Key Clinical Message: This is a challenging case where the surgeon has initially thought it is a gallbladder (GB) mucocele. The surprise finding of a mucocele during an emergency laparotomy highlights the deceptive nature of certain clinical manifestations within the hepatobiliary domain. The intraoperative discovery of a 1×1 cm GB hole on the right lateral wall of the GB fundus revealed an unexpected and significant deviation from the hypothesized pathogenesis.

Monitoring mosquito host choice to identify high-risk groups for different vector-borne diseases is important to devise vector control strategies and disease management. The present study was conducted to develop and validate a PCR-based method to identify human sex in blood-fed Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Several human genes present in both the X and Y chromosomes were screened and diagnostic PCR primers were successfully designed and amplified for the human STS gene.

Introduction: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare intraepidermal blistering disease that is potentially life-threatening due to risk of infection and failure of skin barrier function. The identification of biomarkers has the potential to provide diagnostic utility and identify new therapeutic targets. The objective of this systematic review is to identify all potentially relevant PV biomarkers, categorize them, and identify trends to determine the involvement of T-cell-mediated, B-cell-1mediated, and innate immune-mediated pathways in PV pathogenesis.

Introduction: Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is the most common type of subepidermal blistering disease, usually observed in the elderly population, with a mean age of presentation between 66 and 83 years. BP is a psychosocially ladened disease, with many patients experiencing negative body image, social isolation, and depression. The identification and validation of biomarkers in BP may further the understanding of disease pathogenesis, provide objective measures in assessing efficacy in clinical trials, and identify new targets for targeted therapy.

Integrating health interventions in a growing economy like India, with a birth cohort of 27 million/year, one-fifth of all childbirths, and approximately one-third of neonatal deaths globally, is a challenge. While mortality statistics are vital, intact survival and early preventive healthcare, such as newborn screening (NBS), are paramount. The appalling lack of information about the precise burden of metabolic errors at the state/national level or a mandated program encouraged a feasibility study of NBS in a prospective newborn cohort recruited in Delhi State (November 2014-April 2017) using a public-private partnership mode.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is often considered a 'great imitator' and is the most common form of leishmaniasis. The Leishmania species responsible for CL varies among countries, as these species exhibit specific distribution patterns. The increased mobility of people across countries has resulted in the imported incidences of leishmaniasis caused by non-endemic species of Leishmania.
