fire and Disaster Management Agency in Japan. All emergency patients transported to emergency medical institutions by EMS personnel from January to December 2016 were enrolled in this study, excluding patients who were not transported.
