Wild-type p53 functions as a tumour suppressor while mutant p53 possesses oncogenic potential. Until now it remains unclear how a single mutation can transform p53 into a functionally distinct gene harbouring a new set of original cellular roles. Here we show that the most common p53 cancer mutants express a larger number and higher levels of shorter p53 protein isoforms that are translated from the mutated full-length p53 mRNA.

A functional joint requires integration of multiple tissues: the apposing skeletal elements should form an interlocking structure, and muscles should insert into skeletal tissues via tendons across the joint. Whereas newts can regenerate functional joints after amputation, Xenopus laevis regenerates a cartilaginous rod without joints, a "spike." Previously we reported that the reintegration mechanism between the remaining and regenerated tissues has a significant effect on regenerating joint morphogenesis during elbow joint regeneration in newt.

Methods: Of 81 eyes, 42 received 1 initial IVR injection (1+PRN group) and 39 eyes received 3 monthly IVRs (3+PRN).

Gastric inhibitory polypeptide/glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) is one of the incretins, which are gastrointestinal hormones released in response to nutrient ingestion and potentiate glucose-stimulated insulin secretion. Single fat ingestion stimulates GIP secretion from enteroendocrine K cells; chronic high-fat diet (HFD) loading enhances GIP secretion and induces obesity in mice in a GIP-dependent manner. However, the mechanisms of GIP secretion from K cells in response to fat ingestion and GIP hypersecretion in HFD-induced obesity are not well understood.

Background: The cellular N-methyl-N'-nitroso-guanidine human osteosarcoma transforming gene (c-MET) protein is the receptor tyrosine kinase for hepatocyte growth factor. We recently found that c-MET protein expression and activation were enhanced in the majority of small cell lung cancer cell lines with cytotoxic anticancer drug resistance, and that down-regulation of c-MET reduced resistance to these drugs.

Urodele amphibians, such as newts, can regenerate a functional limb, including joints, after amputation at any level along the proximal-distal axis of the limb. The blastema can regenerate the limb morphology largely independently of the stump after proximal-distal identity has been established, but the remaining and regenerated tissues must be structurally reintegrated (matched in size and shape). Here we used newt joint regeneration as a model to investigate reintegration, because a functionally interlocking joint requires structural integration between its opposing skeletal elements.
