The effect of bioelectric impedance analysis on the success of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

Bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) is a non-invasive method that can show the distribution of fatty and lean mass of the body. In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of BIA on extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) success. Our secondary aim was to determine the factors predicting transition from a single SWL session to multiple sessions.

Epidemiological characteristics of different types of adult acne in Turkey: a prospective, controlled, multicenter study.

Introduction: Acne occurring in adults over the age of 25 years is known as acne tarda or adult acne. Three types of adult acne are recognized: persistent, late-onset, and recurrent acne. Most studies do not compare the characteristics between the three variants.

Validity, reliability and minimal detectable change of Mini-BESTest Turkish version in neurological disorders.

Aims: It is aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of Mini-BESTestTR in Turkish patients with neurological disorders.

Methods: A total of 61 people between the ages of 42 and 80, who were patients with Parkinson's disease, stroke or multiple sclerosis for more than 1 year, were included in the study. For inter-rater reliability, two independent researchers applied the scale two times within 5 days for test-retest reliability.

Immediate histopathologic correlation in Turkish population with negative cytology and high-risk human papillomavirus positivity: A retrospective analysis of high-risk human papillomavirus genotype and stratified by age.

Introduction: According to the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) recommendations, regardless of age, women with high-risk infections other than human papillomavirus 16/18 positivity (other hrHPV) and negative cytology should not be referred directly to colposcopy. Several studies compared detection rates of ≥high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) between HPV 16/18 ± 45, and other hrHPV types on colposcopic biopsy.

Methods: We designed a retrospective study to determine the presence of ≥HSIL in colposcopic biopsy in women with negative cytology and hrHPV positivity during the years 2016-2022.

Aesthetic corneal tattooing/keratopigmentation using tattoo pen machine: choosing suitable method and color.

Purpose: This article aims to present the corneal tattooing method and how using a tattoo pen machine can improve aesthetic appearance in patients with corneal leukoma.

Methods: In this study, 42 patients were evaluated who had no visual potential and who had undergone colored corneal tattooing using an automatic tattoo pen machine for aesthetic purposes. The procedure was conducted according to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.

Programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression in desmoid tumors: a retrospective study.

Objective: Desmoid tumor is a rare benign but locally aggressive monoclonal and fibroblastic proliferation. It lacks metastatic potential but is associated with a high local recurrence after surgery. It is either characterized by the Beta-catenin gene (CTNNB1) or the adenomatous polyposis coli gene (APC) mutation.

Unilateral accessory scapular ossicle with sprengel deformity in a trauma patient: A case report.

Herein we present a rare anatomic variation of unilateral accessory scapular ossicle in a trauma patient and its rare association with a common scapular anomaly, Sprengel deformity. Foci that appear near the inferior angle of the scapula due to failure of bony fusion during bone maturation are called accessory scapular ossicles. Sprengel deformity is defined as the congenitally high position of the scapula.

Pectoralis muscle area measured at T4 level is closely associated with adverse COVID-19 outcomes in hospitalized patients.

Objectives: Skeletal muscle area (SMA) at T4 level on chest computed tomography (CT) is a newly available method that can be used as a surrogate sarcopenia marker. The objective of this study is to evaluate association of SMA with adverse COVID-19 outcomes in hospitalized patients.

Methods: Hospitalized COVID-19 patients were prospectively recorded in a database containing age, gender, date of admission, date of outcome (discharge, mortality, presence of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, additional coding information (comorbidities, superimposed conditions).

A clinical overview of paediatric sarcoidosis: Multicentre experience from Turkey.

Objectives: We aimed to outline the demographic data, clinical spectrum, and treatment approach of sarcoidosis in a large group of patients and sought to figure out the variations of early-onset (EOS) and late-onset paediatric sarcoidosis (LOS).

Methods: The study followed a retrospective-descriptive design, with the analysis of medical records of cases diagnosed as paediatric sarcoidosis.

Results: Fifty-two patients were included in the study.

