The intervertebral disc (IVD) is the largest avascular structure in the human body. The cartilaginous endplate (CEP) is a layer of translucent cartilage located at the upper and lower edges of the vertebral bodies. On one hand, CEPs endure pressure from within the IVD and the tensile and shear forces of the annulus fibrosus, promoting uniform distribution of compressive loads on the vertebral bodies.

The gut microbiome (GM), often referred to as the second genome of the human body, plays a crucial role in various metabolic processes and mediates the development of numerous diseases. Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is an age-related degenerative spinal disease characterized by the loss of disc height, hydration, and integrity, leading to pain and reduced mobility. Although the pathogenesis of IDD is not fully understood, recent studies suggest that dysbiosis of the gut microbiome may accelerate the progression of IDD through multiple mechanisms.

As the global incidence of breast cancer continues to surge, the pursuit of novel, low-toxicity, and highly efficacious therapeutic strategies has emerged as a pivotal research focus. Curcumin (CUR), an active constituent of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) renowned for its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor properties, exhibits immense potential in breast cancer therapy. Nevertheless, CUR's poor water solubility, chemical instability, and unfavorable pharmacokinetics have impeded its clinical utilization.

As the largest organelle in eukaryotic cells, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) plays a crucial role in regulating intracellular protein folding, translation and assembly. Multiple quality control mechanisms in the ER ensure accurate modification of proteins in the ER lumen are accurately modified, thus maintaining calcium homeostasis, oxidative stress, cellular senescence and apoptosis. These mechanisms include ER stress (ERS), ER autophagy (ER-phagy, ERPA) and ER-associated degradation (ERAD).

Objective: Prostate cancer, marked by a high incidence and mortality rate, presents a significant challenge, especially in the context of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) with limited treatment options due to drug resistance. This study aims to explore the anti-tumor effects of Xihuang Pills (XHP) on CRPC, focusing on metabolic reprogramming and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway.
Methods: In vitro and in vivo biofunctional assays were employed to assess the efficacy and mechanisms of XHP.

Background: Using Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, our objective was to determine whether there was a causal association between dietary factors and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett's esophagus (BE), or esophageal cancer (EC).
Methods: Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data for eighteen types of dietary intake were obtained from the UK Biobank. GWAS data for GERD, BE, and EC were sourced from the FinnGen consortium.

Observational studies have suggested a positive association between gastroesophageal reflux disease and lung cancer, but due to the existence of confounders, it remains undetermined whether gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has a causal association with lung cancer. Therefore, Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were applied to investigate the relationship between the two conditions. Two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis was utilized with summary genetic data from the European Bioinformatics Institute (602,604 individuals) and International Lung Cancer Consortium, which provides information on lung cancer and its histological subgroups.

Introduction: The pursuit of easy-to-use, non-invasive and inexpensive diagnostics is an urgent task for clinicians and scientists. Saliva is an important component of body fluid with regular changes of contents under various pathophysiological conditions, and the biomarkers identified from saliva shows high application potentials and values in disease diagnostics. This review introduces the latest developments in saliva research, with an emphasis on the detection and application of salivary biomarkers in cancer detection.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is an epithelial malignancy of the prostate that currently lacks effective treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can play an anticancer role through regulating the immune system, anti-tumor angiogenesis, regulating tumor cell apoptosis, autophagy dysfunction, and other mechanisms. This study attempted to explore the active ingredients and potential mechanism of action of the Astragalus-Scorpion (A-S) drug pair in PCa, in order to provide new insights into the treatment of PCa.

Objective: To study the mechanism of curcumol affecting the proliferation and apoptosis of liver cancer cells through the DJ-1/PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway.
Method: HepG2 cells were cultured in vitro, treated with curcumol at concentrations of 10, 30, and 100 g/mL, and DMSO was used as a control. The levels of cell proliferation and apoptosis were measured by CCK-8 and flow cytometry, respectively.

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of moxibustion combined with an ear acupoint pressing bean in the treatment of patients with phlegm stasis syndrome vertigo.
Methods: 60 patients with vertigo identified as phlegm stasis syndrome who were hospitalized in our department from May 2020 to May 2021 were selected and divided into a control group and a treatment group of 30 cases each according to the random number method. The control group was treated with conventional treatment and care, and the treatment group was treated with moxibustion combined with ear acupressing beans on top of the conventional group.

Drug resistance is the major cause of increasing mortality in prostate cancer (PCa). Therefore, it an urgent to develop more effective therapeutic agents for PCa treatment. Xihuang pills (XHP) have been recorded as the efficient anti-tumor formula in ancient Chinese medical literature, which has been utilized in several types of cancers nowadays.

This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of astragaloside Ⅳ in mice with ulcerative colitis(UC) and its effect on the percentage of peripheral blood T helper(Th17) cells. Following the establishment of UC mouse model with 2% sodium dextran sulfate(DSS), mice in the positive control group and low-and high-dose astragaloside Ⅳ groups were treated with corresponding drugs by gavage. Disease activity index(DAI) was calculated, and serum interleukin-17(IL-17), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) levels were assayed by ELISA.

Objective: To observe the effect of acupoint catgut embedding on intestinal mucosal epithelial injury, and expression of epithelial tight junction proteins and mRNAs and protein kinase C(PKC) protein (intestinal mucosal epithelial barrier-related molecules) in rats with experimental ulcerative colitis (UC) of "deficiency-stasis" type, so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of UC.
Methods: Male SD rats were randomly divided into normal control, UC model, medication (sulfasalazine, SASP) and catgut-embedding groups. The "deficiency-stasis" type UC model was established by gavage of adenine (10 mL/kg) for 2 weeks, cold Folium Sennae (10 mL/kg) for 2 weeks, and then enema of mixture solution of 5% trinitro-benzene-sulfonic acid (100 mg/kg) + 50% ethyl alcohol.
