The Neuroplastic Outcomes from Impaired Sensory Expectations (NOISE) hypothesis: How ACL dysfunction impacts sensory perception and knee stability.

Musculoskelet Sci Pract

February 2025

Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute (OMNI), Ohio University, Athens, OH, USA; Department of Physical Therapy, College of Health Sciences and Professions, Ohio University, Athens, OH, USA.

Background: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is integral to maintaining knee joint stability but is susceptible to rupture during physical activity. Despite surgical restoration of passive or mechanical stability, patients struggle to regain strength and prior level of function. Recent efforts have focused on understanding how ACL-related changes in the nervous system contribute to deficits in sensorimotor control following injury and reconstruction.

Sigmoid volvulus during pregnancy is an extremely rare condition that presents as intestinal obstruction and can lead to severe complications for both the mother and fetus if not promptly diagnosed and treated. To our knowledge, this is the first documented case in Yemen. We report a case of a 39-year-old pregnant woman at 32 weeks of gestation who presented with acute abdominal pain, constipation, and signs of peritonitis.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of Traditional medicine preparations (TMPs) given in combination with vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-associated multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) for the treatment of middle to advanced-stage primary liver cancer (PLC).

Methods: This systematic literature survey employed 10 electronic databases and 2 clinical trial registration platforms to identify relevant studies on the use of TMPs + VEGFR-TKIs to treat patients with middle-advanced PLC. Furthermore, a meta-analysis was performed following the PRISMA guidelines using the risk ratio (RR) at 95% confidence intervals (CI) or standardized mean difference as effect measures.

  • Ferric Reductase Oxidase (FRO) genes are crucial for iron uptake in plants, and a study identified and analyzed 65 FRO homologs in four cotton species, revealing conserved functions and structures of these proteins.
  • *The research showed that FRO proteins are mainly localized to the plasma membrane and highlighted their evolutionary patterns through phylogenetic analysis, as well as variations in gene structure and chromosomal distribution.
  • *Additionally, expression profiling indicated that GhFRO interacts with specific proteins for metal ion transport and showed significant downregulation in response to stress conditions, offering valuable insights into iron homeostasis and stress adaptations in cotton.

Background: Quercetin (QCT) is a bioflavonoid derived from vegetables and fruits that has anti-inflammatory and anti-ferroptosis effects against various diseases. Previous studies have shown that QCT modulates the production of cellular inflammatory factors in asthma models and delays the development of chronic airway inflammation. However, the regulatory mechanism of QCT, a traditional Chinese medicine, in the treatment of asthma has not been elucidated.

Introduction Acute appendicitis, a prevalent cause of acute abdominal pain and a common indication for emergency surgery, presents a diagnostic challenge due to its diverse clinical presentation and variability in appendix location and symptoms. Traditional diagnostic approaches, including physical examination, clinical scoring systems, and imaging techniques, have limitations. This study introduces the "Amr sign," a new diagnostic indicator characterized by sudden reflex hyperextension of the neck upon palpation of the right iliac fossa, which is hypothesized to reflect local peritoneal irritation from an inflamed appendix.

When multi-dynamic target UAVs escape, the uncertainty of the formation method and the external environment causes difficulties in rounding them up, so suitable solutions are needed to improve the roundup success rate. However, traditional methods can generally only enable the encirclement of a single target, and when the target is scattered and escaping, this will lead to encirclement failure due to the inability to sufficiently allocate UAVs for encirclement. Therefore, in this paper, a real-time roundup and dynamic allocation algorithm for multiple dynamic targets is proposed.

One Health Index applied to countries in South America.

Front Public Health

October 2024

Graduate College of Veterinary Sciences, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Federal University of Paraná State, Curitiba, Brazil.

Introduction: The One Health concept has proposed an integrated and unified approach aiming for health balance and enhancement by recognizing the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health. The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed global One Health initiatives and policy improvement toward preventive measures for future pandemics, particularly of zoonotic origin. Such a scenario may be particularly relevant for South America, which is considered highly vulnerable due to its natural biodiversity superposed to socioeconomic and environmental issues, demanding effective methods and indicators for proper One Health strategies and goals that are aligned with macroregional contexts.
