Aim: Parents' emotions towards a child are extremely important. The Scale of Parent-to-Child Emotions (SPCE) consists of five basic and four self-conscious emotion domains for assessment of parental emotional states. Abridgement of the SPCE is needed for research and clinical settings.

Compensatory gait mechanics in person with multiple toe amputation: A single case report.

This case highlights the biomechanical influence of toe amputation on contralateral limb force elevation, possibly through reduced ipsilateral plantar flexor torque production. These findings provide insight into toe amputation-related compensatory gait mechanics with greater inter-limb asymmetry, which may increase the risk of musculoskeletal comorbidities, including osteoarthritis in contralateral limb.

Prioritization and sequential exclusion of articles in systematic reviews.

It is difficult to match the causes of exclusion among two independent review authors after screening the title and abstract or full texts in systematic reviews. We have proposed the prioritization and sequential exclusion approach to reduce the subjectivity in reporting reasons for exclusion. This approach might reduce the burden of mismatched numbers while describing the cause of exclusion.

The present circumstances of pediatric practice by family physicians in Japan: Cross sectional research.

Background: In Japan, pediatric primary care has often been provided not by general practitioners, but by specialists. Although official pediatric training of general practitioners started in Japan in 2018 no studies to date show the extent to which Japanese general practitioners are committed to pediatric care.

Methods: We conducted a questionnaire survey on pediatric training and current pediatric practice for family physicians certified by the Japan Primary Care Association.

Aim: Although infant crying is a prerequisite for a baby's survival, it often leads to negative consequences for the caregivers. We hypothesized that this would be mediated by a primary emotion that we feel directly in response to an internal or external event. Hence, this study aimed to develop a new scale to measure basic and self-conscious emotions as primary emotions towards an infant's cry.

The NVP QOL Questionnaire: Psychometric properties of the self-report measure of health-related quality of life for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Aim: The Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy Quality of Life (NVP QOL) Questionnaire is a self-report measure of health-related QOL for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. This study determines the best fitting factor structure for the NVP QOL Questionnaire and explores its measurement invariance in terms of observation time and parity.

Methods: A test-retest study of pregnant women was conducted at Gestational Weeks (GWs) 10-13 (T1:  = 381) and 1 week later (T2:  = 128) at one hospital and five clinics with the NVP QOL and the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis and Nausea (PUQE).

Methods: Based on a nationwide survey of 151 patients who underwent PLTE, outcomes of digestive reconstruction methods are described.

Primary care physicians' narratives on COVID-19 responses in Japan: Professional roles evoked under a pandemic.

Background: Within the vague system of primary care and COVID-19 infection control in Japan, we explored how primary care (PC) physicians exhibited adaptive performance in their institutions and communities to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic from January to May 2020.

Methods: Narrative analysis conducted by a team of medical professionals and anthropologists. We purposefully selected 10 PC physicians in community-based hospitals and clinics and conducted a total of 17 individual and group interviews.

Surgical outcomes of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy compared to open distal gastrectomy: A retrospective cohort study based on a nationwide registry database in Japan.

To clarify the safety profile of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG) for gastric cancer patients, the short-term outcome of LDG was compared to that of open distal gastrectomy (ODG) by propensity score matching using data from the Japanese National Clinical Database (NCD). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing distal gastrectomy between January 2012 and December 2013. Using the data for 70 346 patients registered in the NCD, incidences of mortality and morbidities were compared between LDG patients and ODG patients in the propensity score matched stage I patients (ODG: n = 14 386, LDG: n = 14 386) and stage II-IV patients (ODG: n = 3738, LDG: n = 3738), respectively.
