Comparison of the BIG Score and Pediatric Trauma Score for Predicting Mortality.

Objectives: The BIG score (base deficit + [2.5 × international normalized ratio] + [15 - Glasgow Coma Score]) was compared with the Pediatric Trauma Score (PTS) for predicting mortality in pediatric patients with multiple trauma.

Methods: This retrospective, single-center study included 318 consecutive pediatric patients (aged 1-18 years) with multiple trauma who were admitted to the emergency department between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2023.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Portal Vein Diameter and Colorectal Liver Metastases on Computed Tomography.

Background/aim: The most common and often first metastatic site of colorectal cancer (CRC) is the liver, and radiological modalities have a critical role in the diagnosis of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM). In this study, the possible relationship between portal vein diameter, number of metastases, and metastasis diameter was evaluated in CRLM patients who underwent computed tomography (CT) examination with intravenous contrast (IV).

Patients And Methods: Cases diagnosed with CRLM who underwent abdominal CT examination with IV contrast between December 2020 and January 2024 were retrospectively scanned.

Evaluation and follow-up of patients diagnosed with hypophysitis: a cohort study.

Objective: Primary hypophysitis might be challenging to diagnose, and there is a lack of evidence regarding optimal treatment strategies due to rarity of the disease. We aim to investigate the clinical features and compare the outcomes of different management strategies of primary hypophysitis in a large group of patients recruited on a nationwide basis.

Design: A retrospective observational study.

Trocar-site Herniation after Laparoscopic Myomectomy via Culdotomy Extraction.

Trocar-site hernia is a rare and life-threatening complication of laparoscopic abdominal surgery; 5-mm trocar-site bowel herniation is rarer than ≥ 10-mm trocar-site herniation. We present a 41-year-old female patient on the postoperative 6 day with laparoscopic myomectomy admitted to our emergency department with severe vomiting and nausea. At the end of the evaluations, she was diagnosed with 5-mm trocar-site small bowel herniation.

An analytic cross-sectional study of Somali women on the sexual and psychosocial status during pregnancy.

Background: Pregnancy is associated with physical, psychological, hormonal, and social alterations that may lead to detrimental effects on sexual function and psychological well-being. This study sought to examine sexual function and psychosocial well-being of pregnant women in Somalia in comparison with their non-pregnant counterparts.

Methods: We enrolled 487 consecutive women in monogamous marriages.

Base excess is superior to creatinine in predicting haemodialysis: A multicenter study conducted Kahramanmaraş earthquake victims.

Purpose: This study had two main goals: to determine which rhabdomyolysis patients need haemodialysis; and to highlight the significance of blood gas parameters, particularly base excess, as predictors of the need for haemodialysis.

Method: A total of 270 patients were included in this multicentre, retrospective study. Among the patients who were transferred in from the earthquake region and developed rhabdomyolysis, those with creatine kinase (CK) values >1000 U/L were included in our study.

Loss of symmetric cell division of apical neural progenitors drives DENND5A-related developmental and epileptic encephalopathy.

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs) feature altered brain development, developmental delay and seizures, with seizures exacerbating developmental delay. Here we identify a cohort with biallelic variants in DENND5A, encoding a membrane trafficking protein, and develop animal models with phenotypes like the human syndrome. We demonstrate that DENND5A interacts with Pals1/MUPP1, components of the Crumbs apical polarity complex required for symmetrical division of neural progenitor cells.

Effect of Follicular T Helper and T Helper 17 Cells-Related Molecules on Disease Severity in Patients with Myasthenia Gravis.

Introduction: Contribution of T helper 1 and 2 cells-related cytokines to pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis (MG) is well known. Recently, the contribution of follicular T helper (Tfh) and T helper 17 cells-related molecules to the pathogenesis has gained importance. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the changes in Tfh- and Th17-related molecules before and after rescue therapy in patients with myasthenic crisis (cMG) and to reveal the molecular differences between stable MG and cMG patients.

The use of incisional negative pressure wound therapy on high-risk breast cancer mastectomy patients.

