miR-590-5p: A double-edged sword in the oncogenesis process.

Cancer Treat Res Commun

September 2022

Department of Zoology, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, 151401, Punjab, India. Electronic address:

Accumulating evidence suggests the critical role of miR-590-5p in various aspects of cellular homeostasis, including cancer. Furthermore, we and others have recently demonstrated that miRNA-590-5p acts as an oncogene in some cancers while it acts as a tumor-suppressor in others. However, the role of miR-590-5p in oncogenesis is more complex, like a double-edged sword.

The hydroamination of alkynes is an atom-economy process in the organic synthesis for the C-N bond formation, thereby allowing the production of fine chemicals and intermediates. However, direct interaction between alkynes and amines is complicated due to the electron enrichment of both compounds. Therefore, efficient hydroamination catalysts, especially heterogeneous ones, are in great demand.

The development of a solid substrate for the support and stabilization of zero-valent metal nanoparticles (NPs) is the heart of the catalyst system. In the current embodiment, we have prepared solid support comprise of alginate-coated cellulose filter paper (Alg/FP) for the synthesis and stabilization of Co nanoparticles (NPs) named as Alg/FP@Co NPs. Furthermore, Alginate polymer was blended with 1 and 2 weight percent of CoNi NPs to make Alg-CoNi1/FP and Alg-CoNi2/FP, respectively.

A simpler approach of functionalization for the fabrication of thiourea-functionalized-Graphene Aerogel (t-GA) is described here. Graphene Aerogel (GA) was synthesized from bio-mass, which on a simpler oxidative treatment get converted to its water-soluble version due to the impregnation of several oxygenous functionalities like carboxylic, hydroxyl, etc. Further, these carboxylated groups have been functionalized with the molecules of thiourea using the long known dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) as a coupling agent.

Class III peroxidases (PODs) are plant-specific glycoproteins, that play essential roles in various plant physiological processes and defence responses. To date, scarce information is available about the POD gene family in soybean. Hence, the present study is the first comprehensive report about the genome-wide characterization of GmPOD gene family in soybean (Glycine max L.

Nanomaterials (NMs) have abundant applications in areas such as electronics, energy, environment industries, biosensors, nano devices, theranostic platforms, etc. Nanoparticles can increase the solubility and stability of drug-loaded materials, enhance their internalisation, protect them from initial destruction in the biological system, and lengthen their circulation time. The biological interaction of proteins present in the body fluid with NMs can change the activity and natural surface properties of NMs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes nitrate levels in water sources in Pakistan, finding significant contamination levels: hand pump (HP) samples ranged from 31 mg/L to 59 mg/L, bore hole (BH) from 20 mg/L to 79 mg/L, and tube well (TW) from 29 mg/L to 55 mg/L.
  • Statistical methods, including Pearson correlation coefficient and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA), were used to investigate relationships among various water quality parameters like pH, electrical conductivity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen in groundwater.
  • Strong correlations were identified between specific parameters: HP had a correlation of 1 between electrical conductivity (EC) and total dissolved solids (TDS), while similar

Article Synopsis
  • Flexible PVC/BT composite thick films were created using a solution casting method, with varying BaTiO (Barium Titanate) volume fractions from 0% to 30%.
  • XRD analysis showed BaTiO particles embedded in the PVC matrix without any chemical reactions, and the addition of BaTiO increased the glass transition temperature of PVC.
  • The dielectric constant improved significantly from 7.6 for pure PVC to 16.1 with 30% BaTiO, indicating that BaTiO enhances the dielectric properties of PVC, making it a potential flexible dielectric material.

Sn-doped BaTiO (BT4) dielectric ceramics were prepared by a mixed oxide route. Preliminary X-ray diffraction (XRD) structural study shows that the ceramic samples have orthorhombic symmetry with space group (Pnmm). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that the grain size of the samples decreases with an increase in Sn content.

Carbon dioxide (CO) occurs naturally in the atmosphere as a trace gas, which is produced naturally as well as by anthropogenic activities. CO is a readily available source of carbon that in principle can be used as a raw material for the synthesis of valuable products. The autotrophic organisms are naturally equipped to convert CO into biomass by obtaining energy from sunlight or inorganic electron donors.

The foraging and consumption of wild food plants is a long-standing tradition in many parts of the world and their importance in promoting food security has become more widely debated in recent years. The current study aimed to document, analyze, and interpret the traditional knowledge of non-cultivated vegetables among four Pathan tribes (Alisher Khel, Hadarzai, Haji Khel, and Umarzai) living in the Gadoon Valley, Swabi District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, NW Pakistan, and to evaluate how these practices vary among the considered tribal communities. A total of 104 informants were interviewed via a semi-structured, open-ended questionnaire and group discussions.

α-Glucosidase is considered a prime drug target for Diabetes Mellitus and its inhibitors are used to delay carbohydrate digestion for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. With the aim to design α-glucosidase inhibitors with novel chemical scaffolds, three folds ligand and structure based virtual screening was applied. Initially linear quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) model was developed by a molecular operating environment (MOE) using a training set of thirty-two known inhibitors, which showed good correlation coefficient (r = 0.

The invasive weed was investigated for its potential as a biomonitor and as a phytoremediator of potentially toxic metals (PTMs) (Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in Peninsular Malaysia owing to its ecological resistance towards unfavourable environments. The biomonitoring potential of PTMs was determined based on the correlation analysis of the metals in the different parts of the plant (leaves, stems, and roots) and its habitat topsoils. In the roots, the concentrations (mg/kg dry weight) of Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn ranged from 0.

Acylated homoserine lactones (AHL) such as N-(3-oxododecanoyl)-l-homoserine lactone (3-oxo-C HSL) and N-butyryl-l-homoserine lactone (C HSL) are the most common autoinducer molecules in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. These AHL molecules not only regulate the expression of virulence factors but also have been shown to interfere with the host cell and modulate its functions. Recently, we reported that 3-oxo-C HSL but not C HSL causes cytosolic Ca rise and ROS production in platelets.

This study aimed to analyse ten trace metal concentrations in the edible part of the freshwater clam and to provide a critical assessment of the potential risks to human health through consumption of this clam as food based on well-established indices and food safety guidelines. The clams were captured from a pristine original site and transplanted to other sites with different environmental qualities. The trace metal levels in the edible total soft tissue (TST) of the clam were below those of the food safety guidelines referred to except for Pb, which exceeded the permissible limit set by the European Commission (2006) and the US Food and Drug Administration/ Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition); Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference.
