The systemic fungal endophytes of the genus Epichloë inhabit the aerial part of host grasses. Recent studies have reported that Epichloë affects the non-systemic endophytic assemblages in live leaves, but few studies that have demonstrated the occurrence of Epichloë and its effect on fungal assemblages in dead leaves. We proposed a hypothesis that Epichloë decreases from live to dead leaves but affects the non-systemic endophytic assemblages also in dead leaves.

Video exposure is known to affect brain function, yet its impact on neurodevelopmental processes remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether exposure to a video depicting social behavior induces behavioral and neurological changes in socially isolated mice. On Postnatal Day (PND) 21, male mice were separated from their dams and randomly assigned to three groups: socially grouped mice; socially isolated mice (ISO), where mice were housed without any social stimulation; and social video-exposed mice (SVE), where mice were exposed to a social video played on a tablet from PND21 to PND56 under socially isolated conditions.

In present investigation, the effort is done to enhance the grain quality in brewer's rice cultivar Yamadanishiki with the plasma treatment of caryopsis (rice fruit) on ripening process. Seedlings transplanted from a paddy field into pots were grown in a greenhouse, and each caryopsis was treated with plasma on 1, 5, 10 and 15 days after flowering (DAF). The ratio of white-core grains to total number of grains was decreased in the grains treated on DAF1, same level on DAF5, and increased on DAF10 and 15, respectively, compared with control grains.

Evaluating whether someone's behavior is praiseworthy or blameworthy is a fundamental human trait. A seminal study by Hamlin and colleagues in 2007 suggested that the ability to form social evaluations based on third-party interactions emerges within the first year of life: infants preferred a character who helped, over hindered, another who tried but failed to climb a hill. This sparked a new line of inquiry into the origins of social evaluations; however, replication attempts have yielded mixed results.

The accurate prediction of vehicle behavior is crucial for autonomous driving systems, impacting their safety and efficiency in complex urban environments. To address the challenge of multi-agent trajectory prediction, we propose a novel model integrating multiple input modalities, including historical trajectories, map data, vehicle features, and interaction information. Our approach employs a Conditional Variational Autoencoder (CVAE) framework with a decoder that predicts control actions using the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and then converts these actions into dynamically feasible trajectories through a bicycle model.

Integrating multiple types of sensors into autonomous systems, such as cars and robots, has become a widely adopted approach in modern technology. Among these sensors, RGB cameras, thermal cameras, and LiDAR are particularly valued for their ability to provide comprehensive environmental data. However, despite their advantages, current research primarily focuses on the one or combination of two sensors at a time.

Background/objectives: Elastography increased the diagnostic accuracy of liver fibrosis. However, several challenges persist, including the widespread utilization of equipment, difficulties in measuring certain cases, and the influence of viscosity factors. A rough surface and a blunted hepatic margin have long been acknowledged as valuable characteristics indicative of hepatic fibrosis.

Maintaining concentration on demanding cognitive tasks, such as vigilance (VG) and working memory (WM) tasks, is crucial for successful task completion. Previous research suggests that internal concentration maintenance fluctuates, potentially declining to suboptimal states, which can influence trial-by-trial performance in these tasks. However, the timescale of such alertness maintenance, as indicated by slow changes in pupil diameter, has not been thoroughly investigated.

This paper studies complexity measures of reservoir systems. For this purpose, a more general model that we call a feature-based learning system, which is the composition of a feature map and of a final estimator, is studied. We study complexity measures such as growth function, VC-dimension, pseudo-dimension and Rademacher complexity.

We introduce our approach to analyzing the entire Protein Data Bank (PDB) by combining state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools. As an interesting case, we report sequence/conformation analysis of Walker-A motifs and β-α-β supersecondary structures with/without this motif. Statistical analysis revealed that Walker-A motifs strongly correlate with β-α-β units having one or two intervening β-strands, while in general β-α-β units tend to exhibit direct contacts between the β-strands without intervening β-strands.

On-purpose atomic scale design of catalytic sites, specifically active and selective at low temperature for a target reaction, is a key challenge. Here, we report teamed Pd and Mo single-atom sites that exhibit high activity and selectivity for anisole hydrodeoxygenation to benzene at low temperatures, 100-150 °C, where a Pd metal nanoparticle catalyst or a MoO nanoparticle catalyst is individually inactive. The catalysts built from Pd or Mo single-atom sites alone are much less effective, although the catalyst with Pd sites shows some activity but low selectivity.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by dopamine (DA) neuronal dysfunction. Although DA agonists and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonists are used to treat PD, chronic use causes severe side effects. Puerarin (PUE) is a natural bioactive compound that affects the DA system; however, its effect on PD-associated motor functions is unknown.

Adenosine phosphates (adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP), adenosine 5'-diphosphate (ADP), and adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP)) play important roles in energy storage and signal transduction in the human body. Thus, a measurement method that simultaneously recognizes and detects adenosine phosphates is necessary to gain insight into complex energy-relevant biological processes. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a powerful technique for this purpose.

In CT-guided percutaneous punctures-an image-guided puncture method using CT images-physicians treat targets such as lung tumors, liver tumors, renal tumors, and intervertebral abscesses by inserting a puncture needle into the body from the exterior while viewing images. By recognizing two-dimensional CT images prior to a procedure, a physician determines the least invasive puncture route for the patient. Therefore, the candidate puncture route is limited to a two-dimensional region along the cross section of the human body.

In human walking, the legs and other body parts coordinate to produce a rhythm with appropriate phase relationships. From the point of view for rehabilitating gait disorders, such as Parkinson Disorders, it is important to understand the control mechanism of the gait rhythm. A previous study showed that the antiphase relationship of the two legs during walking is not strictly controlled using the reduction of the motion of the legs during walking to coupled phase oscillators.
