To explore the impact of score in patients with diabetes peripheral neuropathy (DPN) treated with traditional Chinese medicine package (TCMP) plus red light therapy and lipoic acid on malondialdehyde (MDA), erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (TAOC), motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV), sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV), and Toronto Clinical Scoring System (TSS). A total of 108 patients with DPN hospitalized in the hospital were chosen and divided into groups with the random number table. In the control group (CG) 54 patients were treated with conventional lipoic acid, and 54 patients in the experimental group (EG) accepted TCMP plus red light on the basis of the CG.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated the effectiveness of the ASTRAL scale in predicting patient outcomes after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) affecting either the anterior (ACI) or posterior circulation (PCI).
  • Statistical analysis showed that the ASTRAL scale's ability to predict poor outcomes was similar for both ACI and PCI patients, with Area Under the Curve (AUC) values of 0.768 and 0.773, respectively.
  • The findings suggest that the ASTRAL scale is a reliable prognostic tool for AIS patients after IVT, regardless of whether the stroke affects the anterior or posterior circulation.

This study aims to investigate whether butylphthalide can inhibit ferroptosis and ameliorate cerebral ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in rats by activating the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) / heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) signalling pathway, known for its antioxidative and cytoprotective properties. Middle cerebral artery occlusion reperfusion (MCAO/R) rat models were established. Male rats were randomly divided into five groups: a sham-operated group (sham), MCAO/R group, MCAO/R + ML385 (Nrf2-specific inhibitor) group, MCAO/R + NBP (butylphthalide) group and MCAO/R + ML385 + NBP group.

The weight reduction mediated by anti-obesity medication and the cardiovascular outcome.

iScience

October 2024

Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Peking University People's Hospital, No. 11, Xizhimen South Street, Xicheng District, Beijing 100044, P.R. China.

The association between anti-obesity medications (AOMs) as well as their weight-loss effects and cardiovascular outcomes need to be comprehensively investigated. We searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Center Register of Controlled Trials for Studies, and Clinicaltrial.gov website from the inception to April 2024 and included 129 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of AOMs.

Department of Internal Medicine, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang 050000, China; Department of Endocrinology, Tangshan Gongren Hospital of Hebei Medical University, Tangshan 063000, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to reveal the role of fingolimod (FTY720) in mice with type 2 diabetes-associated cognitive decline and explore its potential neuroprotective mechanism. Mice were divided into five groups: normal control, normal control + FTY720 (1.0 mg/kg/day), type 2 diabetes mellitus, type 2 diabetes mellitus + low-dose FTY720 (0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how different measures of kidney function (eGFRcys and eGFRcr) influence the risk of heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes.
  • It involved nearly 8,000 patients and categorized them into three groups based on the difference in their eGFR readings, assessing the relationship with new heart failure cases.
  • Results showed that patients with negative eGFR differences had a significantly higher risk of heart failure compared to those with midrange differences, whereas those with positive differences had a lower risk, indicating the importance of eGFR in predicting heart-related outcomes in diabetes patients.

This study aimed to validate the predictive performance of ASTRAL and THRIVE scales when used for patients aged 60 years and older with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). All enrolled patients received IVT therapy. The enrolled patients were divided into two groups in accordance with the modified Rankin scale(mRS) score at the time of discharge: good-outcome (mRS ≤ 2) and poor-outcome (mRS ≥ 3) groups.

Article Synopsis
  • Crizotinib, a cancer medication, can harm the liver and its side effects, like liver failure, might not be reported well enough.
  • Researchers found that Crizotinib causes liver damage mainly through a process called ferroptosis, which is a type of cell death.
  • They discovered ways to protect the liver from this harm, like using special drugs and improving a protein called Nrf2, which can help keep the liver safe during treatment.

The prevalence of microplastics in human tissues and their potential reproductive toxicity have been increasingly documented, yet their appearance in the placenta and the impact of microplastic exposure on human fertility and pregnancy remains uncertain. Utilizing an inVia™ confocal Raman microspectroscopy by Renishaw equipped with a detection threshold as low as 0.25 µm, our study examined the microplastics in the placentas of 50 women post-delivery and investigated their correlations with gestational age, and neonatal length and weight.
