Aim: The present study examined the predictive factors for the survival prognosis in older adults.
Methods: The subjects were 431 patients (75-99 years old) who visited our hospital between April 2016 and March 2019. Multivariate analyses were conducted to clarify the survival prognosis (P <0.

Devolatilization is an important process for separating and removing unnecessary residual volatile substances or solvents during the production of polymers using twin-screw extruders. Latinen proposed a surface renewal model to determine the concentration of volatile components in the extrudate of a single-screw extruder. When a twin-screw extruder is used to calculate the concentration, it is necessary to use the exposed surface area of the resin in the starved region of Latinen's model, which, however, is difficult to estimate.

The aim of this study is to investigate the usefulness of the anomaly detection method by one-class support vector machine (OCSVM) for the evaluation of mental workload (MWL) during automobile driving. Twelve students (six males and six females) participated. The participants performed driving tasks with a driving simulator (DS) and the N-back task that was used to control their MWL.

Background: Complex factors influence adolescents' attitudes. Secondary sexual development and emotional changes are markers of puberty and affect attitudes toward reproductive health (RH). This is especially evident in the society and culture of Indonesia.

Bursting of fruit is a very interesting biomechanical phenomenon because its mechanism is directly related to the plant's reproduction. A plant that produces fruit that bursts powerfully and spreads the seeds widely has the advantage of reproduction without relying on other mechanisms such as transportation of fruit by insects. The structures of many types of fruit have likely been optimized by evolution, although the structure itself appears rather simplistic.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the outcomes of endometrial cancer patients treated with systematic surgery omitting paraarotic lymphadenectomy.
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a consecutive series of 84 endometrioid-type endometrial cancer patients at FIGO Stage I, II or III without grossly metastatic paraaortic lymphadenodes, who underwent surgery at our institute.
Results: Sixty-five patients (77%) underwent primary surgery with pelvic lymphadenectomy while the remaining 19 patients underwent surgery without lymphadenectomy due to severe medical complications or age greater than 70 years.

Telomerase activation plays critical roles in tumor growth and progression in part through the maintenance of telomere structure. Indeed, the ubiquitous expression of telomerase in human cancers makes telomerase a promising target for cancer therapy. Genetic, pharmacologic, and antisense methods to inhibit telomerase have been described; however, in most cases, cancer cell death was observed only after many cell divisions.

The 3' single-strand telomeric overhang (3'-OH) is a key component of telomere structure. Although telomere length has been well analyzed in a variety of human cancers, no information is available on the 3'-OH length in cancers. In the present study, we examined the 3'-OH length in normal and malignant endometria using telomere-oligonucleotide ligation assay.

Background: Colestimide, a 2-methylimidazole-epichlorohydrin polymer, is a new bile-acid-sequestering resin, that is 4-fold as powerful at lowering low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) as the conventional resin (cholestyramine). Moreover, colestimide has excellent patient compliance because it is available in tablet form.
Methods And Results: The clinical efficacy of colestimide coadministered with atorvastatin on lipid and apolipoprotein concentrations was examined in 15 patients (M/F=10/5, mean+/-SE age=54+/-9 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (FH).
