The ligand and the strain near the active sites in catalysts jointly affect the electrocatalytic activity for the catalytic industry. In many cases, there is no effective strategy for the independent study of the strain effect without the ligand effect on the electrocatalytic activity for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Laser shock peening (LSP) with a GW cm level power density and a 10-30 ns short pulse is employed to form compressive strain on the surface and in the depth direction of a platinum (Pt) plate, which changes the inherent interatomic distance and modifies the energy level of the bonded electrons, thereby greatly optimizing the energy barrier for the HER.

In this study, the W (10-20%)-Cu composites were simultaneously fabricated using commercial, graded commercial, and graded jet-milled W powder. The results show that the W-Cu composites prepared with the graded jet-milled W powders have the highest density and best comprehensive performance due to the combined effect of the particle gradation and jet-milling treatment. Particle gradation is employed to increase the packing density of powders, thereby increasing the relative density of the compressed W skeleton, and the rounded powder with narrow particle size distribution after jet-milling treatment is used to reduce the enclosed pores formed during the process of compacting and infiltration.

Effect of sPP Content on Electrical Tree Growth Characteristics in PP-Blended Cable Insulation.

Materials (Basel)

November 2020

School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Tianjin University, Tianjin 300072, China.

This paper aims at investigating the electrical tree characteristics of isotactic polypropylene (iPP)/syndiotactic polypropylene (sPP) blends for thermoplastic cable insulation. PP blended samples with sPP contents of 0, 5, 15, 30, and 45 wt% are prepared, and electrical treeing experiments are implemented under alternating current (AC) voltage at 50, 70, and 90 °C. Experimental results show that with the incorporation of sPP increasing to 15 wt%, the inception time of electrical tree increases by 8.

Magnetostrictive Properties of the Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel Sheet under DC-Biased and Multisinusoidal Magnetizations.

Materials (Basel)

July 2019

Hebei Provincial Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic & Structural Performance of Power Transmission and Transformation Equipment, Baoding 071056, China.

As an intrinsic property, elasticity of soft material is affected significantly by the externally applied alternating magnetic field. Magnetostrictive properties of the grain-oriented (GO) silicon steel under DC-biased and multisinusoidal magnetizations are measured by using a laser-based measuring system. Magnetostriction curves of the GO silicon steel sheet under different magnetizations are obtained and the influence of frequency and DC bias on the magnetostrictive property is observed and analyzed based on the measured data.

Creeping flashover of mineral-oil-impregnated pressboard under impulse stress is a common insulating failure in oil-immersed transformers, arousing increasing attention. Recent studies have shown that the breakdown strength of transformer oil under positive lightning impulse voltage can be significantly improved through nanoparticles-based modification, and Fe₃O₄ has shown the best improvement in breakdown strength compared to other nanoparticles that have been used. This paper presents the creeping flashover characteristics of pure oil-impregnated pressboard (OIP) and nanofluid-impregnated pressboard (NIP) based on Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles under positive and negative lightning impulse voltages, respectively.

Dielectric energy storage capacitors have advantages such as ultra-high power density, extremely fast charge and discharge speed, long service lifespan and are significant for pulsed power system, smart power grid, and power electronics. Polypropylene (PP) is one of the most widely used dielectric materials for dielectric energy storage capacitors. It is of interest to investigate how to improve its electrical breakdown strength by nanodoping and the influencing mechanism of nanodoping on the electrical breakdown properties of polymer nanocomposites.

Intercalation Pseudocapacitance Boosting Ultrafast Sodium Storage in Prussian Blue Analogs.

ChemSusChem

June 2019

State Key Laboratory of Silicon Materials, Key Laboratory of Novel Materials for Information Technology of Zhejiang Province and School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310027, P. R. China.

Great expectation is placed on sodium-ion batteries with high rate capability to satisfy multiple requirements in large-scale energy storage systems. However, the large ionic radius and high mass of Na hamper its kinetics in the case of diffusion-controlled mechanisms in conventional electrodes. In this study, a unique intercalation pseudocapacitance has been demonstrated in low-vacancy copper hexacyanoferrate, achieving outstanding rate capability.

Prussian Blue Analogs for Rechargeable Batteries.

iScience

May 2018

State Key Laboratory of Silicon Materials, Key Laboratory of Novel Materials for Information Technology of Zhejiang Province and School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310027, China. Electronic address:

Non-lithium energy storage devices, especially sodium ion batteries, are drawing attention due to insufficient and uneven distribution of lithium resources. Prussian blue and its analogs (Prussian blue analogs [PBAs]), or hexacyanoferrates, are well-known since the 18th century and have been used for hydrogen storage, cancer therapy, biosensing, seawater desalination, and sewage treatment. Owing to their unique features, PBAs are receiving increasing interest in the field of energy storage, such as their high theoretical specific capacity, ease of synthesis, as well as low cost.
