Utility of Cardiac Troponin-I in the Prediction of In-Hospital Mortality of Patients With COVID-19: A Retrospective Cohort Study in Central India.

Laboratory tests have been used as prognostic markers in various diseases, especially those with infectious etiology, but the information on the role of biochemical parameters in the risk assessment of patients with COVID-19 is limited. We designed this retrospective cohort study to investigate the utility of troponin-I in predicting the in-hospital mortality of patients with COVID-19 admitted to our tertiary care hospital in central India. We strategically recorded the history, findings on physical examination, comorbid conditions, clinical diagnosis, results of the biochemical parameters, and adverse outcomes (in terms of survival or death) in order to assess the utility of troponin-I estimation done within the first 24 hours of admission in predicting the in-hospital mortality of patients with COVID-19.

Epidemiology of Primary Headache and Its Associated Psychosocial Factors Amongst Undergraduate Medical Students: A Cross-Sectional Study From the Vidarbha Region.

Introduction The present study was carried out to investigate the epidemiology of primary headaches amongst undergraduate medical students by determining the prevalence of primary headaches and their associated psychosocial factors. Methods A cross‑sectional study was conducted at a medical college in the Vidarbha region of India from January 2023 to February 2023 amongst 471 medical students. Diagnosis of tension-type headache (TTH) was made according to the International Classification of Headache Disorders (ICHD-3) criteria.

Otolaryngological Manifestations of Tuberculosis: A Clinical Study.

The aim of this study was to increase awareness of the different presentations of head and neck tuberculosis (TB) and to discuss its diagnostic difficulties. A prospective study of patients who presented to us, at a tertiary referral hospital, primarily with TB of head and neck was done from September 2014 to August 2016. Patients were categarised into proper category of Anti Tuberculous Treatment (ATT) and were treated according to ATT regimen.

Ticagrelor vs placebo for the reduction of vaso-occlusive crises in pediatric sickle cell disease: the HESTIA3 study.

The phase 3 HESTIA3 study assessed the efficacy and safety of the reversible P2Y12 inhibitor ticagrelor vs placebo in preventing vaso-occlusive crises in pediatric patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). Patients aged 2 to 17 years were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive weight-based doses of ticagrelor or matching placebo. The primary end point was the rate of vaso-occlusive crises, a composite of painful crises and/or acute chest syndrome (ACS).

Case Presentation: A 70 year old male presented with history of fall and altered sensorium. Investigations revealed hyponatremia , hypopituitarism and sellar mass.

Esophageal Atresia with Tracheo-Esophageal Fistula Presenting Beyond 7 Days.

Aim: To describe our experience of neonates with esophageal atresia with tracheo-esophageal fistula (EA with TEF) who presented after a week.

Treatment outcome of extrapulmonary tuberculosis under Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.

Background: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) constitutes 15-20% of tuberculosis cases in India. Earlier studies have evaluated treatment outcomes of EPTB with little information on outcomes of individual site of EPTB.

Aims: The objective was to study the outcome of Directly Observed Treatment Short course (DOTS) treatment of EPTB in different organ systems under Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.

Clinical correlation of alteration of endogenous antioxidant-uric acid level in major depressive disorder.

Derangement of antioxidant levels in major depressive disorder had been correlated with oxidative damage. The effect of Selective Serotonin Re-Uptake Inhibitors on endogenous antioxidant uric acid levels in major depressive disorder has never been examined. This was a prospective; open labeled, parallel, 12 weeks study, in which serum uric acid levels and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression score were estimated in age and sex matched thirty-six healthy and forty major depressive disorder subjects before and after fluoxetine and citalopram treatment.

Polymorphonuclear leukocytic sialic acid and sialidase activity in obesity.

The level of sialic acid in the obese polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL) was found to be significantly reduced as compared to normal. Activity of sialic acid degrading enzyme, sialidase, was found to be increased in the obese state. Restoration in both sialic acid content and sialidase activity was also evidenced in the PMNL of treated obese patients.
