Aims: Information is limited about the influence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) among Asian community-dwelling populations. We examined the association between nocturnal intermittent hypoxia as a surrogate marker of OSA and the risk of CVD in a Japanese community-based cohort study.
Methods: We used baseline surveys from 2000 to 2008 to study the cohort data of 5,313 residents from three Japanese communities who were between the ages of 40 and 74 years and initially free from ischemic heart disease and stroke.

Exercise increases oxidative stress, leading the body to strengthen its antioxidant defenses, thus reducing the incidence of major diseases. As these associations are relatively unclear for ordinary levels of exercise for reduced stress, this study evaluated the effects of different exercise conditions on diacron-reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs), biological antioxidant potential (BAP), and subjective mood. Forty-nine students (22.

Due to the spread of the western style diet, which is characterized by high intake of processed food, micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) deficiency is increasing in the Japanese population of all ages and genders. During pregnancy, the elevated demand for micronutrients put pregnant women at even higher risk of micronutrients deficiency. Some micronutrients are relatively famous such that women with reproductive age are recommended to take folic acid supplementation for the prevention of neural tube defect.

Background: The relationship between the combination of physical activity (PA) and body mass index (BMI) with low back pain (LBP) is unclear. The present study offers a cross-sectional assessment of how combinations of PA and BMI are related to LBP in Japanese men.
Methods: Participants were 4022 Japanese men (mean age = 47) who underwent regular clinical examinations.

The aim of the present review was to clarify the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and type 2 diabetes, and discuss the therapeutic role of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in type 2 diabetes. OSA patients are more likely than non-OSA populations to develop type 2 diabetes, while more than half of type 2 diabetes patients suffer from OSA. Similar to Western countries, in the East Asian population, the association between these two disorders has also been reported.

Based on the amyloid cascade hypothesis, various strategies targeting amyloid beta protein (Abeta) have been invented for prevention and treatment of Alzheimer disease (AD). Active and passive immunizations with Abeta and Abeta antibodies successfully reduced AD pathology and improved cognitive functions in an AD mouse model. However, active immunization with AN-1792, a mixture of Abeta1-42 peptide and adjuvant QS21 induced autoimmune encephalitis in humans.

Since AN-1792 vaccine induced autoimmune encephalitis, several pharmaceutical companies are now concentrated in developing antibody therapy in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Each antibody has own characteristics. Thus, it is unpredictable at present which antibody is the most beneficial until we see the result of clinical trials.
