Electronic address:

Background: Coproporphyrin I (CP-I), Coproporphyrin III (CP-III), and glycochenodeoxycholate-3-sulfate (GCDCA-S) act as endogenous substrates of Organic Anion Transporting Polypeptide (OATP) 1B and have been considered for application in OATP1B-mediated drug‒drug interaction (DDI) risk assessments. Prior assays of the endogenous OATP substrates might exhibit reduced DDI detection capability and possibly overlook low DDI risk. We pioneered a simultaneous assay of the three substrates in monkey plasma using ultra-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) and applied it to monkey studies to identify lower DDI risk.

The distribution of motor errors can influence optimal motor planning (where to aim). In football instep kicking, it was shown that ball landing locations exhibit the right-up-left-down elliptical distribution in right-footed kickers and vice versa. However, this was reported as a result of mixed multiple kickers; the individual-level error distribution has been unclear.

The amounts of Reactive oxygen species (ROS) become higher by strenuous exercises which consume larger amounts of oxygen in active muscles. Since these ROS directly injured muscles, the high ROS concentration involves muscle fatigue. Thus, an immediate ROS scavenging system in the muscle is desired.

Department of Infection Biology, Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences, Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305-8575, Japan.

RNA methylation adjacent to the 5' cap plays a critical role in controlling mRNA stability and protein synthesis. In trypanosomes the 5'-terminus of mRNA is protected by hypermethylated cap 4. Trypanosomes encode a cytoplasmic recapping enzyme TbCe1 which possesses an RNA kinase and guanylyltransferase activities that can convert decapped 5'-monophosphate-terminated pRNA into GpppRNA.

Article Synopsis
  • TGF-β is a cytokine that signals through SMAD proteins, with SMAD3 playing a crucial role in regulating dendritic cell (DC) differentiation, especially from CD115 common DC progenitors.
  • In normal cells, SMAD3 is expressed but is down-regulated during the development of certain DC types, while SMAD2 remains consistent.
  • Mice lacking SMAD3 showed an increased number of cDCs and related progenitors, suggesting that repressing SMAD3 promotes cDC differentiation by allowing the expression of genes such as FLT3, IRF4, and ID2, with the help of transcriptional co-repressors like c-SKI and phosphorylated STAT3.

We had previously developed a measurement method using an imaging plate (IP) to evaluate and address surface contamination caused by the release of radioactive materials during the Fukushima nuclear accident. The measurement units for the surface contamination density were in relative values [described as relative luminescence levels measured in luminescence arbitrary units (LAU)], but the evaluation was required in absolute values, such as Bq cm -2 , to enable appropriate control of exposure doses. This study establishes a method for converting the IP measurements of surface contamination density due to environmental radioactivity into absolute values.

Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a phosphaturic hormone secreted by osteocytes in response to dietary phosphate intake. An increase in FGF23 level is an indicator of excess phosphate intake relative to the residual nephron number. Therefore, avoiding excessive phosphate intake and inhibiting the elevation of serum FGF23 levels are important to preserve the number of functional nephrons.

In Japan, influenza vaccination is offered to children and pregnant women at clinics or hospitals as an elective, self-funded treatment, as the vaccination is not included in the national vaccination subsidy program. However, some Japanese municipalities offer a discretionary subsidy for seasonal influenza vaccination of children and pregnant women as a local policy. We identified these local subsidy programs during 2019/2020 seasonal influenza season by conducting a cross-sectional survey across Japan.
