The relationship between obesity and the conformational structure of hemoglobin (Hb) has not been extensively investigated. This study aims to elucidate the dielectric parameters that distinguish the Hb molecule under obese conditions and following treatment with goldenberry (GB) extract, compared to a control group. The dielectric parameters analyzed include the loss factor (D), relaxation time (τ), dielectric increment (Δε), relative permittivity (έ), dielectric loss (ε"), conductivity (σ), and Cole-Cole parameters (α), measured across a frequency range of 20 Hz to 3 MHz.

Neuroinflammation is important in the pathophysiology of several degenerative brain disorders. This study looked at the potential neuroprotective benefits of cilostazol, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, against LPS-induced hippocampus damage in rodents and the principal molecular involvement of AKT/GSK3/CREB signaling pathways. Behavioral tests revealed that cilostazol successfully corrected LPS-induced neurobehavioral impairments.

Interest in fruit juice extracts as nutraceuticals is constantly increasing due to their health-beneficial properties, mainly caused by polyphenols. Sugar beverages are discussed as critical in the development of metabolic endotoxemia. Following the idea of a circular bioeconomy, the use of side streams as substitutes for cultivation media (components) in bioprocesses would mean an enormous economic and ecological advantage. Costly compounds in conventional media for the production of the triterpene squalene in thraustochytrids are the main carbon source and complex nitrogen sources. Among other side streams examined, extracts from the spent mycelium of the basidiomycete were best-suited to acting as alternative nitrogen sources in cultivation media for thraustochytrids.

Peach-potato aphids, Sulzer (Hemiptera:Aphididae), and cabbage aphids, Linnaeus (Hemiptera:Aphididae), are herbivorous insects of significant agricultural importance. Aphids can harbour a range of non-essential (facultative) endosymbiotic bacteria that confer multiple costs and benefits to the host aphid. A key endosymbiont-derived phenotype is protection against parasitoid wasps, and this protective phenotype has been associated with several defensive enodsymbionts.
