It is important to understand the behaviors of fluorescent molecules because, firstly, they are often utilized as probes in biophysical experiments and, secondly, they are crucial cofactors in biological processes such as photosynthesis. A phenomenon called "fluorescence quenching" occurs when fluorophores are present at high concentrations, but the mechanisms for quenching are debated. The Japanese subalpine zone is dominated by an ecologically important forest biome, subalpine coniferous forest, constituting a distinct assemblage of cold-tolerant angiosperm and conifer species. Gall-forming insects induce various types of galls on their host plants by altering gene expression in host plant organs, and recent studies have been conducted for gene expression in galls. However, the evolutionary trajectories of gene expression patterns and the resulting phenotypes have not yet been studied using multiple related species. Electrical integrity and week-long oscillation in fungal mycelia.

The electrical potential of the mycelia of a cord-forming wood decay fungus, Pholiota brunnescens, was monitored for over 100 days on a plain agar plate during the colonization onto a wood bait. Causality analyses of the electrical potential at different locations of the mycelium revealed a clear and stable causal relationship with the directional flow of the electrical potential from the hyphae at the bait location to other parts of the mycelium. However, this causality disappeared after 60 days of incubation, coinciding with the onset of slow electrical oscillation at the bait location, which occurred over one week per oscillation cycle.

Adenosine Deaminases Acting on RNA (ADARs) are evolutionarily conserved enzymes known to convert adenosine to inosine in double-stranded RNAs and participate in host-virus interactions. Conducting a meta-analysis of available transcriptome data, we identified and characterised eight ADAR transcripts in Chlamys farreri, a farmed marine scallop susceptible to Acute viral necrosis virus (AVNV) infections and mortality outbreaks. Accordingly, we identified six ADAR genes in the Zhikong scallop genome, revised previous gene annotations, and traced alternative splicing variants.

Depleting glutathione by xCT inhibition induces iron-dependent ferroptotic cell death, which is suppressed by lipophilic antioxidants. We screened food extracts with xCTKO-MEFs, identifying garlic extracts as particularly potent in inhibiting ferroptosis among the food extracts examined in this study. xCTKO-MEFs can serve as a convenient tool for identifying food extracts that are effective in inhibiting ferroptosis.
