Aim: This study aimed to determine the incidence of occupational accidents among home-visiting nurses from home-visit nursing agencies and relevant factors.
Methods: Data from a questionnaire survey, conducted in March 2020, concerning home-visit nursing agencies were used as a secondary source. A total of 9979 agencies were surveyed.
Aim: This study aimed to investigate the association between work environment and sense of coherence among staff nurses.
Background: In Antonovsky's salutogenetic theory, factors that causes stress are not always harmful when people's sense of coherence is high. Although the effects of sense of coherence have repeatedly been confirmed, few studies have examined factors that increase sense of coherence.

Background: Delirium in patients in the intensive care unit is associated with adverse outcomes. Nurses experience many difficulties in caring for those with delirium, which can lead to nurse burnout, prevent effective care for patients, and negatively impact the patient. The identification of factors creating challenges for nurses is, therefore, important to enable intervention.

Collaborative online international learning (COIL) is an innovative and cost-effective pedagogy to develop cross-cultural awareness through digital technology across shared multicultural learning environments. We implemented our first COIL virtual exchange for undergraduate students at universities in the United States and Japan. We used Padlet for asynchronous discussions to build rapport among students at each institution and Zoom for synchronous discussions to deliver oral presentations.

Background: Increasing need for nursing care has led to the increased burden on formal caregivers, with those in nursing homes having to deal with exhausting labor. Although research activities on the use of internet of things devices to support nursing care for older adults exist, there is limited evidence on the effectiveness of these interventions among formal caregivers in nursing homes.
Objective: This study aims to investigate whether mat-type sleep state sensors for supporting nursing care can reduce the mental burden of formal caregivers in a nursing home.

Purpose: Non-adherence to medication was reported by 28% of Japanese patients with ulcerative colitis, but in the United Kingdom, patients with inflammatory bowel disease have lower medication adherence, which increases clinical relapse risk. The objective of this study was to compare medication adherence among patients with ulcerative colitis in Japan with previously reported results and patients in the United Kingdom.
Patients And Methods: This cross-cultural comparison study investigated medication adherence among 100 ulcerative colitis patients in the United Kingdom and 432 ulcerative colitis patients in Japan.

Aim: To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Japanese version of the Person-Centered Care Assessment Tool (P-CAT-J) in a Japanese long-term care setting.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey using self-administered questionnaires distributed among the nurses or care staff of 2000 special nursing homes randomly selected nationwide using stratified random sampling according to each prefecture's ratio of numbers of facilities. The internal consistency of the tool was calculated using Cronbach's α and construct validity was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis.

Objective: Placenta-derived extracellular vesicles and their cargoes, especially microRNAs (EV-miRNAs), may contribute to fetal and placental development. During pregnancy, the levels of several maternal blood EV-miRNAs, including miRNAs of placental origin, vary among individuals and change throughout gestation. However, the effects of these miRNAs on fetal growth and trimester-specificity have not been fully elucidated.

Background: Low birth weight (LBW) and fetal growth restriction are associated with the development of cardio-metabolic diseases later in life. A recent Mendelian randomization study concluded that the susceptibility of LBW infants to develop hypertension during adulthood is due to the inheritance of hypertension genes from the mother and not to an unfavorable intrauterine environment. Therein, a negative linear association has been assumed between genetically estimated maternal blood pressure (BP) and birth weight, while the observed relationship between maternal BP and birth weight is substantially different from that assumption.

Aim: As the older adult population increases globally, it is important for local governments to measure their health and well-being consistently to effectively support this group. Because definitions of subjective well-being - such as happiness, life satisfaction and subjective health - overlap, it is worth considering which single-item indicator local governments can rely on to measure individual well-being. This study, therefore, explored the correlation between three single-item questionnaires on happiness, life satisfaction and subjective health used in government surveys, and established psychometric scales of happiness, life satisfaction and quality of life, and analyzed which of the three single-item indicators most effectively captured the target well-being.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death globally. Recently, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4i), glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) and sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) were approved for treating people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Although metformin remains the first-line pharmacotherapy for people with type 2 diabetes mellitus, a body of evidence has recently emerged indicating that DPP4i, GLP-1RA and SGLT2i may exert positive effects on patients with known CVD.
