Purpose: This study aimed to analyze organ system-based causes and non-organ system-based mechanisms of death (COD, MOD) in people with myelomeningocele (MMC), comparing urological to other COD.
Methods: A retrospective review was performed of 16 institutions in Canada/United States of non-random convenience sample of people with MMC (born > = 1972) using non-parametric statistics.
Results: Of 293 deaths (89% shunted hydrocephalus), 12% occurred in infancy, 35% in childhood, and 53% in adulthood (documented COD: 74%).

Background: Nephron-sparing approaches are preferred for renal mass in a solitary kidney (RMSK), with partial nephrectomy (PN) generally prioritized. Thermal ablation (TA) also is an option for small renal masses in this setting; however, comparative functional/survival outcomes are not well-defined.
Methods: A retrospective study of 504 patients (1975-2022) with cT1 RMSK managed with PN (n = 409)/TA (n = 95) with necessary data for analysis was performed.

Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment is challenging in surgically complex patients. Radical prostatectomy can be performed without peritoneal entry using novel single-port (SP) transperineal (TP) and transvesical (TV) approaches. We sought to examine the outcomes of radical prostatectomy using novel TP and TV approaches in patients with extensive prior abdominal surgeries.

Angiotensin II (ANG II) increases proximal tubule superoxide (O) production more in rats fed a 20% fructose normal-salt diet compared with rats fed a 20% glucose normal-salt diet. A 20% fructose high-salt diet (FHS) increases systolic blood pressure (SBP), whereas a 20% glucose high-salt diet (GHS) does not. However, it is unclear whether FHS enhances ANG II-induced oxidative stress in proximal tubules and whether this contributes to increases in blood pressure in this model.

Background: Surgical management of large prostatic adenomas can be performed via open, endoscopic, or robotic approaches. A low-profile single-port (SP) robot was built to work in confined areas (ie, the bladder) and regionalize surgery.
Objective: To describe the novel SP transvesical (TV) robot-assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP) and report clinical outcomes.

Aims: Lower urinary tract dysfunctions (LUTD) are very common and, importantly, affect patients' quality of life (QoL). LUTD can range from urinary retention to urgency incontinence and includes a variety of symptoms. Nerve stimulation (NS) is an accepted widespread treatment with documented success for LUTD and is used widely.

Interventions for benign prostatic hyperplasia have evolved from transurethral resection of the prostate and simple prostatectomy to a myriad of office-based and operating-room procedures. The contemporary approach involves matching the right procedure to the right patient, choosing on the basis of prostate characteristics, patient preference, and urologist expertise. This review details currently available and guideline-backed surgical and procedural treatments.

Objective: To describe the surgical technique and report the early outcomes of the transvesical (TV) approach to single-port (SP) robot-assisted radical prostatectomy.
Methods: All procedures were performed at a single center by one surgeon. We identified the first 100 consecutive patients with clinically localized prostate cancer that underwent SP TV robot-assisted radical prostatectomy using the da Vinci SP robotic surgical system.

Introduction: Variant histology (VH) bladder cancer is often associated with poor outcomes and the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) remains incompletely defined. Our objective was to determine comparative pathologic downstaging at radical cystectomy (RC) following NAC for patients with and without VH.
Patients And Methods: Patients who underwent RC at 2 tertiary referral centers (1996-2018) were included.

Background: Partial nephrectomy (PN) is generally preferred for localized renal masses due to strong functional outcomes. Accurate prediction of new baseline glomerular filtration rate (NBGFR) after PN may facilitate preoperative counseling because NBGFR may affect long-term survival, particularly for patients with preoperative chronic kidney disease. Methods for predicting parenchymal volume preservation, and by extension NBGFR, have been proposed, including those based on contact surface area (CSA) or direct measurement of tissue likely to be excised/devascularized during PN.

Iron deficiency (ID) is the most prevalent nutritional deficiency worldwide. Low levels of serum ferritin (SF) could affect the thyroid gland and its functioning. The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to summarize the main currently available evidence and analyze data on the relationship between ID and thyroid function.

Background: Evidence is inconsistent regarding the impact of late gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on perinatal outcomes.
Objectives: To evaluate associations of GDM diagnosed in the third trimester (late GDM) with adverse obstetric and neonatal outcomes.

Context: The complications of synthetic midurethral slings (MUSs) in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI) have become a globally debated issue.
Objective: To systematically review the short- and long-term complications of mesh slings reported in observational data compared with clinical trial data, to determine whether the complication rates from clinical trials reflects "real-world" observational data.
Evidence Acquisition: PubMed and Cochrane Library were searched.

Objective: To evaluate the perioperative complications of single-port robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (SP-RARP).
Patients And Methods: A retrospective review was performed on the prospectively maintained, Institutional Review Board-approved, multi-institutional Single-Port Advanced Research Consortium (SPARC) database. A total of 1103 patients were identified who underwent three different approaches of SP-RARP between 2019 and 2022 using the purpose-built SP robotic platform.

Background: National Institutes of Health (NIH) category II prostatitis refractory to antibiotic therapy can be challenging to treat. We present the outcomes from a case series of men who have undergone various surgical therapies to treat this condition. Additionally, we performed a scoping review of studies describing the characteristics and outcomes of patients surgically treated for chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP).

Half of all men with advanced prostate cancer (PCa) inherit at least 1 copy of an adrenal-permissive HSD3B1 (1245C) allele, which increases levels of 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (3βHSD1) and promotes intracellular androgen biosynthesis. Germline inheritance of the adrenally permissive allele confers worse outcomes in men with advanced PCa. We investigated whether HSD3B1 (1245C) drives resistance to combined androgen deprivation and radiotherapy.

Introduction: New estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equations using serum creatinine and/or cystatin C have been derived to eliminate adjustment by perceived Black ancestry. We sought to analyze the performance of newer eGFR equations among Black living kidney donor candidates.
Methods: Black candidates (n = 64) who had measured iothalamate GFR between January 2015 and October 2021 were included, and eGFR was calculated using race adjusted (eGFRcr2009 and eGFRcr-cys2012) and race unadjusted (eGFRcys2012, eGFRcr2021, and eGFRcr-cys2021) CKD-EPI equations.

Introduction: The long interspersed nuclear element-1 (LINE1) gene is a retrotransposon whose methylation status appears to play a role in spermatogenesis, the outcome of assisted reproductive techniques (ART), and even in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). Advanced paternal age appears associated with altered sperm parameters, RPL, poor ART outcomes, and compromised offspring health. The methylation status of LINE1 has been reported to be affected by age.
