Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) has a high mortality rate owing to its late diagnosis and aggression. In addition, there are relatively few minimally invasive screening methods for the early detection of PDAC, making the identification of biomarkers for this disease a critical priority. Recent studies have reported that microRNAs in extracellular vesicles (EV-miRs) from bodily fluids can be useful for the diagnosis of PDACs.

Article Synopsis
  • Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death process, plays a significant role in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, prompting researchers to explore the potential of deferasirox, an iron chelator, as a treatment.
  • In cell cultures and mouse models, deferasirox effectively reduced iron overload, lipid peroxidation, and instances of ferroptosis, demonstrating a capacity to protect heart cells from damage post-injury.
  • The combination of deferasirox and cyclosporine A (CsA) resulted in a synergistic effect, reducing infarct size and improving cardiac remodeling more effectively than either treatment alone, suggesting a promising clinical approach for managing ischemic heart damage.

Mutations in the gene encoding the transient receptor potential vanilloid member 4 (TRPV4), a Ca permeable nonselective cation channel, cause TRPV4-related disorders. TRPV4 is widely expressed in the brain; however, the pathogenesis underlying TRPV4-mediated Ca deregulation in neurodevelopment remains unresolved and an effective therapeutic strategy remains to be established. These issues were addressed by isolating mutant dental pulp stem cells from a tooth donated by a child diagnosed with metatropic dysplasia with neurodevelopmental comorbidities caused by a gain-of-function TRPV4 mutation, c.

Cutaneous angiosarcoma (CAS) is rare and most previous studies of CAS have been small case series, and randomized, phase II studies of CAS are limited. Since treatment options for CAS are controversial, and because only paclitaxel should be recommended based on high-level evidence, it is important to evaluate the efficacy of another taxane-derived agents, docetaxel, in real-world practice. The efficacy and safety profiles of chemoradiotherapy using taxane-based agents, docetaxel and paclitaxel, were retrospectively examined in the maintenance setting in 90 Japanese CAS patients, including 35 docetaxel-treated cases and 55 paclitaxel-treated cases.
