September 2024

Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • - Vaccination is crucial for the health management of all animals, particularly in inland aquaculture, to prevent diseases in fish broodstocks and enhance healthy seed production.
  • - In 2020, aquaculture produced 90.3 million tons of fish, but there was a 4% decline in inland aquaculture production compared to 2018, highlighting the impact of infectious diseases that resulted in significant financial losses.
  • - Innovative vaccination methods, such as using autogenous vaccines and incorporating vaccines in fish feed, are being explored to improve effectiveness and reduce reliance on antibiotics, ultimately aiming to minimize environmental contamination.

Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy with a poor prognosis. The accurate prediction of survival and recurrence in UTUC is crucial for effective risk stratification and guiding therapeutic decisions. Models combining radiomics and clinicopathological data features derived from computed tomographic urograms (CTUs) can be a way to predict survival and recurrence in UTUC.

Objective: We described mortality and loss to follow-up (LTFU) in children and adolescents who were under care for more than 5 years following initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Methods: Patients were followed from 5 years after ART until the earlier of their 25th birthday, last visit, death, or LTFU. We used Cox regression to assess predictors of mortality and competing risk regression to assess factors associated with LTFU.

Objectives: Available literature highlights the effectiveness of Acupuncture or Acupressure on the Spleen 6 acupoint ( or SP-6) for pain management in primary dysmenorrhea (PD). The objective of the current systematic review and meta-analysis is to provide an updated assessment of available randomized and non-randomized controlled trials and to compare the effectiveness of acupressure and acupuncture stimulation of among patients with PD.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive literature search on various electronic databases including Embase, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library from January 1990 to March 2023 to identify the comparative studies (randomized and non-randomized controlled trials) that assessed the effects of acupressure or acupuncture on the acupoint in patients with PD.

Harnessing PROTACs to combat H5N1 influenza: A new frontier in viral destruction.

J Med Virol

September 2024

Department of Physics, Bernal Institute and Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre (LDCRC), University of Limerick, Castletroy, Ireland.

H5N1, a highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, poses an ongoing and significant threat to global public health, primarily due to its potential to cause severe respiratory illness and high mortality rates in humans. Despite extensive efforts in vaccination and antiviral therapy, H5N1 continues to exhibit high mutation rates, resulting in recurrent outbreaks and the emergence of drug-resistant strains. Traditional antiviral therapies, such as neuraminidase inhibitors and M2 ion channel blockers, have demonstrated limited efficacy, necessitating the exploration of innovative therapeutic strategies.

In the past few decades, super-specialization has gained popularity in many medical disciplines. It provides professionals with a sturdy platform for advanced research and helps to deliver focused and extensive care in the fields of trauma and critical care, which can translate into good clinical outcomes for patients. Although this drift may bring about novel research opportunities, it may limit the number of doctors attending to the basic healthcare needs of the population.

The current study explored HPV prevalence and age variation in cervical samples of different cytological categories and HPV types from women seeking gynecological care in Tripura, northeast India. Pap smears, cervical tissues, and HPV/DNA specimens were collected from gynecological outpatient departments (OPD) or in-house patients and were screened for HPV16, HPV18, and other HPV types by PCR. Finally, logistic regression was performed to find the association between epidemiologic factors and HPV infection in women of different cytological grades.

October 2024

Department of Pharmaceutics, Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research (DIPSAR), Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research University, Pushp Vihar, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, New Delhi, 110017, India.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a heterogeneous hematopoietic cancer prevalent in adults, has been a leading cause of leukemia-associated deaths for decades. Despite advancements in understanding its pathology and pharmacological targets, therapeutic strategies have seen minimal change. The standard treatment, combining cytarabine and anthracycline, has persisted, accompanied by challenges such as pharmacokinetic issues and non-specific drug delivery, leading to severe side effects.
