Background: We investigated the efficacy of intra-articular injection of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) progression in the knee joint. Although many experimental studies of hUC-MSCs have been published, these studies have mainly used fetal bovine serum-containing cultures of hUC-MSCs; serum-free cultures generally avoid the shortcomings of serum-containing cultures and are not subject to ethical limitations, have a wide range of prospects for clinical application, and provide a basis or animal experimentation for clinical experiments.

Aim: To study the therapeutic effects of serum-free hUC-MSCs (N-hUCMSCs) in a mouse model of knee OA.

Adenylosuccinate synthetase (ADSS) is highly expressed in BRCA and its subtypes malignant tumors and is associated with poor prognosis. By applying ROC curve, survival analysis, WGCNA, enrichment analysis, Cox regression model and other methods, this study explores the role of ADSS in BRCA and constructs a scoring model.

Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) may be involved in the occurrence, development, and drug resistance of gastric cancer (GC) by regulating autophagy. This study aims to establish an autophagy-related LncRNA (ARL) signature (ARLSig) and explore its immunogenomic implications in patients with GC. The RNA sequencing and clinical data of patients with GC from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, and autophagy genes from the Human Autophagy Database were extracted.

Background: Colonic adenocarcinoma (COAD) is a common gastrointestinal tract tumor, and its occurrence and progression are typically associated with genomic instability, tumor-suppressor gene and oncogene mutations, and tumor mutational load. N6-methyladenosine (mA) modification of RNAs and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression are important in tumorigenesis and progression. However, the regulatory roles of mA-associated lncRNAs in the tumor microenvironment, stratification of prognosis, and immunotherapy are unclear.

The aims of this study were to explore the need for psychological counseling in breast cancer patients before radiotherapy during the COVID-19 pandemic, to distinguish which type of psychological guidance they demanded and to investigate the related factors that could be associated with the need for psychological counseling. A total of 112 eligible patients diagnosed with stage I-IV breast cancer who had received surgery were included. The self-rating depression scale (SDS), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), cancer fatigue scale (CFS), and survey for the need for psychological counseling were completed for all subjects prior to radiotherapy.

Objective: The KEYNOTE-590 trial showed that individuals with advanced esophageal cancer who received Pembrolizumab in combination with chemotherapy as a first-line regimen achieved a significant extension of survival. However, this treatment option increases the financial burden on patients and the economic benefits remain to be further evaluated.

Methods: A Markov model was used to simulate 10-year survival of patients with esophageal cancer from the perspective of United States (US) Medicare payers.

Background: As the increasing mortality and incidence of lung cancer (LC), there is an urgent need to discover novel treatment agent. In this study, we aimed to investigate the anti-LC effects of nitidine chloride (NC), a small molecular compound extracted from Chinese herbal medicine, while detailing its underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Cell viability was detected by MTT assays and five cell death inhibitors, including ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1), Z-VAD-FMK, necrostatin-1 (Nec-1), disulfiram (DSF) and IM-54 were used to explore the type of cell death induced by NC.

Background: Lung metastasis greatly affects medical therapeutic strategies in osteosarcoma. This study aimed to develop and validate a clinical prediction model to predict the risk of lung metastasis among osteosarcoma patients based on machine learning (ML) algorithms.

Methods: We retrospectively collected osteosarcoma patients from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database and from four hospitals in China.

This work constructs an evaluation index system and quantitatively explores the coupling coordination relationship between the tourism development system and the medical services system in China. Results show that the degree of coupling coordination between the tourism development system and the medical services system showed a good upward trend in China during the period 2012-2019. However, the relationship was barely balanced, with tourism development lagging.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one type of malignancy associated with migration and invasion through a currently unclear mechanism. We previously discovered S100A8/A9 levels were roughly elevated in the plasma of NPC patients as the promising biomarkers. However, their expressions and underlying functions in NPC tissues are still unknown.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the female reproductive system. Radioresistance remains a significant factor that limits the efficacy of radiotherapy for cervical cancer. Interleukin-11 (IL-11) has been reported to be upregulated in various types of human cancer and correlate with clinical stage and poor survival.

Our previous studies have initially identified HJURP, which encodes a Holliday junction recognizing protein, as a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) susceptibility gene. In this report, we showed that the HJURP is highly expressed in HCC tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues. Overexpression of HJURP in HCC tissues is mainly due to the hypomethylation of HJURP promoter region.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor in southern China, and nano Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) represents great potential to cancer therapy. To predict the potential targets and mechanism of polyphyllin II against NPC and explore its possibility for the future nano-pharmaceutics of Chinese medicine monomers, network pharmacology was included in the present study. Totally, ninety-four common potential targets for NPC and polyphyllin II were discovered.

Viral myocarditis (VMC) caused by coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection is a life-threatening disease. The cardiac damage during VMC is not mainly due to the direct cytotoxic effect of the virus on cardiomyocytes but mostly involves the induction of immune responses. Integrin CD11b plays an important role in immune response, for instance, in the induction of Th17 cells.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the SNP rs13181 in the ERCC2 gene to see if it's linked to the risk and prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in Chinese patients.
  • Results indicated that while the rs13181 SNP was not associated with an increased risk for NPC, the GG and GT genotypes showed a worse tumor-free survival and overall survival compared to the TT genotype.
  • The findings suggest that while the SNP doesn't affect the risk of developing NPC, it could be a significant factor in predicting the prognosis for those who have it.

This investigation seeks to dissect coronary artery disease molecular target candidates along with its underlying molecular mechanisms. Data on patients with CAD across three separate array data sets, GSE66360, GSE19339 and GSE97320 were extracted. The gene expression profiles were obtained by normalizing and removing the differences between the three data sets, and important modules linked to coronary heart disease were identified using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA).