Background: The main complications seen in patients who have undergone modified radical mastectomy (MRM) are seroma, surgical site infection, hematoma, wound dehiscence, flap necrosis, and nerve damage. While these complications lead to some problems the most feared effect in the early period is that they cause a delay in adjuvant treatment. Incisional Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (iNPWT) decreases wound dehiscence by reducing oedema and tension, especially in the incision line.

Technology Addiction and Social Connectedness in Psychiatric Illness: A Multicenter Study.

Objective: Technology addiction is an increasingly important public health problem all over the world that negatively affects people's mental and physical health. In this study, we examined technology addiction and social connectedness levels of psychiatric patients who admitted to clinics in different geographical regions of Turkey.

Methods: A total of 642 people with a diagnosis of psychiatric illness who applied to psychiatry clinics in İstanbul, Elaziğ, Malatya, Yozgat, Adıyaman, and Bingöl provinces were included.

A cross sectional study evaluating the relationship of acne to androgenetic alopecia subtype and severity.

The circulating androgens have a role in the pathogenesis of both acne vulgaris and androgenetic alopecia; an association between these two have been found previously. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship of the severity of acne vulgaris lesions to the subtype of AGA; and to validate the relationship between severities of acne vulgaris and AGA. This study was conducted cross-sectionally at five different dermatology clinics.

Increased Hyperactivity with Decreased Parental Perceived Social Support Among Turkish Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder during Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic.

Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate the change in emotional/behavioral problems of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the perceived social support of parents during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Methods: A total of 51 children with ASD aged between 6 and 18 years took part in the study. The Aberrant Behavior Checklist (ABC), the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) were used to evaluate ASD symptoms, emotional/behavioral problems, and perceived social support, respectively.

The effect of adipose tissue-derived stromal vascular fraction/gel material on wound healing in a rat model of nasal mucosa injury.

Background: Stromal Vascular fraction/gel (SVF/gel) is prepared mechanically from autologous adipose tissue, and it is known for its regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties.

Aims: To assess histopathological effects of adipose tissue-derived SVF/gel and nasal steroids on nasal mucosal healing.

Material And Methods: Forty-two Wistar Albino rats with right nasal mucosal injury were randomly divided into three groups: control (saline), Mometasone Furoate (MF), and SVF/gel.

Proprioceptive and clinical outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with remnant tissue preservation technique: A comparison according to the preserved tissue length.

Background: No consensus is obtained regarding the effects of remnant-preserving ACL reconstruction on long-term clinical and proprioceptive outcomes. This study aimed to compare proprioceptive and clinical outcomes of the knee joint after ACL reconstruction with two different lengths of preserved remnant tissue.

Methods: This study included 61 patients who underwent single-bundle ACL reconstruction with remnant preservation method using hamstring autograft, divided into two groups according to the length of the remnant tissue.

Serum cholesterol levels and Parkinson's disease: a detailed investigation in Turkish population.

Objectives: Parkinson's disease (PD) involves the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons and the accumulation of α-synuclein. Elevated cholesterol levels may exacerbate α-synuclein aggregation, potentially contributing to PD. This study investigates the link between lipid profiles and PD severity, as well as cognitive functions in patients, aiming to inform pathogenesis and management strategies.

Prospective evaluation of ultrasonographic fetal cardiac morphometry and functions in the third trimester of pregnancies with gestational diabetes mellitus.

Objective: This study aimed to compare cardiac morphological and functional changes in fetuses of patients with diet-regulated gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM-A1), insulin-regulated GDM (GDM-A2), and a control group.

Method: A prospective cohort study included pregnant women aged 18-40 years with singleton pregnancies. Fetal biometric, cardiac morphological, and functional measurements were recorded using Z-scores at 34-37 weeks of gestation.

Comparison of optical coherence tomography angiography results in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis who underwent carotid artery stenting and carotid endarterectomy.

It is important to examine the ocular hemodynamic changes after carotid artery stenting (CAS) and carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS). We aimed to compare the differences in retinal and optic nerve head blood flow after 2 surgical methods. The ipsilateral eyes of 34 patients who had over 50% ICAS with no ocular findings and 30 healthy controls were included in the study.
