Approximately 60% of the adult population experience at least 1 episode of epistaxis in their lifetimes. Because the blood supply of the nasal mucosa ultimately originates from the carotid arteries, acute epistaxis is potentially very serious. Sudden and massive epistaxis is usually fatal, and it is one of the most dreaded complications after radiotherapy (RT) among patients with cancer of the head and neck region.

The differentiation of idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) from other types of dementia is a clinical challenge. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the role of proton MR spectroscopy (MRS) and white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in the diagnosis of INPH, predicting response to therapy and differentiating INPH from other dementias. The study included 18 patients with INPH (Group 1), 11 patients with other types of dementia (Group 2) and 20 control patients (Group 3).

A rare case of leiomyosarcoma in the neck was presented. Several common characteristics of head and neck leiomyosarcoma were summarized in this case: the low-grade behavior of this tumor, the difficulty of aspiration cytology to provide accurate morphologic classification of this like most other soft tissue tumors, the necessity for appropriate immunohistochemical investigation for accurate diagnosis, the nonspecificity of the radiologic findings, the necessity for en bloc three-dimensional resection of the tumor with adequate soft tissue margins that is actually the mainstay of treatment in this type of cancer, and the propensity to metastasize to distant organs.

Traumatic ruptures of the diaphragm occur after blunt or penetrating thoracoabdominal injuries and are one of the most overlooked conditions. Although the risk of death due to rupture per se is low, when left undiagnosed this condition may cause serious complications and death due to gastrointestinal herniation. In this report, a patient with traumatic rupture of the diaphragm who presented with signs of intestinal obstruction is reported.

Background: In the pathogenesis of urethral stricture, fibrosis is associated with an excessive collagen increase. After the recognition that topical application of Mitomycin-C (MMC) inhibits fibroblast proliferation and is effective in preventing scar formation, many studies have been carried out on this subject outside the scope of urology.
