Steviol glycosides (SGs) are noncaloric natural sweeteners found in the leaves of stevia (). These diterpene glycosides are biosynthesized by attaching varying numbers of monosaccharides, primarily glucose, to steviol aglycone. Rebaudioside (Reb) D and Reb M are highly glucosylated SGs that are valued for their superior sweetness and organoleptic properties, yet they are present in limited quantities in stevia leaves.

Although the volatile compounds present in green and roasted coffee beans have been extensively described, no study has yet linked varietal molecular differences to the greater abundance of specific substances and support the aroma specificity of specialty coffees.
Results: This study compared four Arabica genotypes including one, Geisha Especial, suggested to generate specialty coffee.

Of the more than 100 families of glycosyltransferases, family 1 glycosyltransferases catalyze glycosylation using uridine diphosphate (UDP)-sugar as a sugar donor and are thus referred to as UDP-sugar:glycosyl transferases. The blue color of the Nemophila menziesii flower is derived from metalloanthocyanin, which consists of anthocyanin, flavone, and metal ions. Alkali metal (AM) intercalation between graphene layers holds promise for electronic manipulation and energy storage, yet the underlying mechanism remains challenging to fully comprehend despite extensive research. In this study, we employ low-voltage scanning transmission electron microscopy (LV-STEM) to visualize the atomic structure of intercalated AMs (potassium, rubidium, and cesium) in bilayer graphene (BLG). Our findings reveal that the intercalated AMs adopt bilayer structures with hcp stacking, and specifically a CMC composition.

Osteophytes in osteoarthritis (OA) joints contribute to restriction of joint movement, joint pain, and OA progression, but little is known about osteophyte regulators. Examination of gene expression related to cartilage extracellular matrix, endochondral ossification, and growth factor signaling in articular cartilage and osteophytes obtained from OA knee joints showed that several genes such as COL1A1, VCAN, BGLAP, BMP8B, RUNX2, and SOST were overexpressed in osteophytes compared with articular cartilage. Ratios of mesenchymal stem/progenitor cells, which were characterized by co-expression of CD105 and CD166, were significantly higher in osteophytic cells than articular cells.

Mead acid (MA, 5,8,11-eicosatrienoic acid) is an n-9 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and a marker of essential fatty acid deficiency, but nonetheless generally draws little attention. MA is distributed in various normal tissues and can be converted to several specific lipid mediators by lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase. Recent pathological and epidemiological studies on MA raise the possibility of its effects on inflammation, cancer, dermatitis and cystic fibrosis, suggesting it is an endogenous multifunctional PUFA.

Apiose is a unique branched-chain pentose found in plant glycosides and a key component of the cell wall polysaccharide pectin and other specialized metabolites. More than 1,200 plant-specialized metabolites contain apiose residues, represented by apiin, a distinctive flavone glycoside found in celery (Apium graveolens) and parsley (Petroselinum crispum) in the family Apiaceae. The physiological functions of apiin remain obscure, partly due to our lack of knowledge on apiosyltransferase during apiin biosynthesis.
