Article Synopsis
  • Salinity negatively impacts plant growth and crucial processes like photosynthesis, making it difficult to enhance crop tolerance to abiotic stress due to a trade-off where resistance often reduces growth.
  • The study discovered the plastocyanin gene (PaPC) from the Antarctic moss Polytrichastrum alpinum, which boosted photosynthesis and salt tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana without harming growth.
  • PaPC showed superior effects in enhancing yield potential and photosynthetic efficiency in both Arabidopsis and rice under stress, demonstrating its value as a genetic resource for developing resilient crops.

In this work, sodium cobalt phosphate (NaCoPO) was successfully prepared by a cost-effective ionothermal method using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) for the first time. The synthesized NaCoPO was used to fabricate a cathode material for aqueous rechargeable sodium-ion batteries. The surface morphology of the prepared materials and its compositional analysis were done by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, respectively.

Flurbiprofen, a primary component of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve symptoms of arthritis, and is a considerable interest in medicinal chemistry due to its demonstrated potential as an effective agent in various therapeutic applications. In consideration of the 1,3,4-oxadiazole therapeutic potential and anticancer activity, a new series of flurbiprofen scaffolds have been prepared through a straightforward reaction between 5-(1-(2-fluoro-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)ethyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol (4) and various organic active 2-chloro-N-phenyl acetamides (5). The synthesized series (6a-6k) was characterized using a combination of spectroscopic techniques, including FT-IR, mass, H-NMR, and C NMR, followed by physical data.

Multi-resonance thermally-activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) is predominantly observed in organoboron heteroatom-embedded molecules, featuring enhanced performance in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with high color purity, chemical stability, and excellent photoluminescence quantum yields. However, predicting the impact of any chemical change remains a challenge. Computational methods including density functional theory (DFT) still require accurate descriptions of photophysical properties of MR-TADF emitters.

Article Synopsis
  • - The insulin superfamily proteins (ISPs) evolved from a common ancestor, leading to insulin, IGFs, and relaxin, which have different functions but similar structures due to conserved disulphide bridges.
  • - A comprehensive analysis of 427 sequences reveals that IGFs show over 90% sequence conservation, suggesting their interactions with multiple partners limit sequence diversity.
  • - The study also updates the receptor-binding motifs for relaxin, identifies a possible non-canonical C-peptide cleavage site in some insulin sequences, and proposes insulin mutants for therapeutic use based on structural modifications seen in related proteins.

July 2024

Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Institution for Functional Materials, Pusan National University, Busan 46241, Republic of Korea.

This study presents an effective route to access functionalizable fluorinated enamides characterized by their high regiospecificity around the allenamide. Synthetic applications of the resulting difluorocarbonyl-bearing enamide products were pursued through straightforward synthetic transformations to prepare unknown functionalized valuable halogenated O-heterocycles and C5 skeletons. Experimental mechanistic studies showed that hydrodifluoroalkylation occurs via a hidden Brønsted acid activation, thereby establishing a new electrophilic activation mode for allenamide through a conjugated iminium intermediate.
