Background: Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare lymphoid malignancy. Systemic profiling of the PCNSL tumor microenvironment (TME) was previously conducted through gene expression analysis. We investigated the prognostic impact of TME on survival to establish novel prognostic biomarkers in PCNSL patients.

Objectives: C-reactive protein (CRP) is a well-known acute-phase protein that increases remarkably under various inflammatory conditions and is elevated in patients with malignant tumors. In this study, we investigated the influence of CRP on the tumor microenvironment in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
Methods: This study explored CRP's role in ccRCC by co-culturing human macrophages with ccRCC cells and employing antibody blocking, RNA sequencing and experiments for functional insights.

Introduction: Cow's milk (CM) is one of the most common food allergens in Japan. The oral food challenge (OFC) of CM is important for the definite diagnosis of children with CM allergy, and it is recommended to be actively and safely performed in individuals with low CM-sIgE levels. This study aimed to investigate the safety of low-dose CM-OFC in individuals with low CM-sIgE levels and discuss the prognostic factors and appropriate approaches for assessing the starting doses of CM-OFC in these individuals.

Introduction: Stepwise oral food challenge (OFC) tests begin with low doses of allergens and progress to full doses. We previously reported the safety and efficacy of stepwise OFC for reintroducing hen eggs. In this study, we discuss its application for cow's milk (CM) allergy.

Purpose: Textbook outcome (TO) is a composite quality measurement of outcomes for evaluating surgical procedures. We investigated whether TO can be used to predict outcomes after curative resection for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in elderly patients.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 105 patients who underwent curative esophagectomy for ESCC from 2005 to 2020.
Background: Neoadjuvant therapy is the standard treatment for patients with locally advanced oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, the prognosis remains poor and more intensive neoadjuvant treatment might be needed to improve patient outcomes. We therefore aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant doublet chemotherapy, triplet chemotherapy, and doublet chemotherapy plus radiotherapy in patients with previously untreated locally advanced OSCC.

Background: Although tafamidis treatment improves prognosis in patients with wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy, an optimal surrogate marker monitoring its therapeutic effect remains unclear. This study investigated the association between changes in cardiac biomarkers, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) during the first year after tafamidis treatment and clinical outcomes.
Methods And Results: In 101 patients with wild-type transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy receiving tafamidis at our institution, change in cardiac biomarkers from baseline to 1 year after tafamidis administration and its association with composite outcomes (composite of all-cause death and hospitalization attributable to heart failure) was assessed.
Cardiomyopathy is a rare but serious complication associated with neuroblastoma. The brain natriuretic peptide level led to a diagnosis of secondary dilated cardiomyopathy before the worsening of heart failure symptoms.

Background: The development and improved response to chemotherapy has resulted in a survival benefit of conversion surgery (CS) for advanced gastric cancer (GC). However, this benefit is limited in some cases, such as in those with very early recurrence (VER). This study investigated the relationship between outcome and clinicopathological characteristics after CS for stage IV GC, and the risk factors for VER after CS.

Background: Total body water (TBW) fraction, which accounts for 60% of body weight, is an important indicator of body composition, and the extracellular water to TBW ratio (ECW/TBW) is reportedly useful in predicting clinical outcomes of patients with organ disorders. We aimed to clarify the clinical impact of preoperative ECW/TBW status on survival outcomes in cancer patients.
Methods: We used a database of 320 colorectal cancer (CRC) patients who underwent potentially curative resections.
A 77-year-old male patient underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy at his family doctor, and an easily hemorrhagic depressed lesion was noted near the anterior wall of the gastric antrum. A biopsy revealed moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma > poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, and the patient was referred to our department for further examination. A 15-mm 0-IIc lesion is seen near the anterior wall of the gastric antrum and narrow band imaging magnifying endoscopy revealed obscured glandular duct structures and corkscrew pattern vascular structures.

Introduction: During an oral food challenge (OFC), there is a risk of adverse reactions, including anaphylaxis. Therefore, the physician should carefully conduct the OFC. This study aimed to evaluate the OFC results in individuals with low levels of egg white (EW)- and ovomucoid (OVM)-specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE) and the safety of a hen's egg (HE) OFC in these individuals.

Gastric adenocarcinoma and proximal polyposis of the stomach (GAPPS) was first proposed by Wothley et al. in 2012 as a rare familial gastric cancer syndrome associated with an autosomal dominant form of inheritance. GAPPS is characterized by gastric basal gland polyposis from the hilum to the body of the stomach.

Objectives: The CD274 (programmed cell death 1 ligand 1, PD-L1)/PDCD1 (programmed cell death 1, PD-1) immune checkpoint axis is known to regulate the antitumor immune response. Evidence also supports an immunosuppressive effect of . We hypothesised that tumor CD274 overexpression might be inversely associated with abundance of in colorectal carcinoma.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) is a rare disease characterized by gastrointestinal polyposis, skin pigmentation, alopecia, and abnormal nailfolds. Although colorectal cancer has been reported in patients with CCS, reports are limited regarding the effectiveness of the usage of image-enhanced endoscopy in CCS lesions. Here, we report a case of CCS in which narrow-band imaging (NBI) magnifying endoscopy was applied to detect an adenomatous component in multiple hamartomatous polyps.

Since the advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors, which modulate the interplay between the tumor cell and immune system, immunotherapy has become widely recognized as a new standard treatment for cancers including microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) colorectal cancer. Immune checkpoint inhibitors such as pembrolizumab and nivolumab (anti-PD-1 antibodies) that act in the effector phase of T cells and ipilimumab (anti-CTLA-4 antibody) that acts mainly in the priming phase are now in clinical use. These antibodies have shown therapeutic efficacy in MSI colorectal cancer patients who have failed to respond to existing standard therapies.

Background Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) infrequently occurs after acute stroke. The Heart-brain team approach has a potential to appropriately manage this poststroke cardiovascular complication. However, clinical outcomes of AMI complicating acute stroke (AMI-CAS) with the heart-brain team approach have not been characterized.
