The recent rise in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) among children and adolescents led to a thorough investigation of the peculiarities of the cellular infiltrate which characterize the disease at young ages. This review aims to highlight the key involvement of neutrophils in the pathogenesis of pediatric NAFLD and the potential biomarker role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in the same pediatric disorder. Neutrophils, which are first responders to inflammation, constitute an abundant component of an infiltrate which is particularly disposed within the portal area of children with NAFLD.

New citrus pectin derivatives carrying pendant ,-dimethyl--alkyl--(2-hydroxy propyl) ammonium chloride groups were achieved via polysaccharide derivatization with a mixture of ,-dimethyl--alkyl amine (alkyl = ethyl, butyl, benzyl, octyl, dodecyl) and epichlorohydrin in aqueous solution. The structural characteristics of the polymers were examined via elemental analysis, conductometric titration, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and 1D (H and C) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Capillary viscosity measurements allowed for the study of viscometric behavior as well as the determination of viscosity-average molar mass for pristine polysaccharide and intrinsic viscosity ([η]) values for pectin and its derivatives.

Childhood obesity is a major public health problem worldwide with an increasing prevalence, associated not only with metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but also with psychosocial problems. Gut microbiota is a new factor in childhood obesity, which can modulate the blood lipopolysaccharide levels, the satiety, and fat distribution, and can ensure additional calories to the host. The aim of this review was to assess the differences and the impact of the gut microbial composition on several obesity-related complications such as metabolic syndrome, NAFLD, or insulin resistance.

Urosepsis is a significant cause of maternal and fetal mortality. While certain risk factors for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in pregnant women are well established, those associated with an elevated risk of urosepsis in pregnant women with upper UTIs remain less defined. This study aims to identify factors linked to an increased risk of urosepsis and examine urologic treatment outcomes in such cases.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD), along with other neurodegenerative disorders, remains a challenge for clinicians, mainly because of the incomplete knowledge surrounding its etiology and inefficient therapeutic options. Considering the central role of amyloid beta (Aβ) in the onset and evolution of AD, Aβ-targeted therapies are among the most promising research directions. In the context of decreased Aβ elimination from the central nervous system in the AD patient, the authors propose a novel therapeutic approach based on the "Cerebrospinal Fluid Sink Therapeutic Strategy" presented in previous works.

Advanced gastric adenocarcinoma is a common disease with a poor prognosis whose treatment has for decades been based on cytotoxic chemotherapy, including platinum salts in first-line, and taxane or irinotecan in second or later line. Recent years have seen the emergence of new drugs that have improved patient survival, such as trastuzumab in first-line for HER2-positive tumors, ramucirumab alone or in combination with paclitaxel in second-line, and trifluridine-tipiracil beyond the second-line treatment. More recently, two monoclonal antibodies have demonstrated their efficacy in combination with oxaliplatin-based first-line chemotherapy, nivolumab (anti-PD1) for PD-L1 CPS ≥5 tumors, and zolbetuximab for tumors overexpressing Claudin 18.

The discovery of new detrimental effects associated with microplastic pollution is ever-growing and reaching alarming rates worldwide, as it is linked to numerous disorders such as lung diseases, gastrointestinal problems, and cancer. However, a less explored issue is their impact on mental health, more precisely schizophrenia, even though several studies have shown the presence of microplastics in air, water, soil, and even food, thus making them a significant part of our daily dietary intake. It is also well known that declarative memory and anxiety levels are impaired in schizophrenia.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has gained attention in the last few years due to its increasing prevalence worldwide becoming a global epidemic. The increasing incidence of NAFLD and the concurrent increase in the number of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases at a global level is a matter of concern. HCC has several risk factors, of which NAFLD and its associated metabolic disturbances-type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and dyslipidemia-are of great interest due to their accelerating rise in incidence worldwide.

In terms of production technology, metal-ceramic systems for dental restorations comply with a concrete algorithm, the efficiency of which is always dependent on the applications for which they are intended. The first stage involves obtaining metal support, followed by firing the ceramic on the surface of the metal to meet the list of functional and aesthetic requirements of a future restoration. The compatibility of the two materials-the metal component and the ceramic component-must be ensured in several respects: chemical compatibility, thermo-chemical compatibility, and mechanical compatibility.