Relationship between the insulin use and stigma in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between insulin use and stigma in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: The study was carried out in the endocrinology and metabolic disorders outpatient clinic of a state hospital between February and October 2022. The study was carried out with 154 patients, 77 of them were treated with insulin while 77 were treated with peroral antidiabetic drugs (PAD).

Factors affecting formula compliance of infants with IgE mediated cow's milk protein allergy during the pandemic.

Introduction: Cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA) is the most commonly encountered food allergy in the world, usually seen in infants under the age of 2 years. This study aims to determine the factors including COVID-19 affecting formula compliance of CMPA patients.

Methods: This study is a prospective, observational study based on 10 different Paediatric Allergy-Immunology clinics in Turkey.

WDR31 displays functional redundancy with GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) ELMOD and RP2 in regulating IFT complex and recruiting the BBSome to cilium.

The correct intraflagellar transport (IFT) assembly at the ciliary base and the IFT turnaround at the ciliary tip are key for the IFT to perform its function, but we still have poor understanding about how these processes are regulated. Here, we identify WDR31 as a new ciliary protein, and analysis from zebrafish and reveals the role of in regulating the cilia morphology. We find that loss of WDR-31 together with RP-2 and ELMD-1 (the sole ortholog ELMOD1-3) results in ciliary accumulations of IFT Complex B components and KIF17 kinesin, with fewer IFT/BBSome particles traveling along cilia in both anterograde and retrograde directions, suggesting that the IFT/BBSome entry into the cilia and exit from the cilia are impacted.

Identification of protein-protein interaction bridges for multiple sclerosis.

Motivation: Identifying and prioritizing disease-related proteins is an important scientific problem to develop proper treatments. Network science has become an important discipline to prioritize such proteins. Multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease for which there is still no cure, is characterized by a damaging process called demyelination.

Caudal epidural steroid injection versus transforaminal ESI for unilateral S1 radiculopathy: a prospective, randomized trial.

Comparison of the Clinical Performance of Aptima HPV Assay and the Cobas 4800 Platform in Women with Normal Cytology and Positive High-Risk HPV.

Introduction: According to the current American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) guidelines, patients with normal cytology results may be referred for colposcopy according to their high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) test results. A higher positive predictive value (PPV) of hrHPV has significance for preventing unnecessary colposcopic examinations. Several studies have compared the performance of the Aptima assay and the Cobas 4800 platform among patients who had minor cytologic abnormalities.

New Classification of Benign Epithelial Tumors: Colorectal Polyps and Synchronous Neoplasms: An Update and Critical Assessment: An Analysis of 678 Consecutive Cases and 1137 Polyps.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate of colorectal high-risk polyps and synchronized neoplasms and carcinomas with anatomical localization and demographic characteristics.

Methods: Between July 1, 2018 and July 1, 2022, 1137 polypectomy materials of 678 consecutive patients who were diagnosed in the pathology department and underwent total colonoscopy were included in the study. All epithelial polyps were re-classified according to the World Health Organization classification of digestive system tumors-2019, 5 edition.

Comparison of Medical Treatments According to the Characteristics of Idiopathic Premature Ventricular Contractions: Beta-blockers or Calcium Channel Blockers?

Objective: Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) are a common arrhythmic condition. The first approach in patients with symptomatic and frequent PVC is medical treatment, primarily beta-blockers (BB) or calcium channel blockers (CCB), but it is still unclear which of the two should be chosen. This study investigated which drug treatment would be beneficial according to patient and electrocardiography (ECG) characteristics in patients with idiopathic PVC.

Early assessment of extremity compartment syndrome by biochemical markers in a rat model.

Background: This experimental study aimed to define a biochemical marker that will enable early diagnosis of acute compartment syndrome (ACS) of extremities, a mortal condition that occurs due to trauma.

Methods: A total of 15 Wistar rats were included in the study in which saline infusion technique, a clinically compatible ACS model, was applied. After the rats were anesthetized with ketamine-xylazine, the in-compartment pressure of the hind limb was slowly increased with saline delivered through the angiocatheter, and after reaching the target compartment pressure, the pressure level was kept with a rubber tourniquet.
