Anatomic vs. Ischemia-Driven Strategies for Percutaneous Coronary Revascularization in Chronic Coronary Syndrome: A Network Meta-Analysis.

Catheter Cardiovasc Interv

January 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medical Science, AOU Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, Turin, Italy.

Introduction: In patients with chronic coronary syndromes (CCS), the benefit of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) added to optimal medical therapy (OMT) remains unclear. The indication to PCI may be driven either by angiographic evaluation or ischemia assessment, thus depicting different potential strategies which have not yet been thoroughly compared.

Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing OMT versus PCI angio-guided or versus PCI non-invasive or invasive ischemia guided were identified and compared via network meta-analysis.

Reel's syndrome (RS) is an unusual cause of pacemaker lead dislodgement. We present the case of a 59-year-old female patient with Down syndrome (DS) implanted with a dual-chamber endovascular pacemaker due to symptomatic sinus node disfunction, reporting several syncopal episodes in last days and showing abnormal electrical parameters at the 2-months follow-up due to RS. The malfunctioning device was removed and an endocardial leadless pacing system was implanted.

The field of voice analysis has experienced significant transformations, evolving from basic perceptual assessments to the incorporation of advanced digital signal processing and computational tools. This progression has facilitated a deeper understanding of the complex dynamics of vocal function, particularly through the use of acoustic voice analysis within a multidimensional evaluation framework. Traditionally, voice analysis relied on parameters such as fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, and noise-to-harmonic ratio, which, despite their utility, have faced criticism for variability and lack of robustness.

Reclassification of CTO Crossing Strategies in the ERCTO Registry According to the CTO-ARC Consensus Recommendations.

JACC Cardiovasc Interv

October 2024

Department of Health Promotion, Mother and Child Care, Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties, University of Palermo, Italy. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The CTO-ARC identified the need for standardized definitions in chronic total occlusion (CTO) procedures to avoid bias in attributing complications to different crossing strategies.
  • A study analyzed data from 8,673 patients in the European Registry of Chronic Total Occlusions, finding that the antegrade approach was used in 79.2% of cases, while retrograde was used in 20.8%.
  • Results showed that alternative antegrade crossing had lower technical success rates and higher complication rates compared to true antegrade and retrograde methods, though it was primarily used as a rescue strategy in most instances.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers believe that lung ultrasound scores (LUS) can better predict cardiac risks in elderly patients undergoing hip fracture surgery, compared to existing methods like the Revised Cardiac Risk Index and ASA Physical Status.
  • The study involved 877 patients across 11 Italian hospitals, finding a significant correlation between higher LUS scores and complications, with a notable incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).
  • Results showed that a preoperative LUS score of 8 or higher was more effective at predicting MACE than traditional scoring methods, indicating its potential as a valuable tool for risk assessment in this patient population.
